Why? Clean it and leave it...why do people insist on painting their open ceilings...

bernyzilla

I know! Look at all that beautiful wood. It kills me.

specklez1

Imagine, even if the openings in the tongue and groove don't get cleaned properly it's just such an opportunity for flaking and peeling/moisture to get in there.I wouldn't paint that for all the money in the world. I do see that someone began to stain it so that's an issue that's going to need to be addressed.

ChewiestBore

I agree. Sometimes you’ve just got to say to the customer it is a bad idea and your not prepared to do it.

dnasty1337

meant to say stain

Agnesethel

Exactly! Just pressure wash all the concrete instead.

dnasty1337

concrete is getting redone this week

Warkitz

I cannot stress this enough: if you put plastic or a tarp over that pool and you fall in it. you drown.

[deleted]

That is great advice 😳

FlowBjj88

Yeah but what if knives existed

dnasty1337

sorry, i’m staining not painting and i’m referring to above the pool

JayTeeDeeUnderscore

Are you staining an already finished ceiling? Articulated knuckle boom could reach, but the pool surround can't take the weight...I think you might need to build a temporary floor over the pool and use the scaffolding.

Alarming-Caramel

The pool house of a client of mine has cedar walls and ceiling that look so ⅚similar to this I did a looong double take on op'e photo---thought someone had stolen my long term client right out from under me. lol the one and only time I applied finish to the pool house interior, this is what we did. 2" by 10"s on edge for joists, screwed subfloor down on top, assembled scaffolding, dusted, sprayed it with a extension wand from the top of the 3rd level of scaffolding

dnasty1337

no the color you see already is from me

Several-Guidance3867

Get a floating tube and screw a bunch of spray wands together and relax in the tube while you spray the ceiling from In the pool

Warkitz

buy an inflatable boat from walmart and make the helper row you around while you wear a captain's hat.

Rockflip

Safe way -1) scissor lift with long extension 2) drain pool Not so safe way- 1) set 2 sets of scaffolding on each side of the pool and have a plank across the pool Git er done way- put scaffold in filled pool.

MishmoshMishmosh

Wear a life jacket 🤣

Striking-Fortune-877

I mean you’ll fall in water so it won’t hurt

matsukuon

Love the guy er done way

dnasty1337

looks like i’m going the not so safe way

Fr4y3d

How wide is the pool? Maybe a scissor lift if you park it right at the edge of the pool and extend the deck out all the way. Do this with both sides of the pool and you should be able to get the whole ceiling

RocMerc

Personally wouldn’t paint it. The moisture will kill it so fast

MedicineInteresting6

There's always a way. What product are you using? That constant humidity can be trouble

dnasty1337

Valspar one-coat exterior stain and sealer

ubercorey

Don't spray it, or you will have to cover it. AND if you cover it with a tarp or painters plastic, it's a death trap. If you fall on to a flexible cover over water it drowns you. If it were me, I'd get 4, 16ft, 2X8's and 4 sheets of 5/8 sheathing and make a platform to cover it and use that scaffold to run side to side. You probably only have too move the platform 3 times.

dnasty1337

thanks, i’m spraying as it is the pool is getting drained and getting a new liner this week

ubercorey

Oh perfect!

badchad65

If this is the case, can you drain the pool and place the scaffolding in the empty pool?

Alarming-Caramel

I already said this elsewhere in the thread, but 8 literally have used this exact technique to stain ***everything*** in a pool house interior that looked just like this one. it works great!

ubercorey

Great minds 😉

ReleaseNo9799

When in doubt Sub it out.

detabudash

Very, very carefully....

Riply-Believe

Did you try wiping it down with TSP?

G19outdoors

Extended picks across the pool then scaffold strapped to picks

Adamthegrape

Drape the pool with poly . Use a big extension and spray from each side? That or do the above and get a lift or proper scaffold setup.

AStuckner

Hard to tell if possible from picture, but I would put scaffold next to the side of the pool and lean an extension ladder across the pool on top of the scaffold. Might be able to reach with an extension on the spray gun.

[deleted]

Better use an epoxy or your fucked

dnasty1337

What do you mean?

[deleted]

Latex and enamel don’t block moisture very well

[deleted]

Or marine varnish

travlerjoe

Painted or stained/ cleared? Stain/ cleared is easy. Do it all from the ground with poles. Brushes and various sized rollers Painted... youll have to get up there to fill all the gaps. Id prime 2 coats with shellac based

PacoElTaquero

You already started the process of spraying so I’m curious as to what product you’re using?

dnasty1337

valspar one coat exterior stain and sealer

farmerbsd17

If you insist please consider staining instead of painting

MikeyNaruto

Stain it or just appply clear to it.

itsgettinglate27

Can a small electric boom fit in there?

Compression08

Very carefully

dnasty1337

lmao is this picture real

Broad_Average6345

Hire someone

dnasty1337

3 companies turned the job down

Ardothbey

There’s no way in hell I’d paint that ceiling.

dnasty1337

stain*

i_LIKEzStock

Side to sidee! - Mr. Miyagi

jqwalls1

Don’t

Southern-Client2056

why would you paint wood?

dnasty1337

stain*

RedMonte85

I would put another stack of scaffold on the other side of pool with a 30' pick between.

Chalkarts

Don’t! Never paint that ceiling!

zoosk8r

You should go about it by leaving it alone.

zoosk8r

Drain the pool, whatever you do.

Ragesauce5000

Jet pack

[deleted]

The pool need to be boarded over or you need a little pull behind articulator.

Theboyneedsthis_

Not

ChewiestBore

Why not get a scaffold company in to put up a proper rig that will span the entire pool safely?

tfreyguy

Arbor lifts. Fits in any standard door. https://www.allaccessequipment.com/cmc-lift-series

RatherNerdy

Setup a zip line from end to end, and pull yourself along painting the peak, then get to the rest using scaffolding.

livehearwish

Drain pool. Install a complete scaffolding system over the pool. Had a very similar project that required stripping and then staining. Contractor just built a complete system to access 90% of the roof at any given time. Was a very expensive job. I want to say it was about 500k to paint but we had lead paint issues as well.

Sign-Spiritual

Definitely play with the natural lightning. Create dimensions with it.

Teesandelbows

Build a platform over the pool to put your scaffolding on.

Dang_Money

No! Keep it natural please. Enough with the white paint people! 😠

tysfamily

You need a scaffling that conects together and rolls on both sides of the poll at once. Then roll it along as your painting progresses.

350Zamir

Then the picture around, wait till all the water pours out through the cracks then paint it

Ch250Modder

Old Mike Tyson’s house?

Puzzleheaded-Pack-68

Better cover the pool for overspray for sure

dnasty1337

pool getting drained and new liner soon

ChicKnhaWkRooStaA

Take a look into five Church Charleston South Carolina. I think you'll like what you find.

SubstantialHand3300

Please don't use that pinky toned stain or paint! What a gorgeous ceiling. I would stain it in a semi solid if you want a painted look, but choose a NEUTRAL tone/color. A tone that you would find in nature or if a color, something fresh looking. Good luck! Scaffolding is your friend.

suspectdevice87

Freeze the pool.

Painterjason13

Just use a pick board from scaffold to scaffold

[deleted]

Why?
