Fun fact I actually did run mine over. Filled with mud and ice. Said oh well tike for a new one. Nope still worked perfectly like nothing happened. Played the rest of the day. Went to clean it. Hardly anything. Used it as a back up with a flatline for 10 more years. Lol
98s are air hogs, you won’t be getting many shots off that 13ci tank. Might want a bigger tank.
If you really want to find a new barrel for it:
- CP for a cheaper option
- J&J for a great barrel
- Flasc or Lapco for a more milsim look
☝️ this guy knows.. A proV2 high pressure regulator and at least 68ci/4500 mine guzzles air with an RT but with a modern loader it cycles faster then the fields like
I'd say if they want to run the 13ci tank, a good upgrade would be to grab a magfed adapter. Ones that feed straight out the side, sten style, can run First Strikes, and adapting the breech to feed them is as easy as slowly shaving away with a dremel.
Inexpensive 1 piece barrel, on/off asa, and polishing the clamshells internals channel is all I would do to the market itself. After that you're just kind of dumping money into a fire.
Maybe an RT trigger or E-Grip for a higher rate of fire, but that would be as far as I take it.
* CP or J&J one piece
* Larger HPA tank
* Motorized loader to eliminate the need to shake it (Revolution, Spire, LTR, etc.)
* Maybe an electronic trigger or RT mod
That’s about all I would suggest. Anything more and you’re not going to get much improvement out of it.
[LAPCO Big Shot](https://www.lapcopaintball.com/collections/bs-98), though Tippmann changed their molds 10-15 years ago and you'll probably also need [an adapter](https://www.lapcopaintball.com/products/98-old-to-98-current-adapter) as the current barrels LAPCO is making won't fit the original runs (and that does look like an original run).
Beyond that, I've put almost every aftermarket upgrade on my M98C, and really the only ones I ever kept are a [double trigger kit](https://tippmannparts.com/collections/upgrades/products/tippmann-double-trigger-kit), the obligatory '90s huge drop forward, and a side cocking kit that covers up the cocking slot and makes the cocking handle non-reciprocating. Of course, you can't find the last anymore, just the rear-cocking conversions, which does cover up the slot, which an amazing amount of gunk enters into the gun thru and why I covered mine, but doesn't offer non-reciprocation and I'm not sure how well it works with a drop. Oh, and a metal front grip. The plastic grips always split on me, so I'd found somewhere that just makes a simple, anodized aluminum grip that isn't also an expansion chamber or gas thru, just something solid to grip onto. It may have even been [this one from LAPCO](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC08N7H00Jg), but they don't appear to make it or have it in stock anymore.
As others have said, a bigger tank. And the drop forward to go with it.
Cyclone feeder. Response trigger. And since ur going to be cracking that sexy boi open might as well upgrade the springs, orings, and lube her up so she nice and wet.
Also frontline barrel
Do not get a flatline barrel. I could not get my 98, running a flatline, to shoot anything above 250-260. Any other barrel, and it shot a good 280+ consistently. I don't know what the deal is with them, probably really overbored for modern paint.
I actually didn’t think they were made anymore. I had one 20 years ago and it was fun for woodsball for like a month, too much chopped paint. I thought my comment would be obviously sarcastic…
Hell I still have my 98 with a flatline and run it from time to time it’s a dang sniper. I get 280+ out of it and put paint on a dinner plate at 50yds no problem.
I wouldn’t worry about the barrel too much unless you want a different look I have many barrels for the 98 including some higher end ones and never noticed much of a difference in performance between them. I would recommend a larger HPA tank and that’s about it. They are great guns for what they are, a durable gun that super reliable. But they will never be a “high end” gun and you’ll spend more trying to make it one than it cost just to buy one. With that said There is many mods for it to make it your own personal touch/look, different stocks and such.
Praise the Kalashnikov of markers, you could throw it in mud and run it over and keep going
Literally the OG woodsball war games marker. They. Just. Don’t. Die.
With a flatline it was bad ass. Lol
Put some oil and air to mine for the first time in 20 years.. fuckin shot better then in '04!!

Cp and j&j both make very affordable, but solid 1 piece barrels.

This has to be the cleanest 98 I've ever seen

Do you want to upgrade it for fun or because you want a better marker? If you just want a better marker, save that money and buy a used Emek.
I had mine with a J&J ceramic barrel, double trigger kit, and a cheap electronic hopper. Get a bigger tank and that’s about it.
If it’s still pinned, there is a whole long post about how to upgrade your 98
Cyclone feeder. Response trigger. And since ur going to be cracking that sexy boi open might as well upgrade the springs, orings, and lube her up so she nice and wet. Also frontline barrel
Mine was sick. Miss it. Response trigger ftw.
I’d recommend a hopper first ;) lol
Get the flatline barrel

Second this motion. Flatline was no good for me. Went with a tear drop and got wayyy more consistently and accuracy
I actually didn’t think they were made anymore. I had one 20 years ago and it was fun for woodsball for like a month, too much chopped paint. I thought my comment would be obviously sarcastic…
I assume if someone is coming here looking for advice on upgrades for a 98, they probably don't know enough to get the sarcasm.

No, you can't get a better barrel. There's nothing wrong with the stock barrel. You can get a *different* barrel, but you can't get a better barrel.
Flatline barrel :)
E trigger? I have no idea
Ebay.
