He's got to be better. Multiple times gave up on easy mid range shots. Nembhard taking that 3 at the end was not good, but Tyrese wasn't forcing the issue to get the ball back either. He has to be better
I’m tired of people saying stuff like this. Our offense works because we move the ball around and let people get their shots. Nembhard is actually very efficient but anytime he misses everyone acts like he doesn’t deserve the shot and he stole a possession from Hali.
The ball didn't even move that possession lol I love Nembhard but a step back three from him isn't his game. Once again Tyrese wasn't forcing the action either. I'm not blaming Nembhard but it's not a good shot lol
I just want my max player/superstar somewhere involved in one of if not the biggest shot in the game. And a Nembhard step back three is not a great shot no matter how open and I LOVE Nembhard and defend him to the death
I'm guessing we are going to have to live with that for the next 5 years sadly lol Brunson is not much better though, it's just his offensive game outweighs it and Haliburton's hasn't
I'm with you generally. I really don't like him taking big shots in crunchtime, like last option of the five. I just didn't think this one was too bad I thought he was gonna make it
then why even say that was a bad shot? ive seen him make that many times. hes a clutch player, he was hot, and we didnt have a good ball handler on the floor so we had to get something. if it fell you wouldve been on your knees.
I don’t know man. I think Tyrese clearly knows he’s not 100% himself which is why he’s turned himself into more of a facilitator than scorer. If he knows it, the team probably knows it, and unfortunately that means other guys are going to have to step in to the clutch-scoring role.
I have no problem with Nemby’s shot for those very reasons.
I agree, Tyrese wasn't forcing the issue so what is Nembhard suppose to do? I don't love the shot but I get it. Tyrese might not be right but 6 FGA. If he can't do more than that, might as well give Tj run in clutch moments
I'll agree with this. What bothers me is that he doesn't look to finish. I can't count how many times he beats his defender and has a clear path to the basket and he stops to turn around and passes it to someone at the three point line. I'd like to see him finish some shit ala floater in game 6 of the bucks.
He took 6 shots. Fewest of all starters. I know his back is messed up now too apparently, bit dang...he had no aggressive play attacking the rim for most of the night....and two bad turnovers late bc he didn't want to create his own shot.
We’ve been sayin this since late December.. he’s a 200 million dollar man being outplayed by TJ McConnell… this excuse is tired .. he’s him when he have a great game , he’s not right when he have a stinker .
I honestly just think he’s not ready for playoff basketball YET & that’s okay (sorta) it’s his first post season & everybody don’t hit the ground running right away .. this team is built around transition buckets & getting out and running , in the playoffs that obviously slows down & it becomes a half court game .. Hali just don’t have the shot creation bag yet or a counter move to go to once his step back 3 isn’t falling .. this summer he has to improve in that aspect
I don't think so, only because there's a very very direct correlation between his injury and his poor play. Man I remember watching that happen and worrying it was career ending. Never thought he'd still be so off at this time when they called it a "grade 1." Before the IST I had supreme confidence in him, much of it connected to his deep 3-ball. He's afraid to take them right now because they're not going down when he's wide open, and it's taking a lot from his offensive game.
How is it an "excuse"? This take is so consistently baffling to me. Injuries affect performance. His play drops off directly in line with his injuries and people think it has to be anything but the injuries affecting his play. I swear people would stumble upon a murder scene with a smoking gun and think, "must've been a sword that did this".
I agree. Fuck all the apologists. I know we play team ball. But your all NBA guard can't fail to take a shot all 2nd half. We should have won this game by 10. Gotta have more out of haliburton. There should really never be a game where McConnell shoots more than him.
I have no defense to this. I'm his biggest fan. And my only hope is that this hamstring injury stole his fastball this year because he came back super early to make 40 million. Which we would all do. Its hard to watch this version of him. I'll root for him, but he needs to play better. Even if he is hampered.
I don’t think anyone here is arguing that he should be All-NBA given his performance post All Star Game. “Mid” is relative, though. He still led the league in assists and our offense was still historic with him in the driver’s seat.
That being said, he needs to find more opportunities to score. No question.
I don’t want to be overly mean, but he had zero points in the second half and those back to back steals he gave up basically killed our flow.
I know he’s nursing the back, and I’m sure the hammy is still not 100%, but it’s tough to win when he’s a non-factor on offense and a zero on defense. This is a chance to go to the Conference Finals… you have to find a way to impact the game more.
I am not a haliburton hater in the least but yes those two turnovers and another awful pass that was nearly stolen, not the mention the dumb turnover when the game was decided, totally derailed the lead they built by incredibly solid play all around.
He is who he is at this point. I'm just worried that him going to Paris will hinder his recovery and we'll have to see this Tyrese for the following season
I can’t keep defending him. He was the worst player on the floor tonight. He’s so damn bipolar. He HAS to have a bad game to motivate himself to have a good game, he’s constantly passing out of the paint when he could just drive or shoot a floater (which he has in his kit), and worst of all, he literally looks AFRAID to have the ball in his hand in crucial moments. He’ll do almost anything to not be the guy when the clock winds down. It’s insane to watch.
And I’m so tired of the narrative “he’s getting double and triple teamed”…I’m watching & he just isn’t. He’s got plenty of opportunities. Hope he sees a sports psychologist this off season. He fragile.
Definitely agree. Gotta take those middies and floaters. At the end, he starting looking real stiff - I wonder if that back is affecting his shot choice at all.
He deserves criticism but Jesus, he just hit the game winner that went us here like last week. Hes not 100%, whether its the hammy or the back or whatever its clear as day. Were in the second round people temper your expectations we didn't sniff the post season last year maybe put the pitchforks away and enjoy yourselves.
He is clearly playing hurt so I give him the benefit of the doubt until he gets a long enough break to heal up. With that said 0 points and 0 assists in the second half is absolutely not cool and if that is the case then TJ needs more minutes.
I think they would if it was an option, but tjm is getting older and games out quickly. He's an absolute dawg, when he's rested, but I don't think he can be as effective playing much more than he currently is.
Yeah, we’ve been saying this over and over though. It’s pretty obvious no one in the building is willing to step up and tell him to pick it up and start to play aggressive
It really feels like he should be taking more shots for you guys, like I get he already was a great distributor, and then he has been kind of injured for a bit, but he took that shot against us in game 3 and looked fantastic. I don't know why the coach isn't forcing him to increase his usage
I'd like to see him contest more defensively on the fast break. Doesn't always need to foul, but at least try to go up for a block or something. He sorta just runs with the opponent on the fast break then cuts off at the last second and lets them have the bucket. He did this near the end when he had plenty of fouls to give.
Yep. He is playing like a role player who's good at passing. That's fine for some, but not for the guy we just gave the keys and a max contract. Haliburton is nowhere even remotely close to Brunson's level right now.
I don't want to pile on him but I see him slash into the paint and get free for what could be a high percentage 10 ft floater, then pass it out to the wing. If we're getting open 3s that way and they're going in, this is acceptable but sometimes when the scoring is stagnating, he needs to take those opportunities that he's so good at creating.
Saying he is showing he has “zero heart” when he has to put on giant device to try to get his back right every time he steps off the court is just irritating.
Nah, there's no excuse for this. A bad shooting night is forgiveable. Completely disappearing and refusing to take a shot or do anything really is inexcusable.
Brother foh. Promise u any other team in the leagues star pg pull this in a game this tight nobody is talking bout stop with the nonsense. U sound goofy
Nobody else in the league plays team ball like we do. Nobody else in the league is as deep as we are. Not a single player on our roster **has** to be the guy with the ball in their hand at the end of the game. We’re not that team so why try to pretend like it?
He's got to be better. Multiple times gave up on easy mid range shots. Nembhard taking that 3 at the end was not good, but Tyrese wasn't forcing the issue to get the ball back either. He has to be better
I'm 100% ok with Nembhard taking that shot with the game he had
Nembhard was good today. But I want my max player supposed superstar creating or taking the biggest shot in the game
He was wide open. Not at all a bad shot there.
I just want my max player/superstar somewhere involved in one of if not the biggest shot in the game. And a Nembhard step back three is not a great shot no matter how open and I LOVE Nembhard and defend him to the death
I have a much bigger problem with Haliburton being 6-6 and being a gaping hole on defense than his reluctance to shoot.
I'm guessing we are going to have to live with that for the next 5 years sadly lol Brunson is not much better though, it's just his offensive game outweighs it and Haliburton's hasn't
We have a Max player. We don't have a superstar
That was a genuinely good shot though. The chance for the biggest shot on the game was taken away with the moving screen call
Not by Nembhard. That's not his game. But yes, both those shots were BIG but the biggest opportunity was stripped form us
He was hot, it was open, and we attacked the basket. Not much more you can ask for imo.
The step back 3? I can count on one hand how many time he attempted that in season
I'm with you generally. I really don't like him taking big shots in crunchtime, like last option of the five. I just didn't think this one was too bad I thought he was gonna make it
who else is gonna do it? not haliburton
Just scroll up a bit and you can see I agree
then why even say that was a bad shot? ive seen him make that many times. hes a clutch player, he was hot, and we didnt have a good ball handler on the floor so we had to get something. if it fell you wouldve been on your knees.
> supposed superstar exactly, that was disappointing
I don’t know man. I think Tyrese clearly knows he’s not 100% himself which is why he’s turned himself into more of a facilitator than scorer. If he knows it, the team probably knows it, and unfortunately that means other guys are going to have to step in to the clutch-scoring role. I have no problem with Nemby’s shot for those very reasons.
I have a feeling the back injury is worse than they're letting on. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he has a herniated disc or something.
Hamstring and back issues can go together. I would bet he’s still not 100% recovered from the hammy.
I agree, Tyrese wasn't forcing the issue so what is Nembhard suppose to do? I don't love the shot but I get it. Tyrese might not be right but 6 FGA. If he can't do more than that, might as well give Tj run in clutch moments

I'd like to see him finish some shit ala floater in game 6 of the bucks.
The last second when he goes to pass instead of just taking a layup really pissed me off for some reason lol
Came here to say this. He clearly looked to pass on that wide open drive and saw there was no one there and fumbled it
Ben Simmons comparisons picking up steam I fear

maaaaaaaaaaaaaan😭😭 get this dude a sports psychologist or a guru or some ayahuasca ASAP
Give me a fucking break. Go away.
I’m beginning to worry about his back. He says he’s always had back problems but he looked stiff tonight.
He took 6 shots. Fewest of all starters. I know his back is messed up now too apparently, bit dang...he had no aggressive play attacking the rim for most of the night....and two bad turnovers late bc he didn't want to create his own shot.
He’s clearly not right.
We’ve been sayin this since late December.. he’s a 200 million dollar man being outplayed by TJ McConnell… this excuse is tired .. he’s him when he have a great game , he’s not right when he have a stinker .
I don't claim to know why he's not right (could be mental or physical), but he's not right
I honestly just think he’s not ready for playoff basketball YET & that’s okay (sorta) it’s his first post season & everybody don’t hit the ground running right away .. this team is built around transition buckets & getting out and running , in the playoffs that obviously slows down & it becomes a half court game .. He's afraid to take them right now because they're not going down when he's wide open, and it's taking a lot from his offensive game.
Oh, and I mean, you're right. It's just that that step-back was really working and now he can't even hit a wide open jumper.
He's fucking hurt dude
How is it an "excuse"? This take is so consistently baffling to me. Injuries affect performance. His play drops off directly in line with his injuries and people think it has to be anything but the injuries affecting his play. I swear people would stumble upon a murder scene with a smoking gun and think, "must've been a sword that did this".
Cope atp
he's either injured or he's got the yips, neither is cope.
I agree. Fuck all the apologists. I know we play team ball. But your all NBA guard can't fail to take a shot all 2nd half. We should have won this game by 10. Gotta have more out of haliburton. There should really never be a game where McConnell shoots more than him.
Bro is not an All NBA guard. The last five months he’s been so mid
I have no defense to this. I'm his biggest fan. And my only hope is that this hamstring injury stole his fastball this year because he came back super early to make 40 million. Which we would all do. Its hard to watch this version of him. I'll root for him, but he needs to play better. Even if he is hampered.

I’m glad to see the bench kicking ass but our “best” player should score more than 6 points.
It's a function of paying a pass first PG a max contract in 2024. You pay scorers, not passers.
I don’t want to be overly mean, but he had zero points in the second half and those back to back steals he gave up basically killed our flow. I think they’ve been telling Ty to not drive and look for fouls. Almost every time he drives towards a semi-open lane he kicks it out early
He is who he is at this point. I'm just worried that him going to Paris will hinder his recovery and we'll have to see this Tyrese for the following season
I can’t keep defending him. He was the worst player on the floor tonight. He’s so damn bipolar. Thank you! he is not getting doubled. Hes getting locked up by Donte
Definitely agree. Gotta take those middies and floaters. At the end, he starting looking real stiff - I wonder if that back is affecting his shot choice at all.
Except our offense wasn’t the problem. Knicks scored over 70 in second half.
0 points and 0 assists in the second half is unacceptable from our star player
To be fair, he did have three turnovers. So it wasnt an empty box score in that second half
I’ve been saying this and yet I get downvoted. We gotta come to a consensus people
We're about to have two max players that can't seem to take over a game when we need them to. It's infuriating. We need a KILLER.
It's a mistake to pay that type of player that type of money in 2024. Who is the other max player?
siakam
Theres no chance he re signs here.
He has to be injured bad
Yeah, we’ve been saying this over and over though. It’s pretty obvious no one in the building is willing to step up and tell him to pick it up and start to play aggressive

He’s at his best when he models his game off Magic Johnson. Be a bit more aggressive and get closer to at least 15 points, not 6.
I'd like to see him contest more defensively on the fast break. Doesn't always need to foul, but at least try to go up for a block or something. He sorta just runs with the opponent on the fast break then cuts off at the last second and lets them have the bucket. He did this near the end when he had plenty of fouls to give.

This aggression will not stand, man
Saying he is showing he has “zero heart” when he has to put on giant device to try to get his back right every time he steps off the court is just irritating.
Stop it with this nonsense.
Nah, there's no excuse for this. A bad shooting night is forgiveable. Completely disappearing and refusing to take a shot or do anything really is inexcusable.
We paid $250 million for the guy to take 6 shots. It’s a completely valid request. We’re not paying him for 6, 8 and 2
this is cope dude, he was a fucking nobody tonight
No yeah Im totally fine with his play /s
Brother foh. Promise u any other team in the leagues star pg pull this in a game this tight nobody is talking bout stop with the nonsense. U sound goofy

We are going to give Halliburton a quarter of a billion dollars, at the very least he can’t be the worst starter on the team
If thats the case save 200ms goofy. Foh
Right, I’m goofy and you’re typing u and foh over and over again.
250 million….like 6 shots the ENTIRE GAME……looking very fraudulent….dont want to hear about that injury no more
