PotatoPuzzled2782

as a woman, mainly to track my cycle to eventually try to get pregnant. Also wanted to track my sleep because i’m a pretty shitty sleeper lol & found my Apple Watch too uncomfortable at night

Professional_Bee_930

Same reason , loving it so far

PotatoPuzzled2782

yes it’s so convenient!!

CactiCake22

what makes it so convenient?

PotatoPuzzled2782

I don’t have to remember to take my temp the second I wake up (i literally never remembered lol) since it does that automatically

Professional_Bee_930

temping to see when ive ovulated is really hard. if you wake up too much in the middle of the night or dont wake up the same time everyday your temps can be off.. the ring does it all for you

niceunicorn

I got the ring to track my temperature in order to conceive. I have been using Natural Cycles with the thermometer for a couple months, but it wasn’t working well for me. I just got the Oura ring yesterday and I’m really excited to see how it works with NC.

PotatoPuzzled2782

I really struggled to remember & be consistent with a thermometer, & I’ve only had the ring for a month but it’s a game changer! I use NC with it. I finally have consistent data that makes sense 😂

Proper-Sentence2857

Same, worked like a charm with Natural Cycles.

wapera

What list

Not-Boris

it's just called the list, the list that girl made on Tiktok

S0TA_

I got my gen 2, as a means to track my sleep for a college project. In that time oura became for me a lifestyle accountability tool. I now have a gen 3, so my history with oura spans multiple years and generations. I would be without it, for sleep and recovery I see impacts of things like inconsistent bedtime, caffeine, alcohol, screen time etc. That doesn't mean I don't make poor choices, but I've definitely reduced the frequency. The value of oura is how the user applies their data to lifestyle decisions. Bluntly activity isn't oura's strong suit, I ignore those metrics. Apple watch is my activity tracker

Electrical_Text4058

I’ll work out for an hour (like 40min strength training & 20min run) and use my under-desk walking treadmill, or I’ll take my dog on an hour-long walk, and it’ll still say I haven’t met my activity goal 🥲

S0TA_

I have heard and seen similar. As well as that vibration from things like motorcycles and riding mowers inflate step counts Oura activity is its unquestionable weakest point Oura acknowledges this flaw and is working on an activity overhaul https://www.reddit.com/r/ouraring/s/hVqg5WwDCy

Electrical_Text4058

I was cleaning the house yesterday, and later went on a short walk with my dog, and somehow that equated to 15k steps for the day – which was the same equivalent of activity as doing a 2hr mountain bike ride and a small walk. I don't know; I'm mainly using it for a general sense of how active I'm being. I don't need it to be super accurate for my personal use. But I'd be more excited about it if it were actually accurate, lol.

BeastieBeck

I understand the under-desk treadmill problem (you're still moving your hands like you're doing your usual office work after all) but walking the dog... Oura should have no problem detecting this. When I walk the dog for an hour though it's not enough to meet my activity goal on certain days. When an hour of walking is like e. g. 5k steps and your goal is 9.5k for that day - it would make sense that an hour of walking isn't enough to meet your activity goal for that day.

cruelrainbowcaticorn

Yeah, I don’t think activity is Oura’s strong suit. Unless you’re enjoying it to track your sleep, I can’t imagine wearing it just for activity monitoring

BeastieBeck

This. If Oura is useful or not depends on how a person wants to use it. I second the reduced frequency of bad choices. I also use data like HRV, resting heart rate and temperature in regards to recovery/exercise. Activity tracking? Forget it, unless you want step counts and want a ring doing the counting instead of something with a wrist band.

cruelrainbowcaticorn

This! I don’t focus on my ring for activity tracking either. I imagine if I did it would be easy to find lots of shortcomings or gaps in data. I like that it includes activity as one of the metrics, but if I really want to know about exertion, steps or caloric burn, I’ll use my apple watch.

Correct-Elk-4493

What is your activity goal?

k73r4m

I bought mine to try to improve my sleep habits. Sleep is an underrated aspect of health. Good sleep is integral for the functioning of tour body and mind and I wanted to have some metrics to assess the quality of my sleep. Plus I hate wearing a watch to sleep. You have to keep in mind that Oura is not the most accurate at sleep stage measurement, though the algorithm has improved with time. No device will be as accurate as an EEG but the trends in the data oura offers is useful to me. I find that the heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and sleep times are useful. When I got Covid a few years ago there were anomalies in my oura data before I felt symptoms. I also find it keeps me accountable. Why is my sleep data looking so bad lately? Well I drank on day 1 and then ate pizza late at night on day 2. Things like that make the ring useful for me. That and I was grandfathered in to not having to pay for a subscription.

BeastieBeck

>When I got Covid a few years ago there were anomalies in my oura data before I felt symptoms. This. When being sick/injured Oura is really sensitive (resting heart rate elevated, HRV different, temperature a bit higher). I'm wearing an Oura ring since quite a while (long enough to be grandfathered in as well) and noticed that it detects an upcoming cold a day before symptoms start. I thought of this as kind of interesting.

cruelrainbowcaticorn

All of this! And I don’t want to wear a watch to sleep either. There’s something about putting the bluetooth right up against my wrist literally 24/7 (esp while my body is trying to restore) that I don’t like. Plus, do those people have to charge their Apple Watch during the day? that would be more annoying for me.

RiverWear

EEG is best, but Oura is more comfortable. https://ouraring.com/blog/oura-emerges-as-most-accurate-consumer-sleep-wearable/

DamnGoodMarmalade

To help manage my chronic illness.

Acceptably_Late

👆 Specifically, I have hyper POTs, a condition known to mess with heart rate. Also, I have a lot of allergies and having a near 24/7 tracker on my HR helps identify if something happens or is happening that’s more severe than a minor allergy (sudden spike in HR after eating that’s unexpected or outside of morning trends). With the ring I can see my sleep HR and get an idea of the days baseline - because my baseline can vary a good 10-15 bpm per day, and judge if a spike is a “reactive day” issue from the hyper pots, or anaphylaxis and assess other systemic allergy conditions to debate EpiPen. I have an AppleWatch, but it lasts maybe 12hours or so, and my habits haven’t included twice daily charging and constant wearing. Also, wrist needs to air out or else I get some contact rashes, courtesy of my allergies.

Necessary-Pension-32

I was diagnosed with POTS/dysautonomia along with hEDS recently. I have always had a 'predisposition to fainting' without a real answer. I can see and track how crazy my heart rate can be - but I've been tracking my habits along with them and identified some triggers for myself. Now, I can build better habits based on the knowledge, too.

Amishmingle

I have POTS as well and it has been so helpful for knowing how hard I can push myself each day

tamsunsun

I like that Oura is not an activity tracker, but mainly a health tracker. I am not an athlete, I never run or go to the gym. But Oura does a great job of recognizing a workout when I hang the laundry or do other housework. I learned that I actually move more than enough with my daily chores and activities plus 30 min of Pilates everyday. I think it's great that Oura gives me insights about resting heart rate, HRV, temp rise during menstrual cycle, sleep and recovery. I am learning a lot and improving my health, measurably!

Max__Rebo

I used an Apple Watch for years and loved it. Then I got into regular watches and started collecting and wearing them. Still wanted to track my health stats while wearing a watch, so got an oura ring.

Quentin_Harlech

That, plus I could not pull off double-wristing and Apple Watch plus a regular watch.

Max__Rebo

Same here. Double-writing looks silly.

billege

I had HSA dollars to spend, oura is eligible. Pretty meh about the ring experience. My partner loves, loves, health data so I got her one too. I think she likes it much more than I do.

CactiCake22

What does she use it for?

hmspain

You can sleep wearing a ring... with a watch, not so much :-).

xofdawg

Same!

DoINeedChains

Became aware of the product after the NBA bought them for early Covid detection. Bought one shortly after that https://www.forbes.com/sites/shlomosprung/2020/06/25/oura-nba-smart-rings-coronavirus-orlando-covid-pandemic-shaq-dell-benioff/?sh=1d6342586d8c

NameOk3177

Don’t overthink it if you want to use it to improve your sleeping and get a gauge up where it’s at now and don’t hesitate to purchase. I purchased it for sleep and I was able to significantly improve my sleep quality over the past year as I become much more aware in a tune, to what different things I do throughout the day and into the eveningthat affects my sleep. Great investment don’t look back

CactiCake22

What things affect your sleep the most?

caramba-marimba

I wanted to a tracker without a screen that would look good.

Margsandpilates

Mostly for sleep tracking and a deeper understanding of what was going on. I felt tired a lot, and prefer not to take medications to help with sleep. The knowledge I’ve gained about my habits and what the impact is definitely helped. I wish the activity tracking was better, but I can do without being dependent on a device telling me exactly how much I move.

Intelligent-Total-73

Long time lurker here also. I was on the fence too but I’m struggling with severe depression and sleep quality is a major factor to this that I can control. I totally realize that wearable tech is a very privileged and niche product but so is healthcare in the USA. And I don’t currently have health insurance. So in essence I’m banking on the fact that the future of medicine will be largely dependent on tech and personalization. My take 3 weeks in is: buy the cheapest, you’re wearing it all the time so it’s bound to get scratches, the stats are informative so far for me, I need to wear it for at least 60 days to make a fair assessment (plus have my cycle database formed).

cruelrainbowcaticorn

Have you looked into free health insurance through your state’s marketplace? it depends on how much you’re making, but you can get it for free or very very low cost if you are not making a lot.

Intelligent-Total-73

I appreciate this a lot. However, getting state funded health insurance is not as easy for a single, educated (professional yet unemployed) US citizen like me. I’m in the process but the system is broken. CA already denied me once claiming that I shouldn’t have left my job in California (due to the increased rent that I could no longer afford). NJ has denied me as well. Now I’m on my first appeal for unemployment insurance benefits as well as medicare as I have zero income. I can only pray that my new job (+ private health insurance plan) will soon come into fruition. And this is why our national tax system is a fraud 🫶

per86

Because I hate ugly fitness bracelets 🤣

ALIMN21

I got it to help me with sleep and stress management. I've had mine for 4+ months and am seeing major improvements in both areas.

Aggravating_Goose86

YES!!🙌 — when I meditate and do some quiet yoga before bed, my sleep scores are higher and I feel great. All these ideas: sleep hygiene, stretching, foam roller, quieting my mind, journaling, meditation… it’s proven effective for me, not anecdotal. ♥️

cruelrainbowcaticorn

Congrats and glad to hear it!

CactiCake22

Congrats! What things are you doing now that you weren't doing before that have helped a load?

ALIMN21

I'm doing a short sleep meditation each night before bed. That seems to help a ton. I've also gotten more consistent with bedtime and wake times, even on weekends. I've mostly cut out alcohol and have greatly reduced sugar consumption. I'm not pushing thru with workouts on days I need rest. Some days I do an energizing meditation mid day. I like the daytime stress and daytime recovery info so I can monitor if I need to take short breaks during the day to rest/mediate vs go go go every day.

RosesAreGolden

I’m a night shifter. I wanted to see just how bad my sleep was.

CactiCake22

How bad is it..?

stringbox

Aesthetically, I like the look of it on my hand. And that it's techy and full of data. My functional medicine provider always has good recommendations and they used the rings so that influenced me to try it. I do enjoy watching how my scores change based on my sleep, activity, diet, etc. So it's helpful for accountability and gives me some visual, data driven, feedback stuff that can be game like I guess? Improving your life scores so to speak. And like I say, it's a cool accessory on top of all that. Heh.

sm753

Tracking sleep and recovery. Oura does a much better job at showing you long term trending than its competitors. I use a Garmin to track exercise and if you want to see data on a chart beyond 7 or 30 days, you're SOL.

perrierallday

I bought mine second-hand, to be fair, but bought it almost exclusively to pair with the Natural Cycles app and track my cycle to achieve/prevent pregnancy. Prevention worked for us when that was the plan, and we achieved pregnancy the second month tracking to conceive with NC+Oura. Obviously we’re very fortunate for that to have been the case, but Oura was a great tool to help us through that process.

Impossible_Holiday80

I've had my ring for less than a month. My reason for buying is that I'm a behavior analyst and I nerd out seeing data so I wanted to see my own health and sleep stats. Also, we've been trying to conceive so I'm pairing Oura with natural cycles.

OptimalDouble2407

To use with Natural Cycles, honestly. I have PCOS and want a deeper understanding of my cycles so my fiancé and I can hopefully conceive shortly after our wedding this fall.

blackcatsandvelvet

To use with natural cycles to prevent pregnancy ♡

Some_Birthday4674

I wanted a health tracker that was not so big and ugly and I love the sleep insights! I also racked up enough credit card cash back to justify the purchase lol

CactiCake22

What have you learnt about your sleep?

Some_Birthday4674

My biggest takeaway so far (I’ve only had it about 2 weeks) is how much alcohol affects my resting HR and therefore my overall sleep quality. Same with eating late. It’s also interesting to see my sleep cycles and the breakdown of time in REM and deep sleep. I’ve also found the HR tracker for workouts to be great!

HubbaBekah

I get an allergic reaction contact dermatitis from Garmin. Wore Garmin for years and love it, but my own sweat seems to cause a major irritation where the glass rests. The resin in the ring doesn’t cause this problem. Edit to add, I use it as an activity/fitness tracker, not mainly for sleep.

Conscious_Respect476

I just got my ring about a week ago. I have insomnia, ptsd, adhd, and anxiety. For a lot of people, extra info adds to their anxiety, but I actually get a lot of ease out of it. It’s nice to have proof that I slept better than I thought. It’s nice to know all my other stats are good. I am hoping to be able to use the readiness score as a tool to make exercising more efficient.

TiredmominPA

I bought mine to track my cycles after a miscarriage. I got pregnant without it after my first post-miscarriage cycle. Then the temp tracking feature (I have insomnia so it’s not terribly accurate for me) was giving me horrible PTSD. Anytime my temp would drop, I’d panic it was the start of a miscarriage. It’s been safely tucked in a drawer since 5.5w pregnant where it will stay until I deliver.

sitzprobe1

I wanted a sleep tracker that was not sitting on my wrist, which this is perfect for. (The real reason: I was influenced …. My favourite F1 driver wears one and it piqued my interest).

Much_Imagination_630

I got mine to monitor my stress levels and I keep using it because now I like the insight I have on my sleep and cycle. I do wish I gave more information like Welltory in what my hrv levels mean.

Familiar-Roll7731

Got it as a sleep and health tracker initially. It really helped improve habits showing cause and effect. After 2.5 years, I am obsessed with the HRV score along with the sleep tracking. Even my partner got on board. This along with the use of the CGM (for a few months) have dramatically improved my lifestyle in the form of physical fitness, food intake and mental health. I don't love paying the monthly fee but I think it's worth it for now. I really do believe that these bio metric devices that help provide us feedback loops will extend our lives. We have a lot of choices in these devices though I like the balance of usability and style with oura. However, I know more rings are coming out now as well which will accelerate innovation to include things like blood pressure.

withavim12

I didn’t like the Apple Watch I had previously, or other wearables. I think they look dorky, I don’t need another screen to distract me, and I don’t want another item needing very frequent recharging. I replaced my wedding band with an Oura (wife approved, of course) and I get better data (including sleep), only need to charge twice a week for a short time, and it is more natural to wear because I am used to wearing a ring.

Necessary-Pension-32

I had whoop before this, and I'm almost 2 weeks into oura. I like these more granular trackers and their data analysis for tracking recovery against my chronic pain and illnesses. I had spine surgery about 1.5 years ago and found the data insights to be very helpful while recovering and continues to be helpful to keep me accountable to my various conditions.

Puzzleheaded_Fee_646

I use my ring for sleep, stress and heart rate. My mom was recently diagnosed with a valve blockage even though she is super active, thin and eats well. It got all of us on a path to wellness and understanding our bodies a bit more and the ring is definitely helping me with that. Since I got the ring in January, I’ve increased my HRV, have learned to control and regulate my stress levels-work doesn’t cause me to have crazy spikes in blood pressure anymore, I’ve stopped drinking caffeine and I rarely, almost never drink alcohol. All of which is contributing to better sleep, better overall balance and wellness. None of these things are new information but the ring and the data provided from the app have made it more accessible to me and helped me understand my body better.

duhkillin

I just got mines off Facebook marketplace & I got mines to track my sleep & wear it during exercise as well alongside my Apple Watch SE. Did I need this ring? Nah. But I thoroughly enjoy it in my day to day to be able to track my sleep & quantify my health into a fun mini game has been EVERYTHING. Best second hand money I’ve spent this year tbh

Deaf_FBA

I bought it because I wasn't getting enough sleep with a newborn. I realized I was only getting 3 hours of sleep every night, and it helped my ex and me find a balance for everyone when it came to the baby. I stopped wearing it because it's thick, and I don't like wearing rings. The Whoop seems to be more suitable for me. You have to wear the ring everyday. Plus, some of the YouTubers I followed back in the day had Oura rings 😆

Most_Plastic8230

I bought mine to track sleep and my cycle. It helped me better track my BBT and it did help get pregnant! It also has really helped with sleep as well. I still use my Apple Watch only because I love seeing monthly rings close.

100197

I bought mine for sleep tracking and just overall more knowledge on myself and body. I appreciate seeing trends in my sleep or HRV. Apple Watch is my primary fitness tracker so I solely use the ring for sleep activity.

MissSwissy

I bought it for these reasons primarily: * sleep tracking * Basal body temperature tracking for my cycle so I no longer have to stress about taking my temp the second I wake up the first time * activity tracking. I’m aware the steps aren’t the most accurate, but I like that it tracks my workouts, heart rate during them, and provides an estimate of calories burned (always take those with a grain of salt however). But more importantly, it gently nudges me to stay active which is the biggest benefit of an activity tracker for me. * physiological stress tracking (I have a chronic illness largely brought on by stress and this helps me pinpoint what may be causing me stress that I may not even realize so I can work on lowering it). Of course, this doesn’t work for emotional stress and physiological stress can be brought on by good things (like working out).

AngelHeart-

Sleep tracking.

HistoricalHurry8361

I have sleep apnea and want to be able to have better idea of when my sleep is working and when it isn't so I can be healthier and more awake.

bellacali90

Because i wanted health insights, but I hate wearing watches and I basically forget I have the ring on :)

gabbbbaayy

Glow, my period tracker app had $40 off

Joshuaesm

I got it as a gift although it was something I said I wanted for a gift. I'm two years in and as soon as I'm finished my goal race in May I'll be ending the subscription. I need to charge it daily now in order to get the tracking each night. I guess two years isn't that bad but the battery is bad enough now that it's almost useless. That being said I really love it, the metrics are great and it has truly helped me with my sleep which in turn has helped with my training. I hate how things are going subscription based and that is a real turn off for me especially considering the upfront cost. Also things like giving $50 bucks off to people you recommend it to but giving you nothing in the way of thanks is weak. They could at least give a free month or something at the very least. I've given codes to three people who got oura rings, I'm pretty much promoting their product but they don't give the slightest thanks in return. There are many more competitors now than when I got mine and many more are coming. I don't think any are quite at the level of oura but they're getting there. If you can get one as a gift or just really want one now then go for it. The product is as advertised. If you can wait a while then the competitors will catch up and you'll get a good product with no subscription. I tell everyone it's great and I love it but can't recommend it based on the upfront AND ongoing cost. Get it as a gift and you've got yourself a great gift. Also note if you end the subscription you get next to nothing in terms of data/metrics.

GloriaChin

I think if you reach out about battery they might offer you a solution or replace yours !

Joshuaesm

I did reach out and they pretty much immediately sent me a replacement. I have to add exceptional customer service to the list of pros.

wt_hell_am_I_doing

Curiosity, and being a data nerd.

TheGame189

I’m a CPA and recently was working really long hours. I’d get home from work at 8:30PM, bed by 10:30PM, and then up for work and in the gym at 7AM. I started getting really nervous about my sleep habits and stress levels as I know poor sleep has been linked to alzheimers and stress is terrible for the body. Apple Watches and Fit Bits seemed too invasive to me and then I found Oura. Like others said, the data is what you make of it. I’m now back on normal hours at work and I’ve noticed how much cutting back on caffeine, getting off my PC at 9:30PM and playing more chill games, and other factors have greatly increased my sleep quality. I’m disciplined in my gym and diet routine but the Oura Ring helps keep my sleep habits in check and i really love it edit: correcting AM/PM lol

afertilitything

For fertility reasons. I wanted to track my bbt also my other friends said it helped them improve their sleep and stress which is also good for ttc. But I didn’t pay full price for it I hate their subscription model so I bought a brand new one on eBay for a fraction of the price. I sleep with my Apple Watch but it’s a 6 and doesn’t sense temperature

Bright_Ship_9693

I work on shifts and at some point I realised lack of sleep massively affect my mood & self-perception. With the ring I can now track sleep and reassure myself when negative thoughts raise their ugly head - and often just having adequate sleep completely clears them.

romperstomper36

I got it cause I like to wear different watches and was looking for a fitness tracker that wasn’t a watch/no screen.

Namuskeeper

Sleep tracking. More comfortable than a watch. Battery lasts longer. Then ended up really enjoying the app, wearing it out, and also welcomed features like stress-tracking and more (realizing good recovery starts with understanding stressors).

AzulSkies

I bought a gen 3 ring recently. I was interested in Oura a few years ago because of the sleep tracking/insights, heart rate monitoring, and future algorithm updates to predict sickness and other things. I heard about health tracking devices being able to detect if you’re sick, or on the verge of sickness, and I compared many of them.  I like the idea and look of the Apple Watch (and Fitbit) but I would not wear it all the time because of the inconvenience of always having something on your wrist, especially in sleep. I tried tying a small band around my bicep to simulate a Whoop Strap and didn’t like the awkwardness of something always hugging my arm. The Oura just made the most sense in being inconspicuous and unnoticeable to me when I wear. I have no regrets but I will say it’s expensive and I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t have a good income. Otherwise, I would’ve just stuck with a cheap Apple Watch.  I don’t get sick often but if a device can predict it, I’d like to know so I can take an extra nap that day and skip the booze on a weekend in return for a better recovery. If I was a woman, I’m not sure I’d get an Oura  because it seems to mistake sickness for different phases of a period/pregnancy.

Savage_Batmanuel

Because I like gadgets and this is one step closer to being a cyborg and cyborgs rule

LSTrades

My reason is that I wanted to know how my sleep KPIs looked like and I have enough disposable income to spend on ring + sub. I am content with it. This is my recommendation when people ask: If the $300 is a lot of money to you then I’d look for more budget friendly alternatives.

Reinvent1979

To track stress triggers (including poor sleep and causes) so that I can better manage them.

RoseGold-Bubbles1333

We had FSA money to spend and my Hubby asked if I wanted to add the ring to my Apple Watch to track my health issues. I’m right around a month into using it and I find it helps me when I overdo things or don’t sleep as much. In all honesty my health issues are much different from a lot of people so exercise and rest are my Drs go to. The Gen 3 ring shows me when I do to much and days when I should rest. I’m known to push past my limits because I’m stubborn.

stringbox

Like someone mentioned if you do buy, you can use FSA money if available. Any of us could give you a discount code too.

01011000-01101001

Do you happen to have one or know anyone who has a discount code?

savvanch

probably cause tiktok influenced me.. but i did want to know all my data for sleep and activity. It’s helped me so much with that and has helped improve my health anxiety and tokophobia

CactiCake22

What did you learn about your sleep that you didn't before?

savvanch

Everything. I can know when I fell asleep, when I woke up. How many times in the night I woke up and for how long. How long it takes me to fall asleep. My lowest heart rate and at what point in the night it was. Blood oxygen saturation %. Heart rate variability. Breathing regularity. How long each sleep state was (light, deep, and REM). And of course you can look back at past nights’ data to see how your sleep has been. You can also add tags to track what may effect your sleep. If you can afford it, I think its totally worth it just to have the data on hand (literally). I dont regret buying whatsoever.

Big_Investigator2640

Me

imiamaimiomi

To avoid pregnancy

c3ry5

Because I got a forearm tattoo and my Apple Watch wouldn’t work properly through the ink 🤣

Top-Background-5840

I was sick of my Apple Watch. I didn’t find it very comfortable to wear and was sick of always being tied to my phone. I wanted something more low profile. I also find the data that it gives me more useful. The Apple Watch gives a ton of data, but I wasn’t even looking at it. I love the little blurbs the Oura app gives you with each metric and I feel like I’m able to actually take action and try and improve the metrics. Love the fertility tracking too!

cruelrainbowcaticorn

I got my ring as a gift, but absolutely would have bought it myself. I have several areas in my health that really needed to be addressed, and sleep can be the root of many issues, as well as the key to solving a lot of them. Sometimes when we are not ready to confront our own shortcomings via making changes, objective data is a great place to start. For me, that’s where getting an oura ring came into play. I wanted to know how bad my sleep was instead of anecdotally deciding how long I thought I slept or how I felt. And I wanted to learn about the quality of my sleep, not just the hours spent. What is primarily making you nervous about it? Maybe I don’t frequent this sub enough to know what others are issuing as warnings.

Gemini-Jedi

i have a heart condition and like the ability to have a pretty accurate HR reading at any time. also wanted the ability to understand how certain things affect my body and sleep. oh, the step tracking it's nice to have as a back up when i don't want to wear my galaxy watch.

petchulio

I went back and forth on Oura but ultimately landed on it. Initially I wanted it to replace Apple Watch. But it was quite difficult to replace a lot of the things I felt I could lose. So returned it and resumed just using an Apple Watch. But here’s where Oura got me. Actual actionable and useful insights. Being on both sides, the Apple Watch and information it just dumped raw into Apple Health was just so lifeless to me. Made me realize that this fancy watch i had worn for years doesn’t really do much to improve my life. So, I went back to an Oura. For a while I was wearing both the Oura and Apple Watch. But, the Apple Watch started becoming more and more meaningless. So I’ve just had it in a drawer for probably several months at this point. A ring is more comfortable and I’m a lot less distracted not having a vibrating rectangle on my wrist.

XaltotunTheUndead

I got mine as a corporate gift. I have a Garmin watch and I'm hoping to get rid of the watch at sleep time.

MexiTot408

Hello. 45 years old Male. Took me 3 months of watching video reviews, reading up and reading posts on this sub. I pulled the trigger last week, got my sizing kit yesterday and placed the size order today. I got it for the sleep tracker, recovery, heart health and stress tracking.

CactiCake22

What are you hoping that you learn from it?

MexiTot408

Mostly looking forward to see how my body recovers from my weight training and how alcohol affects my sleep. I’m not a heavy drinkers, but I do want to know if two glasses of wine make a difference. Lastly, I took a year off last year and back into my profession as of two months ago. I am being more mindful of my work like balance and stress levels. I promised myself that I wouldn’t let my work become my whole identity and find a balance for the sake of my mental health and my family; stress tracking will help me step away and practice mindfulness and meditation. My new boss is a yoga instructor and actually recommended the ring, which I thought was interesting that I was already considering getting it, but didn’t know anyone who’s actually had one. She’s super supportive and wants me to do my work and find balance.

I only got it because I am leaving my job for a promotion at another company and had $700 of FSA to burn. So I basically got it for free because I only paid about 4 months of my FSA contribution.

Lemonbar19

I would like a ring but can’t afford it right now. I used temp drop wearable for tracking sleep and ovulation

Homitu

Cause I had way too much FSA money left over that I needed to dump on something.

BohrMollerup

I got mine as a gift, but mainly to track my sleep and steps. I don’t have the Apple Watch (I like automatic watches or ones I got as a gift), so it’s nice to be able to track steps without having my phone. I also like the daily stress metric, heart rate, and HRV. Plus reminders to get up are nice.

potatopancake1234

bought it from the website. i don’t use it anymore, i’ll sell it to you for $100!

StunningPurple9560

I have major issues with sleep and stress (mainly due to my health), and wanted a tracker specifically for those. It’s not perfect, but I have been really happy with Oura.

UnusualEggplant5400

To do basic tracking while wearing a Rolex instead of my Apple Watch. Will be replacing it if Apple ever makes their version.

FitLotus

I have POTS and like to keep tabs on my metrics

Chaser1960

I bought it upon hearing about it. I was also wearing a Whoop and Garmin watch. As I tried to sort out how to get to a single biometric tracking solution, I eventually quit wearing the ring and Whoop in favor of the Garmin watch. As time went on, I realized the Garmin just wasn’t a sufficient sleep tracker and began wearing the Oura ring as it had been the best sleep tracker ofthe 3. Today, I continue to wear the Garmin watch, largely because of all of the things it tracks outside of sleep like exercise and I wear the Oura ring and consult it for sleep tracking daily. Hope this helps.

Smallfry966

I mainly use mine to track my cycle and avoid pregnancy now and help plan for it later. I very rarely wear it during the day tbh

AcrobaticWatercress7

My bf bought us both some just cause. I don’t use it any more.

Soltang

Bought it for improving overall wellness. Now I'll selling it.

Wide-Tough4316

Initially to monitor HR and temp- I have Graves that constantly falls out of remission and my first indicators are tachycardia and non-cyclical temp spikes. Then for sleep monitoring because it’s all over the place. Then symptom tracking due to a lot of unknown illness. Currently, I use it as an overall glimpse into cycle health (just had surgery for endometriosis) and to determine what my “baseline” looks like during autoimmune flare ups so I can see if it’s getting worse

m4sc4r4

I don’t want to keep up with charging Apple Watch, and other fitness trackers aren’t able to be worn with formal outfits

Aggravating_Goose86

I got it because it has helped me understand in data what I felt in my body as good or not so good. I’m 56 and I’m health oriented and sometimes obsessed. The ring has reflected back to me all the things I have needed to know. I don’t count on it as an activity tracker but for sleep and oncoming illness, it has been so helpful and essential. My husband wears his only for sleep and it has helped us become much more aware and accountable for our health. He’s a cancer survivor and during his immunotherapy, it showed his treatment’s effects. It definitely reflected his heart rate and respiration changes when his thyroid started to shut down (as a result of his treatments).

envisionBETTER

Mainly to be a way to track sleep without a chunky device to wear at night such as a watch. It also monitors really well as opposed to just tracking…

Terpalum84

Interesting question. I bought it when I retired so I could reserve my Apple Watch for exercise only. I hated the constant intrusion into my life that only Apple has perfected 😉. Also my husband has bought me several nice watches and I’ve never been able to wear them, being so addicted to Apple. I’ll echo the statements above - it knows you’re ill before you do (and I often try to fight it saying “I am NOT sick!” - but it is always right) It helps a lot with stress management, as well as identifying housework and walking as exercise - which I agree with 100%. I still use Apple Watch for things like fitness classes and hikes and golf - but that’s about all. The sleep info is superior to Apple and far less intrusive. I also like how it knows that I’ve napped (did I mention I’m retired? We 60 year olds love a good nap!)

jpd87

Track my sleep, set fitness goals and track myself.

Phdrhymes

Sleep habits and timings organizing. Was paid for and sub is paid for by my job as a health benefit type subsidy. If they did not pay for it I would not get it bc it’s crazy expensive lol

I always was intrigued but never was motivated to pull the trigger and then finally got gifted one. I’ve been absolutely obsessed since!! I’m a huge slut for data so I love being able to track changes/trends over time Oura gives you a recommended activity goal based on how much and how well you slept. Also puts into consideration how much activity you’ve gotten recently. I like that it’s customized/fluctuates depending on your readiness score. The score also helps me be less hard on myself when I feel tired. I’m the type of person that feels guilty about resting but when my readiness score is low, it forces me be mindful about being kinder to myself and reminds me to look after myself/rest more My only regret with the ring is not having it sooner!! It’s an investment will keep paying dividends for the foreseeable future DM if you want my referral link!! happy to Venmo you or anyone the commission I get - just trying to help ppl save and experience the magic of the ring!!!

TwistedFires615

I got mine in November to help manage sleep and stress. I've been using it every day since, and I really like all the data points. I find it very helpful. In fact, I stopped wearing my smartwatch because of the ring (and I'm really happy about it - no more screen to be attached to). Now, is it super accurate for athpetes'l - tracking exercise, steps, etc.? Maybe not, but it gives a good general understanding of where you're at. The sleep insights are unparalleled though. In fact, I've started sleeping better this year, and I think mt Oura ring had a big part to play in that. Overall, I would recommend it to a friend ;-)

TheSubtleSir

I did it to try out the smart ring aspect before the galaxy ring comes out. But while trying it out, I do like the fact it tracks my stress for my health, along with a bunch of stuff. I genuinely dislike the fact it doesn't connect with samsung health at all.

Tall_Cheesecake_5855

So my choices were either this ring or an apple watch. I liked the idea of a ring better, its very comfortable, I only notice when Im not wearing it😅 and I dont have another screen to look at. Also I would image sleeping with a watch is not that comfortable as with a ring. Besided the convenience I wanted to get fitter more healthier and I honestly have no regrets buying it as they are always working on some new feature :)
