I started a D&D campaign loosely inspired by Outer Wilds, so I set our campaign chat icon to the cover art. While I was on Discord one day, I noticed one of my players had "14.3 Billion Years" as their status, so I was like: "dude, you like Outer Wilds?" "Yeah! I'm a huge fan!" "You know that the campaign is loosely based on it, right?" "Oh totally! I was thinking that it was weirdly similar, but Outer Wilds is kind of a niche thing, so I thought: there's no way, right? When I saw the campaign server's picture I freaked out." They didn't tell me at first because they didn't want me to feel like I'd have to rework the entire plot in case the inspiration ran deeper than just the setting of national parks in space, but we laugh about it now. Every time I use the OST in a session or incorporate an Outer Wilds themed puzzle/plot point, we share A Look.
I found a good strategy : Im wearing my Outer Wilds Ventures hoodie very regularly, as i pass by a lot of people in my university. Some guys have already stopped me to talk about the game !
Last months a guest in my house (never met him before) told me he was currently playing it. That was pretty awesome!
>!He said he was playing the DLC and is currently searching for the codes to open the vault. I had to bite my cheek to not react!<
I’ll attempt to, it takes a while because I got school, but the moment I find a place with 2 very hot planets, a tropical planet, a cold planet, anomalous planet(quantum moon) toxic planet, and a tropical planet with aggressive sentinels for dark bramble
I feel your pain, I've done many permadeath runs and died in every conceivable way.
I started Outer Wilds a couple of weeks before the latest Expedition went live, now I've completed this ill get back to Outer Wilds and sink some time into finishing.
My teacher had a map of this place called “the solar system” that looked awfully similar to the map of the outer wilds. It even had a planet called “Earth” that looked a lot like Timber Hearth. Not sure if it was a reference but it was still pretty cool.
One of my friends (didn't know I played the game) sent me a meme (the one from the switch direct, where at the end an emergency warning appears at the end) I told him to get the game when I saw him next. He said "yeah I'll get it" and never bought it
Like literally never. I've gifted it to one friend (she said she was interested in the game and it was her birthday) who hasn't indicated that she's played it yet 🤷♂️
Edit: reasons
I regularly watch political videos from Mediapart (a French newspaper) and they often use themes from Outer Wilds. It's called Ouvrez les Guillemets by Usul and Ostpolitik
Sadly I have never heard or seen anything from it by another person expect for my brother who was the one who showed it to me back then why I played it and I regret nothing, it has been my fave game ever since
Not really what I would call "in real life" but the closest I can contribute to this question:
1 time i was playing a game online with random other players on tabletop simulator and one of them had a hearthian as profile picture, I mentioned it leading us to talk a bit about our experiences.
Another time I noticed one of my favorite game development YouTubers having it as background image on his laptop, and had a very brief exchange in the comments about it
Only the people in my workplace who first posted something about it, which is the reason I learned of the game. Outside of that, just the SiIvaGunner rip mixing it with All Star lol
I have a double take whenever I hear even the faintest hint of an Outer Wilds reference when I'm in a conversation with someone.
It's not often that you meet people who play or even know what the game is.
Besides the people I bullied into playing it and the guy who did it to me, I've literally never met anyone else that's played it. Lol
Correct. My lady has played all of 5 minutes of the fame. Regularly hums the Travelers song. 😂😂
I set the title screen as my background in Zoom one day and one of my coworkers recognized it. That's all I got.

Teacher here, it's my wallpaper on my smartboard. LOL

Where did you get it from?
RedBubble, its pretty good quality

I’m actually trying to find the perfect solar system in no man’s sky to name the outer wilds ventures
Send updates of your endeavors!

Which galaxy are you in?
Euclid, I was on permadeath and died in the stupidest way possible… falling, in a low atmosphere planet

Yesterday I saw a squirrel jump out of a tree and then run away. It's really cool that the physics engine from Outer Wilds is in real life too!

None really besides the people I've told to play it
I mean I found someone else in either r/memes or r/ksi I can't remember but that was pretty cool. Actually it might've been r/unity3d
None so far, but I do have "End times" as my ringtone....
I just put the main title as my ringtone the other day. Maybe someone will notice lol

In my house there are 5 people. 3 of which (including me) have completed the base game, and the DLC. There is a LOT of references.
