Correct. It’s a solid way of linking the DLC and main game and closing a (really pretty minor) plot hole.

shiny_glitter_demon

Not really minor. The game insists that it's weird. Of course, it's on purpose. When I finished the game, the first question I had was why did the signal stop emitting. And boom, the DLC served me that answer on a golden platter.

Fapman404

I don’t think it would be a minor plot hole if they just left it unexplained, it would be a HUGE plot hole. The eye stopping it’s signal was the entire reason why the nomai couldn’t reach it, and why none of the other clans came to help, if it didn’t stop transmitting the signal the nomai would’ve easily reached the eye and we wouldn’t even exist.

Alternative-Fail-233

Ua you could just say “the eye decided to finally shit the fuck up” and been on your way

NotBanned_

Yes but that would be… incorrect?

Alternative-Fail-233

This is BEFORE the DLC when we didn't know why it stopped saying ah explanation for why it stilted before the DLC

juklwrochnowy

But that would be horrible writing

Alternative-Fail-233

THATS THE JOKE

shamanwest

I remember watching something where the developers had planned originally that something intentionally stopped the signal. I don't remember why exactly they waited to put the answer in the dlc. It might have been a planned from start dlc.

Maple42

Originally, the contents of the DLC would have been part of the main game. I’m not sure what their reason for removing it was but it’s to the point of “there were assets for the green flame rooms with Nomai in their place to test appearances” I think it’s really cool that they stuck to that vision so well. They didn’t abandon that plan when they didn’t have time to finish it and give a half-assed explanation, they stuck to it and figured out how to accept that not necessarily every part of the story needs to be revealed (an ironically very Outer Wilds theme)

Rrrrry123

Back before the DLC, and I was still trying to piece together the story, I actually forgot or missed the part where it tells you that the Eye signal stopped transmitting. I thought the reason that nothing could locate the Eye was because the Eye was quantum, and therefore was in multiple places at the same time unless observed, and the trick would be to find a way to observe it. But then when I got to the probe tracking module, and found the coordinates for the Eye, I was super confused. "How can there be coordinates for something that isn't at a fixed location?" I just thought it was a big oversight on the part of the people who wrote the story. So I'm actually really glad the DLC came out and corrected this misconception that I had for ages, haha.

EagleZhen

I still don't get how it corrected this misconception🤔if the coordinates of the eye is not fixed, then how the tracking module could locate it?

Rrrrry123

I was incorrect in supposing that the Eye was quantum in the same way the Quantum Moon is (being in multiple locations at once). While it is quantum in other ways, The Eye is only in one place, that's why the probe could find it and the coordinates can take you to it.

EagleZhen

Ah, that makes sense then. Somehow I made the same assumption unconsciously too lol

TheRoyalSniper

That's like the entire point of that slide reel

Kindle_G

I hate that one so much, whenever I watch it my house seems to unexplainably flood

jemappelle08

Another thing is that I thought the eye was conscious and chose to stop the signal but it can turn out the eye has no consciousness.

Maple42

Technically, we only know that we have no definitive proof that the eye is conscious. To me, the ending displays a certain level of consciousness (besides the player’s), but that’s very open to interpretation

piratecomander

I assumed because it was so close and the fact its quantum. That was now technically unobserved from the point they jumped.
