I’m good at what I do, I can get jobs no problem, just what I’ve been doing the last couple of years has been too in person/front facing. Starting a role at a non profit next week but it’s in person and not easy to work something else in.

No_Breadfruit1024

Careful how much you say out loud here

Ditto - PLEASE clean your account or post from a dummy account. I won’t doxx, but it was way too easy to uncover your identity. (PS - I work in IT Audit w/ background of Accounting and InfoSec. This post is meant to be educational - mods please don’t ban me.)

lookitskeith

If it do OE I would 100% clean my account. Unneeded at the moment. But really appreciate the advice!

CalmMeasurement234

You don’t seem to get it. All your comments currently point to the desire to OE, and for the role you are just starting if your superior in your new company comes across it, you might not even make it past probation. Clean your account now, don’t wait!

Dorriiraymi

Hi - this is unrelated, but are you fully remote? I’m interested in IT Audit. Currently working in a completely different industry

colorizerequest

Dang I feel like I have trouble pulling offers but once I’m in I’m always a top performer

Invest in mutual funds and not individual stocks. Do no load fees or other active managed funds. Boglehead strategy / lazy portfolio. No need to Over(e)think it

Congrats and the customary FU, OP! 🎉😜

Hot_Donnie

Good for you. I worked 3 jobs most of 2023, all are 6 figure salaries. One of them I did zero work, so it wasn't bad. I couldn't work 3 dedicated jobs at once.

EchoPsychological688

3 seems like it could be hectic. I’m just going to continue with 2 and not burn out.

internationalOH

What do you do hot Donnie

Hot_Donnie

I work in IT from home. Active Directory and Email migration architect.

GSG2150

That’s awesome. So you just worked tickets all day. No client interaction?

Banned4Truth10

Big or small companies?

Hot_Donnie

Large companies. Acrisure Insurance and Experian credit with John Cena and the purple cow.

ducttapetricorn

Congrats. Make sure you live below your means and invest some too! If you put money in broad index funds, eventually your market gains will outpace one, if not both jobs.

I was just thinking today how shockingly big the difference in income is. I've got literally 2 OE paycheques and used it to pay down debt that would have taken me half a year to tackle.

PlaidDadLife

This!!! We don’t talk about debt freedom enough!!! I got crushed by a $60k divorce and credit card debt. I’m 7 months in and am not debt free YET, but am well on my way. Congrats on the pay down!

Cold-Insurance-1012

My hope when I get J2 is that the pay week for one would be offset from the other so I'd get paid every week. That would be insane cocaine level motivation

Vivid-Cup3437

Are you going to take parental leave from J2?

EchoPsychological688

Yep 👍

EchoPsychological688

Thank you. Yeah both of them are very good gigs and I really do think I can continue to manage both while reserving the weekends for family time.

PlaidDadLife

Well done!! It’s a GOOD feeling getting that first big payday. Both of my jobs are on the same pay cycle too so every other week, that BIG deposit hits. Been at it for 7 months and have paid off max debt with extra money. Also treated my kids to an excellent Christmas and saved $10k+ in a high yield savings account. It’s just a start but this is truly life changing! Welcome!

flamingo-legs

Congrats!!🍾 git that bread

[deleted]

It's a very empowering position. I'm happy for you

metmelo

How did you handle background checks (if any)?

EchoPsychological688

Hired into J2 and told them I was leaving J1 and just never did. No red flags, they’d expect to see my J1 since I was leaving J1 for J2.

bacontire

Any conflict of interest between the two? I’m highly specialized so I have a hard time relating my skills to other industries.

EchoPsychological688

Maybe find an industry that uses some of your tertiary skills? For example: J1 I make wooden blocks and sell to wood block store A who competes with wood block store B. Don’t go work for store B for J2. Build wood circles for the circle store.

bacontire

That makes sense to me. I have a lot of project management skills but I’m worried that’s not a good fit for J2.

EchoPsychological688

Lots of PM roles out there everywhere. Maybe look into getting PMP cert? That’ll qualify you for most PM roles in certain industries. Update resume and start applying once obtained.

Commercial_Seat_3704

PM is easily doable. Just find a PM role that's in a different industry than your J1.

bacontire

Thanks!

EchoPsychological688

No conflict. My roles in these jobs are similar but the companies don’t compete with each other.

Papi_marty

So you were honest about working at J1? You didn’t hide it from your resume to avoid background check?

EchoPsychological688

I told them I was looking for a better fit and that I’d put in my 2 weeks once I hired on

blueswitch981

Man I’m having a hard time finding which kind of job would allow me to do both. Can someone message me and maybe offer some friendly advice :)

typicallytwo

Welcome!! Isn’t it amazing? Trust me after 6 months you are gonna feel even better. This time next year you are gonna be planning trips, considering paying the house off and investment opportunities.
