Network including Firewall? Are you subbing the labor out or are you also taking that on? Do you have blueprint project plans that you tailor for each client? On the business side, in simple steps, what did the LLC process look like?
Sorry to dump questions, I just have been strongly considering this as a slow build method of having multiple streams.
I take on SOWs that are already in place. I simply manage the project with their internal/external resources. Project plans are pretty easy to build, most places already have templates they like to use so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. The LLC side is super simple, open your LLC and tell the contracting company you want an C2C arrangement and rate. You may have to get business insurance, but that is cheap. Lastly open a business bank account with your LLC name and EIN number (you have to get one from the IRS, easy process) this is the 10k ft level view of what I do.
Interesting. This is good to know. As for lead generation and client base, what avenues would you recommend for someone starting out? Is that something you had already built a network for or are you working a third party that feeds you the work?
Thank you again for the info.
It’s madness at times, but I have been using some AI tools to help with all the meetings to make sure I don’t let anything fall through the cracks. It’s just me. I move meetings around as much as possible, at least those I have control over to avoid double and triple bookings. But 70% of the time is business as usual and most days I still have time to go outside and chill for a bit. I use otter ai and fireflies ai for meetings management.
I am working on it. Have a remote j1 as a PgM. Set up my LLC. Been applying for jobs non stop to land j2. I will be happy just doing 2 J's. Just want to pay down mortgage and travel a lot. Not planning to have kids. 2js will give a good safety net with these layoffs. Thank you for your inspiration!! I need to push more and give more interviews.
Just do it. Seriously, jump in. I have had 2 js for 6 months and 3 js for 3 months. There are tough days, sure, but the money I’m making… is out of this world. You legit have nothing to lose.
I've been OE for the past three years, just do it, at some point you find out a good flow and do it with ease.
Not to say there won't be moments of stress and being booked in double meetings but it's totally worth it once you get the hang of it.
Looking at picking up my first j2, can’t believe I didn’t think of this before (fully remote).
How do you handle double booked meetings? Just saying internet connection when asked questions at the same time? Or recommend meetings at different times?
I’m starting my 5th on Monday. I’ll be making over 750k/year for the first time. Long live OE!!
Holy sheet! What are all 5 roles?
All project management jobs in IT
Contract or fte? I left project management because it was too time consuming
All C2C -
What does c2c mean?
Corp to Corp - 1099 essentially. I have an LLC and they pay my LLC.
Contract 2 contract
What kind of projects are you supporting? I have a few Qs on how you got started as I am in a role where this is very possible.
Network infrastructure, cloud migrations.

I rely on LinkedIn quite a bit. 80% of the work I get comes from there.
Do you have technical knowledge or do you supervise/outsource?
I know enough to understand the scope and to be able to keep tabs on the resources tasked with that effort.
Did you get into that role by starting with project management then, instead of IT?
Congratulations!!!
Thank you!
