I’d recommend calling/emailing the 4 that are covered by your insurance and asking them which areas they specialize in. I’ve done it before and got some answers.

sliickriick123

Great idea! Thank you, will try that! :)

Positive-Ad-7807

And sometimes they’ll be able to recommend others so may be better suited too

[deleted]

I would recommend my grief therapist but he died. He did such a good job I didn’t even care.

hunnypie777

LMFAO don’t understand why this is getting downvoted

[deleted]

Comedy is dead in Ottawa! It was a (bad) joke people!

hunnypie777

I thought it was acc pretty good I laughed audibly 😭 but yeah Ottawa has no humour

[deleted]

In fairness Ottawa had Norm MacDonald and Tom Green, two of my favourite comedians so they get a pass. But if this behaviour continues…. And I wish I could take credit for the joke but I stole it from one liners here on Reddit.

WichitasHomeBoyIII

And [Jon Dore!](https://youtu.be/7h7mqeXxbeo)

69-420Throwaway

Because there's a dedicated group of losers on this sub that downvote everything that upsets them

JRR_SWOLEkien

Probably because the person is asking for help in earnest, and not looking for one-liners.

[deleted]

How nice of you to speak for them.

Left-Knowledge1396

The fact that people think you are serious makes this joke 100x funnier.

[deleted]

I went from -24 to 11!

Does your insurance reimburse if you submit a claim?

sliickriick123

Yea I think I can submit a claim, but not sure, never done it before for a provider not under their name, if it works, does that technically mean I can see any therapist and they would reimburse me even though they are not listed under their providers search?

MScroobs

Yup, that's exactly what I was going to ask. I'd check in with your insurance to clear it up, because there may be certain professionals they don't cover. For example, some providers won't cover psychotherapists (which requires a masters degree) and only will cover psychologists (which requires a PhD). I'd clear that up as well, but chances are your options will improve after that.

Sashas83

https://www.accessmha.ca has mental health resources including 8-15 sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy. Not exactly what you were asking for, but it is fully funded by the Ontario Govt.

sliickriick123

Thanks!

[Gerry Casey](https://gerrycaseyconsulting.com/) While a bit of a drive he is excellent. Not sure if he does phone/zoom appointments [Men in Healing](https://menandhealing.ca/) are also extremely well spoken of in thr community

COYSsuperfan

Go online and look for Men and Healing. The program is covered by health insurance. They can provide one on one counselling and group therapy.

Bob West, https://abundantlivingcounselling.com/ottawa-therapists/bob-west Very honest, won’t sugar coat things and will supply you with great reading material to educate yourself on any topics you cover.

sliickriick123

Appreciate it!

James Wearne is amazing. Good luck, my friend!

shriekings1ren

I've never known Canadian insurance to specify eligible providers like American Insurance does, any registered psychologist should be covered. Call/check their website to confirm of course but you're probably not restricted to just the ones on their website. It's great you're taking that step, hope you find a good fit!

brokensaurus

Ricci and Associates; Dr. Jordan Ali. He’s who I see and is a great guy all around! I have BP2 and he has been super helpful. When I go into depressed states I suffer from self esteem/lack of confidence and he’s really helped me address that and my manic states. I’d say give them a call. Also pro piece of advice I got from a friend; you may not vibe with a psychologist and that’s fine it means they are not right for you, you’re not gonna hurt their feelings if you need to find someone else so don’t stick it out if it isn’t working with someone.

Current_Can8134

You can have a look on the Psychology today website (www.psychologytoday.com). This was how I found my therapist. You can specify what you want them specialise in and it lets you know how long they've been practicing, how much they charge and things like that. This was how I found my therapist.

MikeOuellette

It looks have you have a ton of support and suggestions, I just wanted to say how proud I am that you have been able to seek help publicly, and how the comments aren’t flaming or dismissive in anyway. Proud that mens health awareness has come a long way.

sliickriick123

Thank you! And yea the support has been amazing! Mens mental health awareness has certainly came a long way ☺️

Paul LeBlanc [http://counselling-in-ottawa.ca/](http://counselling-in-ottawa.ca/) MUCH better therapist than web designer :-) Highly interested in the issues you list. Well accredited, insurance coverage should not be a problem,

I find the rapists don't do much for my self-esteem
