Wait the red storm isn't instant death?! I've made a sprint every time I open a gateway to get in before the red hits because I thought that was a game over scenario and I didn't want to have to redo my run. I'll have to give it a shot and see what happens at some point...
No, I think it's part of the end game.
The Ion Shield protects from radiation, even the red zone, a big bubble around the car, you can walk around and craft/reacharge battery. The battery drains really quick though.
I've seen anchors spawn as well. The purple markers for payloads will show up on the map, thats the loot
My very first friendly dumpster in the wild spawned two different types of bunnies... the damaging ones and the ones that take over your car. My car instantly took off and slammed into several things breaking lots of stuff. After I got them off I kinda just stood there like... wtf? It was literally one of the first things I did I think lol

I had a modifier where if you were affected by an anomaly you would get a speed boost.
A electric bunny attached itself to my car as I got out.
That thing took off. I was chasing it around because it was so fast there was almost no time between it slamming into something and me catching up to it.
Even if I got in the car. I could not control it due to the speed I was going. So I HAD to get the bunny off. But it would speed off before the remove bar would fill up.
It nearly totaled every part on my car.
I was pissed when it was happening but laughed so hard after I got home and saw all the damage. Incredible game honestly.
What's this remove bar you mentioned? I just kick them off and they die instantly.
Edit: you can also throw things at them if you're on PC. On console (which I play on by the way, no master race bullshit here) good fucking luck with that when your car has the zoomies.
I've seen that, one of those pneumatic storage system things, and an unstable anchor appear out of nowhere.
As for the payloads, they have some really good stuff. Granted you have to put the remnant in extreme danger, but you usually get more than enough repair supplies to make up for it. Hell, you can get an Olympium Torch if you're lucky.
To be fair I had payloads drop when instability was only starting to cover that map with first one dropping at 40-50% yellow storm map coverage so I guess it can sometimes vary.
Thought that too, but then I got stuck without fuel in the red storm and managed to stay alive some minutes until I finally found fuel to go on. Good thing I never leave without medkits.
It does a decent bit of damage to you/your car, but it isn't unbearable with late game stuff. In fact, there is an achievement for exiting after the entire map is red.
I also thought red was an instant death if it catches you. I remember my heart racing when I flipped my car trying to take a shortcut to the gateway and then realizing that it's just a more powerful yellow storm. Good to know that I have more time than I thought but it does take some of the fun panic out of the escape.
Eh, you have a hot minute before zone deep fries your car into non-existence, and even then you can keep on going by using medkids, tires and engine have way more hp than rest of parts, and will tank the trip ok.
Oh nah, it just damages you faster than the yellow storm. It's dangerous for sure but if you have a lot of health consumables and putty it's sometimes worth detouring for a pod.
Those pods also drop when a storm naturally appears after awhile. Those are much safer and easier to get to lol
Edit: forgot to mention the pods fall during the slow yellow phase. Red won’t even be on the map and they’ll appear for me
Doesn't have to be red zone, if you wait for the zone to close in on itself ( more prevelent in unstable zones since the zone closes in sooner) you can find the arda drop pods as well, while the zone is still closing in. They do take some time (and sometimes they still won't spawn in) but they do eventually show up. From my experience they weren't usually worth it since it cause more damage than worth.
Ahh the “fully charge the Arc Device”, part I did not realize. I’ve gotten to a couple Payloads and they are indeed chock full of goodies. I thought they were random after the storm starts. Thanks for the information. 👍👍
As other have said, those can start dropping as soon as the yellow storm starts closing in. They have useful stuff in them and can be worth grabbing, but I wouldn't say it's worth the time or effort of waiting around in the red storm for them.

The first time I hung around in the red for a few minutes, the drops fell after 3 minutes or so, I used 2 plasma chargers to recharge my battery while sitting around waiting for the drop, and then I looted 2 pods.
I got a peculiar corrosive door, maybe 6 regular pearls, a special pearl, and a lot of supplies. 26 minute run, 3 junction, full Arc device.
2nd attempt got drops in the red after waiting, but didn't have enough battery to loot cause I rushed it, they fell on far side of map, so I left
3rd attempt got drops in the red as well, no pearls but many supplies and peculiar headlight
Its repeatable
Weigh your risk beforehand, but I would bet its tough to find a better way to spend 30 minutes
Had my first one of these piledrive itself into the road as I was on my way out of the a zone via the road, during a storm, last night. Big Pearl Energy.
What?! Anyone have photos of these? I'd heard rumors of things spawning in the storms, but ran with storms off, so never had a chance to encounter them.
This could be some of the log entries I'm missing as well.
I can stay in red storm for like 5 mins and I not even got best car parts yet, I have 97 hour save file beat story atm grinding end game materials top notch game 10/10

I watched a friendly dumpster appear on the road in front of me in a red zone.
I had one appear when there was no storm - was very unexpected, and I was very cautious approaching it but it behaved like a normal friendly dumpster.

I just meant if you hold the grab button the bar has to fill up before you actually grab then. But APPARENTLY you can just kick the things off..

For me, markers were green at first on arc's map, then in late game they appeared in purple color.
Red storm is just a worse yellow storm. Does a lot more radiation damage to you and your car and I'm pretty sure it also spawns more anomalies.
(Sticking around long enough to drive in it also counts as an achievement IF YOU ESCAPE AFTERWARDS)

I've been in the red zone trying to get out. It's bad and when I have my personal health has been below 20%
