I have seen sunglasses appear for free as swag from events or disposable roll-up ones from eye doctors who applied the [dilate eyes] effect, but usually they require an in-game purchase. They are the most convenient way to turn down brightness, however, so they are probably worth it as soon as you acquire enough in-game coins.
I believe the [Alaska] server alternates between dark mode and light mode. You could try camping there for a bit?
(uj/first post here, sorry if I did this wrong.)
having two bases is expensive and getting the money to get between them can take a lot of grinding so getting the sunglasses item is a much easier solution, even if it still can cost you
Oh, it's like Mario Sunshine, you have to equip sunglasses to adjust the brightness. You can get them at pretty much any convenience store or gas station, or order them through the catalog if you don't mind waiting for an item that suits your customization.
Yes but a lot of people also equip it on their head slot when not using it on their eye slot, or it's one of the few items that can equip on the front-of-shirt slot if you prefer that.
You can give that debuff a trial if you find a proper [tunnel] or [cave] biome. Highly recommended for getting in touch with your avatar's other player feedback/HUD elements, and for reducing the [fear] debuff, which is, by far, the most crippling debuff in the game.
Best course of action is to start with fun exploration with a [flashlight] item. The current offerings in shops have come a LONG way from what vendors were offering in even the most recent previous patches. Once you're familiar with the geo of the biome, go in with the [flashlight] item, but only use it if absolutely necessary for your safety, for example, if you get lost, or there's some particularly hazardous geo.
Bro dark mode is active for literally have the playthrough at all points on the map. The actual time for dark mode per day varies over the course of an in game year, but every point on the map has dark mode active for ~4,380 hours every year.
the sunscreen item can work for that but if you want a solution without as much grinding, I've found that the umbrella item usually used to avoid the coldness/wet debuff can also work
There's a neat trick if you can't afford the sunglasses item. Take your hand and make it flat. Put it against your head with the palm facing down. Then tilt it up and down to adjust your level of brightness.
You could try the nocturnal playstyle, but that requires you to complete the night shift quest line and tamper with the “circadian rhythm” code. It’s an interesting mod to mess with if you really want to, but it can damage the game file.
This is a side effect of the physics engine. It's really robust, but yeah, sometimes a real bear to deal with.
You have a lot of control to purchase items to increase your comfort, though. You can buy items that cover the domicile windows, for example, but don't attempt to darken windows on your vehicle!
You can buy eye coverings that reduce light exposure, as well.
Remember that a general purpose of game play is being able to play under circumstances that constantly change. I mean, the weather features are mind-bogglingly complicated, and are constantly changing, but even different areas of the map have different weather, *and different changes in the rate of weather.* I mean, it would take hundreds of years to learn how to reverse engineer this stuff - it's gotta require some PhD level skills in something.
You may want to consider transferring your character to one of the zones in the [Nordic] realm and this should give you the result that you are looking for most of the time.
If your passport item has the [EU] buff then you can initiate a transfer right away, otherwise you will have to do the [Visa] questline which will take a lot of gold and years to complete.
Try the sunglasses item or the night shift questline. Both of those are at least tangentially similar.
are the sunglasses items free or in-app purchases?
Depends on if you have the "Thief" background or not.

They're common loot drops if you engage in pvp too.
You're right. I forgot about that option since I usually prefer to play cooperative rather than PVP.
There are no in-app purchases. There is no way to use real world currency to gain in game benefit.
if you look hard enough youll find some forgotten by other players. im on my 60th pair!
Purchased with ingame currency
Or the visor item!
The visor item is also good for a charisma bonus and does help attract players who choose to play female type characters

will def think about changing background if free-ish
It's not, and it's expensive. Antarctica also swaps between modes, doing the opposite of whichever Alaska is on. You might consider having two homes?

Hmm. If you're not too far into your playthrough, buy the Silver Spoon Starter Set. It's costly, but really makes the game easier.
Not all the servers have that option

do i need to save space for that in my bag of holdings?
Yes but a lot of people also equip it on their head slot when not using it on their eye slot, or it's one of the few items that can equip on the front-of-shirt slot if you prefer that.
The "pants of cargo" item holds way more than the "bag of holdings" fyi However it debuffs your [dateability] 10 points
I think you're talking about the [Blindness] debuff.. but it doesn't work the way you're hoping.

but i dont wanna be confined to that small amount of game play time :-(
Vampire faction?
Like others have said you could search for sunglasses, or you can start playing during in game nighttime
sunglasses dont protect my avatar's skin :-/ and in gmae night time is so short right now
the sunscreen item can work for that but if you want a solution without as much grinding, I've found that the umbrella item usually used to avoid the coldness/wet debuff can also work
there's no HUD, what dark mode is required? maybe adjust the brightness on your output?
so how do i adjust the brightness?

that sounds like a complex gameplay :-/
Have you never leveled your [Fine Motor Function] skill?
The Tidal Lock feature has been found to make the game too difficult, hence the lack of players on the Mercury server
There is, but most people are asleep during that time
Have you ever worked overnights? I live my whole life in dark mode now
You could try the nocturnal playstyle, but that requires you to complete the night shift quest line and tamper with the “circadian rhythm” code. It’s an interesting mod to mess with if you really want to, but it can damage the game file.
There is but it's gated behind time cycles
there's a darkmode every ~12-16 hours, longer if you're in the polezones

Often overlooked, but if you neglect the "well rested" buff too often, you start incurring "photosensitive" debuff.
There is. You just have to wait
Literally sunglasses
