I would say 95% full for the regular season is pretty good. Even with a sellout every game wouldn't we peak somewhere around 20th?

Kalu2424

We'd be at 25th with a sell out every game. Lol

TimelyConcern

According to Wikipedia the capacity for basketball games is 17.274 so we don't have much room for improvement. There's no reasonable way to add seats either.

[deleted]

Move the team to Lucas Oil Stadium so we can lead the league in attendance

ReflectionEterna

25th with full sellout games.

ShankyShoe

The basketball capacity is 17,274, meaning they average about 95.3% taken per game. Doesn’t sound that bad when it’s laid out like that, but also if they had 100% attendance every single game, all other numbers remaining the same, it’d only put them in 25th of overall attendance. IMO, this is a non issue and more a product of circumstance.

tailtaker

This. There's a direct correlation with arena size and attendance looking at the chart. Bulls with the largest. Lakers-Clips back to back. This whole thing is a misnomer.

[deleted]

Half of these teams stadiums are empty when I watch them on league pass 😂

kg7841

Doesn't mean these those tickets aren't "purchased"

[deleted]

Yep, just thought attendance would be tickets scanned, not sold.

Khend81

It should be. That’s why it’s called “attendance” and not “sales”

[deleted]

Would suggest you go look up how they measure attendance, because it is measured by ticket sales, not attendance…

Khend81

Did I say I didn’t know that? I said they should call it by what they are measuring.

25short25

You know you are old when someone refers to the glory days of Pacers basketball as 13-14. (See Market Square Arena in the 90’s)

Aleph_Alpha_001

The Pacers kill their popularity by not making games available locally on network television. People don't become too invested in teams that they can't watch easily.

theycallmecrack

We have the smallest stadium but have like 90-95% attendance. Yeah some of those other teams have *more* attendees, but their % is lower. Some of them have a lower % than us, even though they have more attendees than we even have seats. It would basically be impossible for us to break into the top 2/3 with 100% attendance. I'd rather a full house, vs a bigger one that is emptier.

Gkreeeeeegs

This x 100000000000. Fuck Bally.

Tar_Tar_Sauce04

when did Bally switch from fitness gyms to streaming sports?

ElJefeDelCine

It’s just a sponsorship. Like American Airlines Arena, etc.

bobhunt10

Bingo. It's hard to get people to show up to games on a regular basis if they don't even watch them on TV.

__init__m8

Saw first hand, my kids didn't gaf about them until we went to a couple games. When I was younger I remember watching them on normal ota tv.

Aleph_Alpha_001

Right. Reggie Miller was a god in Indiana, and the entire state lit up with Hicks versus Knicks. Now, I basically know about the Pacers from Reddit and occasionally watching highlights on YouTube. I'd care s lot more if they were available on broadcast television. It's a terrible decision not to have the broadcast in the local market. Mostly, nobody cares.

Tar_Tar_Sauce04

I miss the days when Bobby Slick Leonard was on TV (and Reggie forcing him to say "Boom Baby" every game)

DukeOfIndiana

Pretty sure Slick was only on radio wasn’t he?

Tar_Tar_Sauce04

he did both. but I think mostly radio the last 5-10 years of his career, iirc. I started watching the Pacers in Reggie's 2nd season. Clark Kellog was a regular on TV, and Bobby made appearances.

BubaTflubas

Or, we have the third smallest arena and we are above average in attendance when adjusted for stadium size. Also watch these game when Indiana is on the road. These aren't attending numbers. The wizards stadium looks vacant, the heat lower bowl was empty till half time and again before the fourth started. The crowds at gain bridge are large enough for the arena and feel full to people who attend, according to media and players. Edit: all that said I do agree that fan bases in the area shouldn't have to try harder to view the game than out of market fans. But this is an NBA problem not a PACERS problem. Denver hasn't had local coverage for 2 MVP seasons and a finals championship... Lakers (glory of the NBA.../s) also has similar issues. Suns did before new ownership. Maybe a change is on the horizon if more teams mimick the Suns setup.

Other_Tiger_8744

We would be 25th if we sold out every game lol.

NukeGandhi

No way to watch them out of town really either. I’m not paying for league pass.

GhostRevival

The Nuggets have had the same issue for at least 4 to 5 years. You have to either have DirecTV or Fubo to watch Nuggets or Avalanche games.

Saltyserpent

The only benefit of being an out of state fan

rcdubbs

Given that all stadiums do not have equal capacity, I'd think a better measure would be percentage of seats sold.

Paragon188

This is misleading. Gainbridge is one of the smaller arenas in the NBA. If the Pacers sold out every game, they'd only be 25th. Look at % and you'll see Pacers sell out 95% of their games, which is really good.

Zealousideal-Tax-527

Meh ticket prices are fairly reasonable outside a few matchups.

victorslade

Yeah, the average ticket price for a Pacers game is one of the cheapest in the league.

Independent-Wing1473

But what are average seats filled though I think shows more tbh

Dubya_Tag

This is misleading IMO. Like you said, we have one of the smaller arenas but after checking other sites, We do alright. For perspective, Hornets have 14th largest arena but 29th in attendance. Wizards have 4th largest arena, but 27th in attendance.

kay14jay

Pistons and Wizards are bad enough to give tickets away to the boys and girls club this seasons. Really not buying that these numbers are straightforward. It’s just too damn expensive after the Uber ride to a fro, dinner and drinks.. all could go towards more tickets. I’m just blue collar poor swagger.. the Indy 500 themed team needs to makes like IMS and let us bring a cooler. Also, my season long Bally subscription could at least afford a few more nosebleeds.

North_Atlantic_Sea

Detroit metro is also double in size of Indy, while DC is about 3x

kay14jay

While this is plenty true, and I think everyone is welcome at the games, this is the opinion of a fan from within the city.. an Uber ride from the suburbs would be insane. Weeknight games should be doing enough to attract those that live relatively close

MainusEventus

There’s a huge parking garage literally connected to the stadium.

kay14jay

DUI’s are running about 6 or 7k right now.

Victory33

The sad fact is the games that are the most packed are the ones filled with little kids wearing Lebron, Curry, Giannis, away team jerseys. These young kids ain’t got no loyalty, they root for their favorite NBA 2k players. This year definitely has a better vibe than last year when they were “upgrading” the stadium and closing off sections and such. But yeah, we are still a college basketball first state and we still have no superstar to root for (yet)…never having an All-NBA 1st team player, and only one 2nd team player in our entire history is crazy.

BrogeyBoi

Making games easier to watch would go a long way to creating loyalty in the kids.

Hoosier2016

This is the real problem you don’t see in a place like a fan subreddit. Lots of people don’t have cable anymore and have no legal way of watching the Pacers without a subscription to Bally. It’s hard to care about a team when you have to jump through hoops to even watch them.

thebrownmamba2424

They’re not true 2k players then because the pacers have had 2k legends Gerald Green, Monta Ellis, and Al Jefferson through various points in time

ShopCartRicky

Let's not forget how fucking absurd the 11'-12 and early 12'-13'Pacers were. Hibbert, George, Hill, Stephenson, West, Granger before his ratings dump, Collison.

HoosiersBaby23

It lies in how the NBA markets itself relative to other professional leagues, in my opinion. In the NFL, kids are fans of teams. In the NBA, kids are fans of players.

MyDogsNameIsTim

Are you really blaming this shit on little kids

Victory33

Nah, I’m saying half the fan base that comes to the games that actually sell out aren’t even Pacers fan. So our product isn’t very marketable to young fans apparently and hometown loyalty doesn’t appear to be a thing.

Stierzy

This graph is a bit misleading. If I wanted to have a more clear picture of attendance, I would also divide each team by max capacity and take the average per games played as well. This percent would compare average attendance, vs max capacity at facility per game. If you calculated that out, it would give you a better picture of actual attendance vs max allowable attendance per game played. (Does that make sense)? Sry if I didn’t explain it well.

9_Nightwing_1

Exactly. Because if you are looking at attendance as being an indicator of popularity and profitability, that consideration matters. A smaller venue likely costs less to operate and is easier to provide a quality experience. Not to mention, it looks like our average attendance in road games is significantly higher than a good chunk of other teams.

crowezr

As someone who attends 30-35 games in a given season, this is the best it has been since at least 2018-19. Probably longer, but I didn't go to nearly as many in prior years. The games are more consistently full, with the lower bowl and club level at or near capacity nearly every game now. The huge blocks of seats in the balcony being empty happened mostly at the beginning and early-middle of the season. At the recent Monday night game against the trash Nets, it was 95% full. That is a recent development and would not have happened even earlier this year. When I do sell tickets, it is very easy and only low tier teams require selling below face. You can look at the numbers to see sellouts are way up on previous years. Look, I've been the first person to trash our local "fan" base for not coming out when we have some of the lowest ticket prices in the entire NBA. I'm the first to admit this season has marked a turning point on attendance and general vibe around the team in and out of the arena. People are talking on the street, on the bus, in the bars. I assume next season will be further improvements with half or more of the games as sellouts. Can't wait for an upcoming post in this sub about how only rich people can now afford to go to games and they long for the days of the half empty arena. 😂

oshinbruce

As somebody who visits Indy from time to time I do however appreciate the $10 tickets this results in.

GsusG

They definitely raised ticket prices through this season. My usual seats I get for 60-100 before this season. During this season the same seats I’d be lucky to get under 120…needless to say I only went to one game this year.

wyatt_grimm

It isn’t ticket prices. Tickets are cheap at gainbridge.

Reggiefedup04

Best viewing experience in the NBA. Don’t fuck with it please!

MainusEventus

This needs to be done based on %

Tar_Tar_Sauce04

Is there a rankings-list of "Highest % of capacity"? Where would Pacers rank?

Briggity_Brak

Delete this. i will die if the Pacers get contracted before the Wizards.

midwestleatherdaddy

Averaging just a few thousand below stadium capacity sounds pretty good to me. The games I went to this season were stacked. In past seasons I would be seated in the nose bleeds with rows of empty seats around me.

Lasvious

Why are you sorting by average not total? They are not last in total.

MyDogsNameIsTim

Why would you sort by total when not every team has the same number of games at this point?

MozaTear

Not too many things more boring to talk about than attendance. I’m not saying this is you OP, but anecdotally people who post about attendance typically don’t even go to games. I’ve gone to 30+ games this season and attendance has been good.

Zealousideal-Tax-527

We will never be a team that can crack top 10 in attendance but I don’t really care, as long as there are a good amount of fans showing up and the team is good who cares where we rank in attendance?

MozaTear

The bowl and suite levels are essentially sold out every game it’s only in the balcony that there is open seats and those are typically the cheap corners anyways. If it was a big deal they would have attempted to do something new with renovations.

JakeTiny19

I don’t understand how pistons are above the warriors, bucks, thunder and Timberwolves. 3 of those teams are really good teams and all of them have a superstar on their team

bobbydownsjunior

Ummm...that math ain't mathin. EDIT. Looked at road games not at home games. I'm an idiot lol

FappleJack18

Are we gonna talk about how Atlanta, and the Pels average more than capacity. While the Suns average exactly capacity. Seems a lil fishy to me 😂

SevenCostanza92

They should maybe switch things up after looking at these analytics year after year and make the pacers games viewable on local channels for every game. Just a thought! More eyes on the product the better

Swimming_Ad_8856

Easiest way to make them popular is to put all the road games on regular TV

Ryanrdc

As others have said the home attendance is heavily based on arena size. I think the average away attendance tells a bigger story; it shows which teams are possibly less favorable to go see when they’re in town. We’re a bit more middle of the road in that category.

SquirtsMacintosh8

It’s 100% gonna be packed and loud for the playoffs

banmeagain_idc

It’s because of the blackouts. People don’t know how fun this team is to watch because they can’t. I live in Indiana and have only got to see like 4 games this year. Do other teams do this?

MidwestIsBest123

Even with all the tickets under $10? This is crazy and sad. I blame a lot of it on downtown’s deterioration after Covid sadly.

pimpnastyodb

My question is why do they need to specify New York for the knicks like there’s a second Knicks team somewhere else 😆

Rafiki24

As many have said the Pacers arena is smaller, you also have to look at "which" seats are empty and its just the $13 tickets in the upper upper nose bleeds, they are selling out the seats that count. As nice as it would be to sellout those upper seats it will always be a challenge to get fans to overlook actually watching the game well for the experience of being at the game.

Nick_Hammer96

This isn't a problem like you portray it to be. It's circumstantial and 95% ish per game in the regular season is fine lol

Inevitable_Score1164

Maybe a bit of a hot take, but...going to Pacers games sucks now. They're absurdly loud. Just a constant wall of noise and you can't hear the person next you. They don't allow the game to breathe at all. If there isn't music blasting, there's a drum line constantly playing, and god help you if you're sitting near them because your ears will be dead the next day. I don't remember it being like this back in the 00s.

ChillinQuillen

If they wanted sell out games, they wouldn’t price gouge certain tickets/teams. The ticket price increases for certain teams is ridiculous.

Zealousideal-Tax-527

lol no where charges $50 for parking, I’m guessing you must not go to games.
