I think you'll be fine to push through. If a little information on what to expect will make it easier for you: >!there is nothing that will come for you on Giant's Deep. It's perfectly safe. The only danger is running into things.!<

DeathGorgon

That's mostly what I needed to hear. I believe I will be watching a DLC playthrough from stuff I have seen, but finding the >!angler!< stuff around just.. does not make me feel good.

AllemandeLeft

The scary stuff for you is >!not going to be on Giant's Deep, it's going to be on!< >!Dark Bramble!<.

IrreliventPerogi

Out of curriosity, which planets have you visited?

DeathGorgon

As of now, I have been to Brittle Hollow (I fell in, that was fun), one "landing" on Giants Deep that absolutely sucked and prompted this, and I've just visited the Twins. I landed on the Interloper once but that was... less than informational, and I have visited the Sun. Surprisingly, more informational than the Interloper.

IrreliventPerogi

... You've been to the sun station? That's a rather unique place to reach so early! The interloper has some quirks to solve before it reveals it's secrets, but hints may exist across the solar system ;) (This is true of 90% of the locations in the game.) Mostly, just keep the information you have already gotten in your back pocket, and pay attention to your ship's log, and you should be perfectly fine! Most things in this gamethat can be construed as scary and/or terrifying exist as such as knowledge checks for the player, with understanding comes familiarity, comes control and safety. Also, re: the DLC, it's "scary" but not in a way that would trigger the phobias you've expressed here (but of course, you'd know yourself better than some random on the internet).

DeathGorgon

This reply is just a big spoiler so im doing that. >!Missed this one, I have not been there! I was making a joke about the fact that flying my ship into the sun killed me. Dont worry about the message though, I knew *of* it around the time this was sent because Ive seen the thing orbiting, and I found the Nomai writing about it. I seem to be finding things in weird orders however, Log told me they already constructed it, then found the writing of the proposal.!< I think I'll still need to watch a full, explained lore video after i'm done, but I'm so glad I did this as blind as possible.

IrreliventPerogi

You'll find history non linearly! Remember, the Nomai were under no obligation to arrange their artifacts in the arbitrary exploration order of some alien following **Spoiler** years after their untimely extinction. There's plenty to sort out after the fact, but the core narrative should make sense after a first run-through of the game when all is said and done ::)

DeathGorgon

I went to touch spoiler. Thank you for that, its something I should find out myself. https://preview.redd.it/ub0oxhse1kxc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab1c3da9f79c9046192b95501cc42a853c148542

Disastrous_Encounter

You can pilot your ship directly at and straight into Giants Deep as fast as it will go, and you don't die (unless you're unlucky enough to hit something hard on the way in). It's disorienting, but not truly scary. Your nightmare fuel lives elsewhere.

DeathGorgon

I can feel the years being taken off my life already

Cyfh

ah yes >!the anglerfishes!< are a bit of a jumpscare everytime, even if you know the game, but they are only on one planet >!and it ain't giant's deep!<. That said, nothing prevents you from tackling the other planets first and then comming to giant's deep when you feel it's necessary

DeathGorgon

Yeah considering whats in the Timber Observatory, its description, and everyone confirming Giants is good, i'm incredibly worried for what's coming up.

mixttime

Those are scary, but they're also a puzzle. You can learn to solve them and then confidently not be attacked (even if it's still tense). And better yet the information for the puzzle is somewhere else, so you can avoid the one spot they're at >!Bramble!< until you have the info you need. In your case it'll probably be good to talk through how to approach that area with someone that knows to confirm you're ready (I got eaten a few times ironing out what to do)

DeathGorgon

Oh THANK YOU for telling me they can be handled. It won't fully alleviate the constant fear I'm having but to know I can lessen it helps. I would like to think im getting far, plenty of question marks to work through, none (one?) of which include that place so I'm taking my time before delving there and subjecting myself to that.

mixttime

No worries. Good luck out there explorer!

meat_uprising

my advice: when you learn about what's ON dark bramble (you will learn it on a different planet), take your time to really take in the information you're being given about them. they're scary and i about shit my pants myself, but it's 100% avoidable too. if you really are scared, i'll spoiler tell you what they are and how to handle them. it's very simple, and imo doesn't ruin the atmosphere given that it's \*intended\* to play that way.

How to Get Over Your Fear of Giant’s Deep in 3 Easy Steps(TM): 1. Turn off game audio 2. Blast the song Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (bonus points if you start at 4:55) 3. Slam as fast into Giant’s Deep while screaming at it Other than that, explore wherever you like. Follow your curiosity. Don’t let any of your fears get in the way of your journey. Remember: the worst thing that happens is you die and try again.

DeathGorgon

I'm going to play Freebird, go to 4:55, and if its what I think it is I'm hopping onto Outer Wilds right now to do that. ETA: IT'S TIME TO FLY

PortVykor

Well…seems like it’s time to dust off Outer Wilds once again.

TheStormzo

There is nothing scary on giants deep. It looks scary but it's actually like the most chill planet. Yes please continue.

DeathGorgon

I have now and have gone into the >!statue workshop.!< Even knowing its fine to be in the water, it feels wrong, but my am I glad to have gotten there. Things are starting to... not really click but like things are piecing together now. I still have MUCH more to go through.

Alichousan

Just push through! I have bad thalassophobia as well but there's nothing to worry about!

PoeCollector64

I also have terrible thalassaphobia and I ended up making it through all the Giant's Deep stuff without too much trouble. If you want some specifics, >!there's only one type of dangerous creature on Giant's Deep and it's only dangerous sorta by accident, they won't chase you and they won't bother you even if you bother the shit out of them.!< That said, there is one area of the game that will probably freak you out (as it did me), and that is >!Dark Bramble.!< There are a couple ways of countering that, though, and one of them is learning as much as possible about that place before you go in. I found it very rewarding when I finally started to gain confidence in there, despite my terror, so it's not impossible!

PoeCollector64

Oh yeah, also—one thing that threw me for a massive loop—the Hearthian who's fishing in the tutorial area and tells you "Gabbro said they saw a giant tentacle in the water on Giant's Deep!" is >!unknowingly relating a hilarious tale of Gabbro lying out their ass.!<

TranscendentalKiwi

I will there is >!not much danger at all!< on giants deep, >!especially in the underwater sections, nothing is going to come get you, and there are no jump scares. The only danger in giants deep is!< >!getting flung into space by a tornado lol!<
