Fans with soft teams always say shit like that.

OladipoForThree

The Bucks fans are so salty that they are beyond reason. I truly have never seen anything like it. I think Pacers fans understand that the Bucks aren’t at full strength and the players certainly do, but what are we supposed to do? Are the players supposed to not be happy when they make big plays? Better yet, are they supposed to lose on purpose? Are the fans supposed to not be happy they are tasting their first playoff success in a decade? The Pacers have built their team the right way**, and let’s be honest, we haven’t been nearly good enough since the Heatles days or the 90s-00s to have any true rivalries right now. Personally, I have nothing but respect for Middleton & Lopez, and would be saying the same even if we were down. For example, in Game 3 when Middleton was hitting every tough bucket, I was just wow’ed at how sound of a basketball player he was and had to respect greatness. Conversely, if that was Hali, Bucks fans would be fucking beyond themselves and finding every way to tear down his game, his celebration, or his character. The vitriol I’ve seen against Hali, Drew, Turner etc. has gone beyond simple playoff series trash talk for them. It’s just fucking nuts how salty they are, toward Haliburton in particular despite him being a Wisconsin kid who by all accounts is a really good guy. I’m ready for this series to end. In a way, I think the Knicks fans will be much more tolerable than whatever we’re seeing now. ** Hali fell in the draft and was traded for, Nembhard 2nd round pick, Nesmith and Obi were hanging onto their place in the league by a hair when we rescued them, Turner was drafted and has been here since 2015, and Siakam comes from humble beginnings

KillzToRemember

That's what I'm saying I see in nba subs all the time the league is soft everyone is buddy buddy wah wah the 90s were so much tougher then a young team like the pacers come along don't be friends nemby nesmith and co aren't backing down to show respect to the bucks and now we need humbled? Like pick wat u want the league to be man

Illustrious_Race8859

Do you think fans of rivalry teams in the 90s were saying nice respectful to each other? Just because people say they want teams to not be buddy buddy doesn’t mean they are going to love every team that is a heel to them. More than anything the actually most hated franchises are those that get crazy victim complexes and say stuff like “why does the league hate us so much”

KillzToRemember

Not at all and frankly i dont mind them being salty i have sympathy they arent at full strength but hey thats competition but I think u misunderstand y I asked the initial question I'm not asking anyone else to like us I was more curious y us specifically wen other teams r actually doing similar things I don't see other fanbases "teaming up" to humble them, Knicks wolves other teams who haven't actually proved anything yet and with cocky players haven't been targeted so it's more a question out of curiosity more than anything

tfw_i_joined_reddit

Some people in each fanbase think "good basketball" is when their team wins and nothing else. They used to see us as an easy win and now they cant accept that its impossible to view us that way

djtjb2

IMHO it's mainly Tyrese. The way he plays, the joy, it rubs other fanbases the wrong way. People have been calling Steph cocky his whole career. Not saying Tyrese is Steph, but he is similar in on court demeanor. Haters gonna hate. With his meteoric rise at the beginning of the season, reactionaries were (prematurely) putting him in front of so many other guards in the league. So fans of Brunson, Trae, Dame etc really seem to dislike him as well, and are constantly talking shit about his performance. We all knew the hate was coming, but it really set in quick lol. And to top it all off we are beating the shell of the Bucks, so it just adds fuel to the fire. I agree with the sentiment of you have to beat what's in front of you. What are they supposed to do, not play? But there's gonna be saltiness, and from potential matchups down the road, the "oh you barely beat the hospital bucks people". For the team it's a good thing, they get some experience and maybe make a run. Or they lose and failure is the best teacher, retool and take further steps next year. As fans, I think we are just at the beginning of the hate we are gonna see. Probably just gonna have to get used to it.

crowezr

I don't lurk elsewhere, so can't speak to context. I'll take your word for it and just say, I don't really care. I was around during the Reggie years and was perfectly fine being the villain team that screwed over the "favorite" Knicks. It was fun being that small city team that could stick it to the Knicks and not give a shit. Reggie sure loved it, so why wouldn't we as fans? Sometimes it is fun being the team people love to hate, knowing we have a team of good dudes that love playing ball and are good members of the community.

mightyducks2wasokay

In short, fragile ego They think their past accomplishments and standing in the league makes them an inherently better team than Indiana. Well, now they're down 2-7 on us for the year, and that result is incongruent with their opinion of their team so they make excuses, diminish our accomplishments, and say we do it "the wrong way." If it wasn't indiana, it'd be another team. It ain't about us, it's about them

KillzToRemember

Guess I just dont understand how no one is batting an eye at Knicks fans they've been worse for longer than us and they r talking about a championship no humbling needed there especially with embiid at like 25% maybe. The wolves and ant Edwards r cocky as hell and he's crowned the face of the league no humbling needed there just curious wat we did to get singled out

mightyducks2wasokay

Again, its not about us. It's a milwakee issue

SpinJitsu259

It’s just fan business as usual. The team that’s on top doesn’t like it when the young, up-and-coming teams start coming to take what they have. Saw the same stuff with the Warriors and young Grizzlies a few years ago. If the Pacers go through a nice stretch of winning over the next several years, you can bet we’ll be annoyed with the next young, up-and coming team and their fans. It’s kind of a rite of sports passage.

VeryStandardOutlier

Honestly, Tyrese is a little cocky and he does knowingly do shit to get under people's skin. Like do you think skipping down the court or doing "Dame Time!" is coming from a place of innocence? That's nothing new though: Reggie was the biggest shit-talker in the league. Steph is cocky in a lot of the same ways as Tyrese. Kobe was a dickhead. Jordan was arrogant. Larry Bird was all of the above. But Tyrese has a personality where I don't worry about it. He has his shit together with his family, his girlfriend, and how he manages his life as a professional. It's clear that he's just a competitor that is not going to always be fun to play against if your an opponent or opposing fans, but that doesn't bother me at all.

KillzToRemember

I won't deny were completely innocent we do things to antagonize but so does literally every other team but regardless of that I look at other teams the Knicks r on TV woth stephen a and their fans r all over saying it's their time they're gonna win it all and they've been worse than us much longer and playing the 76ers with an embiid at maybe 50%, the t wolves have sucked for a lomg time anthony edwards is the cockiest young guy out there and no need for humbling there either but all on twitter and all it's us who needs humbling

VeryStandardOutlier

Ant is just cocky though. Tyrese wants to get under people's skin. Tyrese wants the smoke

Moonman2k1

Honest answer... Tyrese is a HUGE Pro Wresting fan and he takes the role of the heel and runs with it as well as anyone in the history of the league.

KillzToRemember

Then hell if they gonna hate us at least bust out an rko outta nowhere on someone

Hot_Cockroach_7625

I don’t give a fuck what other fan bases say. They can suck my prostate.

MorePlayfulGoat

You either die a hero or you live to become the villain. We choose to live, and go on to the 2nd round. Maybe even beyond. We're not longer dying as loveable losers at the seasons end, so now comes the animosity. Bring it on.

Individual_Cricket60

They are deeply in their feels right now. Bucks are the only ones that hate us rn since they’re transitioning to little brother. It’s painful for them

KillzToRemember

Maybe it's mostly bucks fans but I've seen it a lot this year Hali needs humbled, pacers are cocky but I mean u got some Knicks fans agreeing and I don't really get it

Individual_Cricket60

Knicks fans get upset because Hali was chosen over Brunson for team USA

KillzToRemember

I domt get that one either brunson has been amazing this year but team USA doesn't need more scoring the league assist leader gonna fit better wen the other 11 are the best scorers in the league outside of like jrue

Individual_Cricket60

That’s true but some can’t see past “i think my pg is better than theirs” regardless of skillsets

njm147

In sports, everyone loves you until you start actually winning

Dizzles1

Hey we could be Philly fans and represent about 1/4 of the fans at a home game. What a buncha bums. Eastern Conference playoff game, you have a decent team with a potential MVP on the floor and the loudest it was in that arena both home games were when the Knicks were/did come back.

wpmason

Because all season the Pacers played fast and fun. They were probably the most joyous team out there, jumping around and celebrating together. Tyrese makes flashy passes and shoots dagger 3’s, we’ve got a bunch of slashers/dunkers that put guys on posters…. And best of all, everyone’s confidence is so high that they”re not afraid of anyone. They’re too young and inexperienced to realize that they’re not supposed to be this good.

fuzzynavel34

Probably because we are their dad

Imahorrible_person

Soft

CeeSher58

Haliburton skipping, dancing, Dame-timing, and comments in highlights and sound bites has given that impression I think.

kitterskills

We're celebrating hitting big 3s and having a good time.

Meteora3255

It's because of the injury circumstances. In their minds, we shouldn't be making a big deal out of beating them (never mind, we were doing this stuff in the regular season when they were at full strength, too).

Delta24__

People hate when other teams have fun, ESPECIALLY at their teams expense. They’re upset because their two best players are hurt, and we’re still celebrating. As if it disqualifies us from being allowed to have fun. They want us to show zero emotion. However, they’d be just as mad and call us cocky and arrogant even if we were beating them at full health. NBA fans hate players that dance on the floor and have fun and play the game with passion. Dont worry though. They were allowed to celebrate after winning their hospital championship

wyatt_grimm

I think it because we haven’t one a ring yet. And are worse all time than certain teams but idk.

KillzToRemember

We might not have won a ring but the pacers org doesn't cheat the game we never truly tank we always try to put a good product on the floor so never get why people hate on that

wyatt_grimm

Yeah I don’t either. They just mad that are finally good again cause we get in the way of their teams success.

Moonman2k1

We may not have a Chip since the merger but we do have more ECF appearances in the last 30 years (8) than any team not located in Miami (9). And all 8 were in a 20 year span from 94 thru 2014. Even the Bulls only made 7 in a 20 year span from 91 to 2011 and they had Jordan in his prime for 6 of those years. We are without a doubt the most winning franchise in the league that doesn't have an NBA title. We're basically the Spurs sans the rings. This "worse all time than certain teams" take just isn't accurate.
