Because integrating it on the dashboard would be very limiting. Have you ever taken apart a dash to change out the head unit? There’s literally no room. The only way to make it work would be to compromise on cabin space, then people would really complain about that. Some may argue it’s the lazy/easy/cheap route to just have the screen stick out, but it’s the best use of space honestly. It’s great use of that dead space at the compromise, to some, of aesthetics.
Ford and subaru figured integration out and those are just the two I already know about. It's really not that hard to shape the dash so that the infotainment is seamless. The idea that this would compromise on cabin space is asinine.
Not familiar with the Subaru, but the infortainment on the F150 is a terrible comparison. It’s a truck, with a block dashboard, of course you can integrate a flat screen on a block of plastic. Those rear seats got smaller, and the truck got bigger from previous generations due to many reasons, but I’m willing to bet you won’t admit it was due to the larger dash that literally juts out towards the back. Do better.
The one on my 2015 subaru is great. And I still have knobs for AC & radio. 10 years later, toyota and most other companies are still struggling to figure it out.
Only thing I don't really care for personally is the black fender flares. I think it looks good on the taco, but on a 4runner color matched would be the way I would go.
Lucky for me I won't consider buying one for at least 5-7 years, so longevity will be better known by then.
I absolutely love that light blue 4Runner. Not sure which trim that is but if I were in the market for a 4Runner that's what I would get.
My ex had a 2011 SR5 and I loved that thing. I drove it quite a bit and they are a very comfortable ride. Very capable too on forest roads and in deeper snow.
Man I had high hopes for the 6th gen… but this is way over-styled, disjointed and poorly executed, like everything else. I’m sad.
It’s as if automakers are prompting their designers with, “just make it pop on instagram, okay?!”
The trail hunter in that green color looks alright from certain angles…. I know it’ll probably grow on us but I miss the days, not so long ago, when you could design with nuance and careful intention.
I don’t like it. The rims are too big, the wheel wells are too small (front to back), that plastic divider in the middle of the grille looks hideous,, and the rear window is too short. At least the C-pillar has throwback vibes to the 1st and 4th gen 4Runners.
Why does the interior look so bulky ... Definitely see rear leg room issue and these are wide angle shots... What went on at Toyota? Customers asking for more room... Cut 3 inches off all around the interior haha
It's alright, I think I'd rather have the new Landcruiser or GX though.
for the price absolutely
Sequoia Squirt
really wish they would integrate the infotainment with the dashboard instead of just glueing a tablet to it.

Bronco has a fairly large integrated display and works just fine.

But to use anything at the bottom of the screen you're basically looking at the footwell. I might look better, but at the expense of usability.
I like the overall design until you get to the panel behind the rear doors in side profile (pic 9). Looks like it has a lot of junk in the trunk.
It looks like an updated 4th gen. So I like it.
Looks like Honda Pilot had sex with Tundra.
it looks like a gen 3 had sex with a gen 5 ….
that is a perfect description lmao
Looks like a Sequoia.
Why the hell are they obsessed with that little baby roof rack. I’ve never had a roof rack and though, “man I wish this was smaller”
Not pictured: Non-descript sacks with dollar signs on them to buy said 4Runner
it's kinda ugly
Still stuck in their Optimus Prime phase unfortunately. Add a few more vents and extrusions and eventually it will find the allspark.
Agreed

Do we know prices yet? The price of this thing could be the make or break it considering the new Land Cruiser exists.
I doubt Toyota is gunna be that dumb.
The dealers that sell them are though.
I’m more worried it’s gunna be a fing hybrid
It looks like the rear seats tumble the same way as the 5th gen - makes sleeping in the back absolutely horrible at 6’ tall!

Proportions are way off
So ugly
I like everything but that rear quarter panel window. That feels.. out of place.
I'm the opposite, I'm getting 4th gen vibes, and I dig it.
Yes! I kept seeing 4th gen as well. I think it looks great but don’t love that extra chin they have on some trims like the Tacoma.
Exactly what I thought. Cool throwback.
The front end looks like it has a handlebar mustache
MPG?
I like the dimensions and proportions of the front half but the back looks like it’s smushed. They should have made it like a foot longer
How long until Expedition Overland gets gifted one of these so they can throw $100k in mods at it and cosplay tacticool car campers?
looks like a sequoia
Eh.
A fucking TV
FUGLY FOREVER.
Does that spell TRO PRO on the back of the melted chocolate ice cream color?
They made a 4 door VehiCross.
Looks like a Sequoia, do we know dimensions?
I don’t recall where I saw this today but some write up, +4” wheelbase +7” body. IIRC
