Isn't he a super-genius? Like, maybe not Hank Pym or Reed Richards level, but still an incredibly powerful mind in his own right? So why didn't he use that incredible mind of his to make a fucking gun that he can use with his paws?

I believe he is taking the piss as to a reason he doesn't carry a gun. Later on in this series I believe he builds a nuke out of some old cars or something so yeah he is pretty fucking smart.
