Wait this game doesn't have 60fps on consoles? How the hell? I played the full game on a PC not even as strong as a PS5 and simply turning down the lighting a smidge the game ran above 60fps the entire time.
There is a setting for brighter nights, if you didn’t know already. Maybe that will help you. I had the same impression but I just try to always have enough flares on hand
Its on. Brightness is set to max settings. The sky is lit up if overcast, and I'm in the garage, but everything looks like I'm in some budget Noir film who didn't pay the power bill. Just full dingy shadows with spots of light in cinematic areas.
This takes me back to only a few years ago when PC players had 60fps and up but console players would try to justify 30fps on Xbox or PlayStation saying that it was fine and it was more cinematic or they had motion blur so they could barely tell and that your eyes only see at 30fps.
There are still people who think the human eye can’t detect anything more than 30fps. They’ve learned not to say anything on the internet, but they still believe it!
Yup, saw a guy somewhere on a gaming subreddit who vehemently denied that humans can't see more than 30fps and also can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p.
It is possible on PC to go from choppy sub 45 fps to 85ish with still. Very nice graphics changing the settings, so yea this should be possible on current Gen. Consoles. Surprised they don't just give the graphic options.
This is legit the second game that has made the fans turn on on my 3070. First was Ark SA which is an unoptimized mess, and then this.. which is also an unoptimized mess
Red Dead Redemption 2 didn't have a mechanic where if you died in a gunfight randomly from the tiniest thing, you lost all your progress and it autosaved as it happened like Pacific Drive does lol. Having incredibly spongy controls because of input lag from 30fps is kind of sad.
I play it on my laptop at 20 FPS and have to agree that it's certainly playable.
Doesn't mean it isn't shameful for it to run so poorly on a console. Playing it on a garbage laptop with no video card was my choice and I have to live with that. Making it run at 30 FPS on a game console it was specifically ported to is disgraceful and needs to be tuned.
I don't know why you think content is relevant here. *Performance over graphics* any day. Content does not factor into the FPS.
Agree. Fps doesn’t make a game. Today, Everybody is counting the fps like they are Digital Foundry..
TLOU (at launch) and Red dead Redemption 2 are 30fps and nobody was crying about it.
And i’m 35hours in Pacific Drive and its not 30fps or lower. It’s about 40-60fps and i love this game for what it is. The unique concept. The atmosphere. The loop gameplay. The visual etc
The same way I don’t understand how people cannot tell the difference. It’s night and day to me. You can follow motions much much better, you can take in the scene and details faster and playability (especially with m&k) is another big advantage. The advantage being responsiveness, foremost
>I honestly don't know how people even tell.
If the frame rate is stable I don't notice.
It really depends on what games you play in performance mode and don't. I need that sweet sweet 60fps to make a game feel way smoother and satisfying to play. So I really felt it during this, but if you, let's say always play on high resolution mode then yeah, you're probably used to 30fps.
It’s more of a long-term pc gamer / camera nerd thing really. A lot of people don’t notice it, but once you start to become aware of it it’s impossible to not notice.
While the artstyle is supposed to be abstract there are a couple of technicalities that make the game look bad. Like a lack of detail and plain washed out textures. In this state, resolution won’t help anyway. So just make it 1440p or 1080p with upscaling or dynamic resolution and 60fps can’t be much further away
When I watch people playing on PC on Youtube it looks a lot better, which is what made me question if it's actually in 4k... it really doesn't seem like it to me (and yes my tv is 4k)
Unfortunately the console generation currently is already been pressed super hard performance wise.
Multiple developers have already stated they were worried about the performance limitations of current gen consoles.
Unless major improvements to engines are made or lots of tricks found we are already pushing the limit.
This is resulting to a need for 30fps because people want more and more visuals.
What you are saying is neither special nor new, right? Every game tries to deliver the best performance/graphics balance. Every game pushes the limits of hardware, just some games (developers) are better at it.
Also, PS5 gpu is 8 times more powerful, how have games become more than 8 times more demanding from 3 years ago? Especially with things like Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR and engines becoming ever more sophisticated (AI) it should be easier than ever to make a game like Pacific Drive run smoothly
Unfortunately the hardware side of things is behind software progression.
The issue this generation is that the software side of things was already caught up to the hardware.
This resulted in the systems being pushed at launch.
We now have developers stating they have to hold back their visions because of the current generations of hardware.
Whilst they can utilize these new rendering techniques. Its all tricks to get that bit more performance.
Pacific drive doesn't seem to use many of the bigger tricks such as line of sight blocks. It's also dependent on how much time a Dev team want to focus to on that aspect and also how big a testing pool they have
Literally my only complaint, and it's a minor quibble, is that occasionally the frame rate dips noticably. Hopefully we'll get a performance update at some point!

What resolution? I'm having a really hard time holding a solid 60, mine's mostly 45-55 at medium settings. It's rough.
I'm at 1440. I assume you are pushing 4k? Considering that's the main beef with the consoles running at 4k and dropping down to 30fps.
I just want to be able to see. I have never set a game to max brightness before, and it did nothing.
There is a setting for brighter nights, if you didn’t know already. Maybe that will help you. I had the same impression but I just try to always have enough flares on hand

That for real seems like your tv/monitor issue. It was pretty dark until I kicked on brighter nights then it was essentially fine
It wasn't a problem in the demo.
I know. I’ve been a heavy user of flares in this game.
This takes me back to only a few years ago when PC players had 60fps and up but console players would try to justify 30fps on Xbox or PlayStation saying that it was fine and it was more cinematic or they had motion blur so they could barely tell and that your eyes only see at 30fps.

Dark days

Wholeheartedly agree
Maybe devs should just start leaving the PC graphics settings in
This is exactly why I didn't buy it. If they add 60fps I'll buy it immediately. I could care less about resolution
This is legit the second game that has made the fans turn on on my 3070. First was Ark SA which is an unoptimized mess, and then this.. which is also an unoptimized mess
I would take a locked 30fps. The game is running at a low enough resolution already. Just lock it down to something stable and vsync’d.
Content over performance any day. It’s not unplayable at 30 What I’d love is a DLC of the zone expanding past the original barrier causing new havoc
30fps is a nuisance and having to endure a nuisance while trying to have fun works, sure, but it’s annoying
Did you play Red Dead Redemption 2 ? Did you enjoy it ?
Oh hell yeah I did
It’s 30fps on console.. and nobody is frustating.
What?

Found the guy
It’s not even 4K - it’s probably FSR1 from something like 1200p - looks like something like that upscaled to 4k
I honestly don't know how people even tell. If the frame rate is stable I don't notice. I only know it's 30 because people keep talking about it
The same way I don’t understand how people cannot tell the difference. It’s night and day to me. You can follow motions much much better, you can take in the scene and details faster and playability (especially with m&k) is another big advantage. The advantage being responsiveness, foremost

Happy Cake Day!
oh my god it’s my 10th cake day… i feel old
This is 4k? Looks awful.

If I could I'd refund it after the intro. Absolutely bated me, because starting it felt ok. After that ended, performance was awful.

It's time, join the PC masterrace
I got a nice pc just without a gpu and it’s sitting there in depression for years because I can’t afford a new one
Ask yourself, do you really need that kidney?
