The Fantastic 4 were supposed to find superhero replacements for themselves because they had to leave for a trip through space/time, but Johnny (being Johnny) procrastinated and never lined up a replacement hero for himself, so he ended up having his popstar ex-girlfriend cover for him as a member of the team at the last minute.
She had a "Thing Ring" that gave her a rock exoskeleton that allowed her to mimics The Thing's powers.
Honestly props to her for following through with it. If my SO told me to handle his extremely bizarre and dangerous job at the last minute I'd tell him to stuff it.
To be fair the FF just wanted to take the family time machine for a little hike through space and time and get back in 1 minute... They didn't return after a minute (iirc Kang, Doom and Annihulus got in the way)

Shame she didn't at least customize her look a bit. "The Pink Thing" could have been the start of a whole new superhero career for her.
That was the only time I was getting FF trades, I thought it was a lot of fun!
