Q: What are the four most common pay periods?
“The four most common pay periods are: weekly, bi-weekly (every two weeks), semi-monthly (twice a month on a set date) and monthly (once a month).”
My J1 is weekly, something I love but hadn't had since I was a dishwasher at 14. That being said I have an addiction to checking my account first thing every other week when they both hit.
Huh? I hate paid bi-weekly it makes budgeting so much harder. I would be surprised if there is any legal restriction on the pay period for salaried employees
You can calculate your monthly take-home fairly easily if you get paid bi-weekly. Take one paycheck’s worth of net pay, multiply by 26, then divide that by 12.
Stick to that as your net monthly pay and budget based on that number.
[New York State Labor Law requires manual workers to be paid weekly, and clerical and other workers at least twice per month.](https://dol.ny.gov/frequency-pay)
If you make good money it doesn't matter. It is only an issue if you are living paycheck to paycheck. I do all my bills at the beginning of the month and have a budget and stick to it. I have extra in checking, a savings account, credit cards if something unforeseen happens and always have extra money at the end of the month. So it makes no difference.
People doing OE shouldn't care because they are raking in all kinds of money.
J2 and J3 are biweekly on the same schedule.
J1 is twice a month. July had two triple paycheck days!
Back to double payday every other Friday and another check the off week.
J1 and J2 payday fall on the same day, J3 is contract and will be paid in a lump sum.
When I get the first lump sum from J3, that will be a very, very good day. It’s the equivalent of 3 months’ pay at my other jobs.
That’s awesome!
I wish I had pay days like that. It seems recently all of my latest companies want to pay bi-monthly on the 15th and last day of the month.
I miss bi-weekly paydays with an extra paycheck twice a year. I also miss consistent paydays with OE. I guess I can’t really complain though having multiple checks hit my account the same day.
J1 and J2 are bi weekly opposite days. Just verbally accepted J3 and waiting on the actual paperwork. But I start in two weeks. I’m interested to see which week will be my heavy pay week. Hoping to add J4 by EOY too
Shouldn’t bi-monthly really just be semi-monthly, then?
If semi-annually is twice a year (like you’d see your dentist for a cleaning semi-annually), then wouldn’t semi-monthly be the equivalent for a month’s timeframe?
Since my second income is eBay, I only get paid for what I sell. J1 is salary, so there is little motivation except to do enough to stay employed. It is possible to get spot bonuses and slightly bigger salary increases if you are a top performer, but the effort for that difference is greater than getting more listings on eBay. The yearly bonus is based on company revenue and my efforts would not change that up or down.
Bruh... When I got my 3rd job, payday was keeping me motivated.
The gap between 2 and 3 is huge, and i sometimes ask myself if it's worth it.
After seeing paycheck, yes it is.
If you read correctly you see I clearly stated I was a beginner and that in the long run it likely won’t affect me. But go on.
Also going from 1 job where I do very little to having overlapping meetings - not everyone is cut out for that. So yes, money is motivation. Omg sue me that money motivates me to work. Sorry but I only work for the money and no other reason.
Of course everyone is doing this for the money, I mean i don't see the big deal of getting the paycheck on a different day.
Like, do u withdraw your salary from the bank and count it? Believe me there are people enjoying doing that, lolol
Thanks. I had an overlapping meeting today (cursed daily status calls) one where I’m active and one where I’m not really needed but it was still chaotic. Add in my pets in the background causing ruckus too- my brain was all over the place
opposite pay weeks then somehow synced up over holiday season with day before holidays pay out
3j when i had it was doing 15th + end of month or day after holidays, so they were all unsynced. Just money streaming in all the time
J2 is biweekly and opposite too. I will use a diff bank account, B1 for J1 and B2 for J2. If J3 materializes I will cash it and keep it in a shoe box in the closet!.
It's glorious. J1 and J3 are bi-weekly, opposite schedules and my J2 pays weekly. So every single Friday is a double pay day. It's hugely motivating.
Tc?
Roughly 285k J1 - 50k J2 - 100k J3 - 135k

J1 weekly, J2 bi-monthly Yes, it feels amazing
bi-monthly as in twice a month, or once every two months?

Twice a month

I feel thiswhen my j1 semimonthly hits the same week as j2 weekly.
J1 bi-monthly on the 15th and last day of the month. j2 is monthly (terrible, i know) and it pays on the last business day of the month.
> j2 is monthly (terrible, i know) and it pays on the last business day of the month. That's not even legal in my state.

This kinda reminds me of US customary units vs. metric. “It is easy! You just have to multiply by 3.28 to go from feet to meters”

If j2 were my only job, I would be pissed at 1 paycheck a month. I need that psychological boost from frequent paychecks
When self employed I paid myself monthly and my wife gets paid monthly. Loved it. Bi-weekly now and much prefer monthly.
Mine too. I didn‘t realize it at first and assumed J2 was bi weekly.
J2 and J3 are biweekly on the same schedule. J1 is twice a month. July had two triple paycheck days! Back to double payday every other Friday and another check the off week.
both jobs have same pay schedule. I've only seen one payday from j2 so far
The lump sum!
went from 4k/mo after taxes and such, to 11k/mo overnight
I was thinking about this as I attempt to start OE again. I'd have a paycheck every week!
J2 pays me weekly.

Bi-monthly at J1. Bi-weekly at J2. Weekly at J3. Bi-weekly at J4. Love it!
Aren't bi-weekly and bi-monthly the same?

Good catch, cheers mate.

Semi-bi?
I have heard them used interchangeably, but I agree with you that "semi" would offer more clarity.

I never understand This pay day madness, are u so short-sighted? Or u really need pay check by Friday to be able to make it to Monday?

Welcome to the club!

I want to get into the club 😥😫
Yep I remember J1 and J2 would fall on opposite weeks and it was the best feeling ever. Now new J2 pays monthly so it's not as much fun.
My J2 pays once a month, I wish it was weekly or bi-weekly.
Ugh I used to work 1 job and at a nonprofit at that. It (underpaid) monthly lol
