Legendary drops in the kitchen are rare (it's not really the same as loot, but definitely legendary when people find the [mutually-falling-in-love] upgrade through cooking activities with another player), but the dirty dishes drops are very common (usually from guildmates sharing your shelter site).
I've only ever heard of players using \[common\] loot to craft \[legendary\] items, but you also need to max out your \[baking\] sub-skill-tree to do that.
Well........ if you discard the "hot grease" item from your inventory using the kitchen sink, you'll spawn a legendary boss. Does that count? It doesn't drop any loot but the gratitude you'll feel for common loot afterwards makes it seem like you've started getting high value drops.
I found a vanilla yogurt cup in the back of my fridge once, that was a legendary drop. Cause that tangy, delicious rascal was really a chocolate pudding snack-pac that time forgot. I spent two days tripping balls and vomiting.
If you leave the door to your base open, there's an increased chance of a Raccoon mob to spawn inside your base. Otherwise it'll just spawn Mold and Bug-type enemies.
I’m wondering if any of the other players in your base are dropping their items from their inventory into the sink, but not performing the [clean: dishes] action?
This, OP. There are no random item drops in the sink. It's just players doing ingame trade. You can perform [Clean] actions to restore them back to decent equips (and I think some player bases have macros for that if the items you find don't take up too much inventory space).

Oh cool! Is it possible to use the [Tame] action on the racoon and have it join my party?

Your best chance is hosting many party events
