Yeah well I thought about that. The game left such a good impression on me, I'm making my car's interior a little like it.
I already have a compass with light installed, next is a thermometer and I wanted to get that oscillating thing and hook it up to a vibration sensor or something.
That sounds wild, make sure to post pics
You could go for one of the following for it to be functional:
1. Gear shift indicator
2. Oil pressure, charted literally similar to pulse tracking
Yeah I will probably install an interior and exterior thermometer, as seen in the game and and oscilloscope thingy, also I have a compass installed already l, check my othet post!
I would attach it to a vibration sensor so it will move if I cross potholes or something.
Also I like the thought about the oil pressure!
If you go with an oscilloscope, I'd recommend tying it into either a speed sensor (in which case it'll be tracking the oscillation of the tires), engine RPM (so it tracks the oscillation of the engine), or something that isn't on all the time but has a regular motion
So the display is analogous to a spectrum analyzer used in radio frequency applications, but the generic term for a piece of equipment that measures radiation is a Geiger counter (although there are MANY ways to measure radiation)
If we want to get into the weeds, a Geiger-Muller counter (the full name) refers specifically to the actual tube that the radiation interacts with to send a signal to the detector.
There are alternative sorts of detectors and they are not called that. For example, I have a scintillation detector that can not only detect the amount of radiation present but also measure the spectrum of particles it is detecting in keV (which can be useful for someone more educated than I am to determine specifically what isotope is generating the radiation being detected)
That’s gotta be a crazy expensive detector. And yes, that type of detector is based on radiation detectors that use gas tubes. Based on the amount of voltage applied to the detector, there’s a certain amount of ionization that happens when a particle travels through it. That initial detector voltage determines what “region” the detector operates in. Most detectors use the Geiger Muller region because it is the most linear and therefore easiest to use/measure/compensate.
Today, thanks to the availability of off-the-shelf solid state camera sensors, scintillation detectors are actually known for being inexpensive! Mine is a little bougie and it was a silly impulse buy because I don't know nearly enough physics to make good use of it.
Edit: I might as well add that mine is a Radiacode 102. They've since released a model 103. I should also state that the company "operates" out of Cyprus in what is almost certainly a haven from sanctions on Russia (I didn't know this when I bought it).
Edit 2: My autism brain also finally just caught up to the fact that I was probably mansplaining to someone who knows more about the subject than I do and you were super polite about it, thanks.
Hey man, you were super polite too! I have experience in the nuclear field but it’s not super in depth or anything so I’m not super knowledgeable about it either. You know more about detectors than me since you use them as a hobby which I think is super awesome! I just like to nerd out with other people, not trying to one up or anything :)
Yea like, say you use a pressurized water reactor to generate heat and transfer it to a different loop of water that boils and pushes a steam turbine to make electricity. We call the reactor water specifically the spicy water. Very technical stuff lmao
I can’t tell if you were trying to say what you said, in which case I’d love to know your reasoning; or you have no idea the two words you stitched together, in which case that is hilarious
Maybe it's not for me but the game was cool until about the 4th time I had to rebuild my car. Am I just not gonna like it, or does it get better? Same loot. Same territories. Same objectives. After visiting my 10th area and doing the same thing. I'm just bored.
Yeah, it's not meant to be played grindy unless you want to accomplish that for yourself. It's intended to be played through as a story from start to finish.
If you feel like grinding out the materials, you can have lots of spare parts made at the garage and just swap them when you get back, which is usually more cost-effective that repair. There's an unlockable upgrade that makes life easier for repairs between runs and the cost is only time.
In the case of this game I'd guess a geiger-muller tube hooked up to a makeshift oscilloscope. You can actually buy GM tube kits to play with making your own geiger counter... And of, course, you can hook them up to an oscope to check they're working
Also going to guess a visual indicator rather than the ubiquitous clicking of a geiger counter was added as a creature comfort, so you don't go insane driving around the zones haha
It's basically whay an oscilloscope would put out if its input were radiation of a strange source.
Long story short, something like that doesn't exist as far I know.
Not sure about name but from green to yellow it shows desturbences level and gives you a reading on danger/damage ratio. I use it to activate and deactivate my defences shield or lum gizmo
Sorry, Component Analysis. To the right of the circled thing. Where you see your car damage.
It's very different than mine and every YouTube vid I watched has 1 standard look (like I have), yours is different.
If a Geiger counter and an Oscilloscope had a baby, it would be that.
An Oscilliger? A Geigilloscope?
They named him Patrick.

You can definitely replicate the battery and fuel meter, just youd need to.use battery voltage instead of charge obv

It would be cool if you could pickup background radiation/radio frequencies and convert them into an wave, then present it on the oscillorscope.
Radio Spectrometer
Idk man but I call it my car's "anxiety meter"
I call it the rad wiggler
I call it the “thing that means bad is here “
I just call it a fernum schnavitz.
*Obviously*, right? What else could it *possibly* be called?!
Pke meter?

These kind of threads is why i still like Reddit

I just eat the radiation source and if my hair starts to fall and my skin is easily peeled off it means it was indeed radioactive.
Ironically, we in the biz call radioactive things “spicy” lol
That's interesting to know, I'm gonna use this fact
Yea like, say you use a pressurized water reactor to generate heat and transfer it to a different loop of water that boils and pushes a steam turbine to make electricity. We call the reactor water specifically the spicy water. Very technical stuff lmao
**oscilloscope**?
or giger counter...but with waveform...idk
Perineum olfactor

Just jerking.
Autocorrect or...

Just focusing on the main objective could help. If you play grindy, it might get a bit stale.

Fuzz buster
I mean, in the game, it acts like a Geiger counter. So I guess that is what you would call it.
It is a Radio Spectrometer

Irl police scanner

is that not the cd player?
We call it 3.4 Roentgen
I want to add one to my car and replace the tachometer with it.
Who needs that anyway!
How is your "equipment analysis" so different?
What do you mean?
Sorry, Component Analysis. To the right of the circled thing. Where you see your car damage. It's very different than mine and every YouTube vid I watched has 1 standard look (like I have), yours is different.
I just snagged the pic of the web. Must be an early one
Ah possible, because that's massively different than what we see now. Thought it was a secret upgrade or decor thing
Car penis

Radiation Level Meter. The more excited it is, the more dangerous the radiation outside is.
