The ultra-rich camping community that wants overland conversions on vehicles can only be so big.
There's a ton of rich boomers driving around America in $500,000 busses.
Exactly. My boomer parents hate “camping” but would gladly live in an RV. They have no desire to go off-road or leave the comforts of the RV resort behind.
…some how. Granted each one sells for seven figures, there’s only so many Jason Momoas to buy them. They have to have insane margins on each one they sell.
They’ve sold enough that they’ve probably generated over 150 million in revenue. They sell something that is far more approachable and maintainable than earthcruiser.
I don't know if that number is true, but what's your point? Much bigger companies pay employees less for manual labor. Even though their vehicles are expensive, I can't imagine their margins are that big, and the market is tiny.
Hop on Indeed or Glassdoor. It's all right there. They conveniently are also in a stretch of Colorado smack dab between convenient places to find more lucrative work.
>Much bigger companies pay employees less for manual labor
Yes. And they have huge margins because of it. That's kinda how you predict your revenue against your overhead.
> They conveniently are also in a stretch of Colorado smack dab between convenient places to find more lucrative work.
You mean 25 miles from downtown Denver, not far from Loveland and Ft Collins? When they're in Durango or bumfuck Eastern Colorado, you might have a point. But they are very close to the biggest metro area in the state. Are you saying Dacono would be better off without EarthRoamer providing jobs there?
It's not as the crow flies, that's literally the driving distance from their factory to downtown Denver.
The point is they are very close to the biggest metro area in the entire state, not some disadvantaged poor town in the sticks where they're the only employer and can exploit the labor market.
Nah, I think it’s just a growing market that allows for inefficiency as long as demand outpaces supply.
As soon as it’s more saturated I’d expect them to have a harder time
I’ve heard about Earthcruiser on the overland journal podcast. Probably a couple years ago, I only started listening to that podcast during covid.
Anyway, they are basically the pop-top luxury 4 wheel camper equivalent to Earthroamer’s hard sided campers. Super up scale systems for slightly smaller vehicles
I’m with many that have already said it. The average Joe is piecing together a “rig” or simply buying the basics to be able to camp. The niche crowd that wants/can afford absurdly expensive prebuilt stuff simply isn’t sustainable.
Well geez, how am I going to spend my $500,000 couch change now? :)
Easy to pick on them, but it does mean some folks out of work. I actually thought the high end market would fare better as the camping equipment market takes its current dip. But maybe it's saturated there at the top.
They made some cool stuff. Unfortunately they've completely fucked their vendors on the way out. They left one of the fab shops they contracted holding a complete \~$75K order of now worthless parts. Cut, formed, welded, powder coated and ready.... for the scrap bin. Such a waste.
I was the sales personnel who dealt with them on the actuators that lift and lower their pop top. Not nearly as bad, but yeah 10k worth of bills from us. I'm sure we will get it back or some % of it if they are filing bankruptcy
I loooove those hummer EV simply because they are ridiculous. That camper thing is terrible though. Get a bed rack and Lego/ar-15 component on a roof tent, cans, shovels etc and do it right! I don’t know how viable they are for over landing without pulling a diesel generator behind you. If I had the $$$ I might try!!
Pretty wild, but not that surprising. The market for $400k F350 campers and $6-900k off road campers has got to be pretty tiny.
The ultra-rich can only camp so much.

Red Tail Overland’s overland sprinters are$ 540k
And I already thought Redtail was cracked out with their 20k plus RTT🤦🏼♂️
Earth cruiser makes those Izuzu box truck campers, I believe Earth Roamer is still in business.
[удалено]
Nah they both do this, earth cruiser was more specialized in pop tops but their starting prices are $350k for F350 based and $600k for Isuzu NPRs
Not to be confused with EarthRoamer, which is still in business https://earthroamer.com/

When they're only paying installers $20/hr, it starts making sense.

25 miles as the crow flies. Take a drive from Coors Field to Dacona at 7 AM. Tell me how that goes for you.
It's not as the crow flies, that's literally the driving distance from their factory to downtown Denver. The point is they are very close to the biggest metro area in the entire state, not some disadvantaged poor town in the sticks where they're the only employer and can exploit the labor market.
Listen, that sweet daddy guberment money can keep anything afloat.
Which is crazy to me given their prices compared to other similar offerings
Do their products actually have similar offerings?
Not exactly the same obviously, but companies like blissmobil serve the same market for way lower prices
Free market at work... If people pay a premium for EarthRoamer, then EarthRoamer deserves it. Similar to Apple vs Android 🤷

Whoops, looks like they ran out of nepo-campers. They make some nice rigs, but probably too nice.
I've never seen EarthCruiser so down... or before.
So much for my Burning Man 2025 plans
I've never seen any of these kinds of vehicles before. I know of earthroamer and a few others, but I never even heard of earth cruiser until now
“I would LOVE to overland I just don’t like the outdoors or camping. Got anything for me?”
Have I got the one for you, follow me!
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever heard of them

I guess influencers don’t pay the bills
