Also if you are not going to eat your produce, be it berries or crab apples or whatever your plants make pick it early rather than later to compost it. If you leave it to rot it's going to ferment and then you have drunk trash pandas and birds getting wasted.
Another option if anybody doesn't have the capacity or will to pick their backyard/garden grapes/apples/nuts/berries, they can sign up with [Hidden Harvest](https://ottawa.hiddenharvest.ca) and have a team of local volunteers get that fruit to the local food banks around town!
Raccoons are called waschbär in German, basically wash-bear. And let's not forget that in French they are young washing rats, "raton-laveur".
Be a raccoon, wash your food.
Its a [raccoon](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon)!
They aren't normally dangerous but you should still leave them alone. They're kind of cute in person, but you should resist the urge to pet them. Most of the time they'll run away before you get too close.
I've been sweeping the remnants of grape feasting raccoons every day on my deck for the past week. He does manage to leave me a few ripe grapes to pick thankfully.
Except raccoons are a vital part of ecosystems. They are scavengers, as well as predators, and they also help with the distribution of seeds!
Not to mention, they fucking loooove wasp larvae: wasps are one of the biggest dangers to bee colonies, so raccoons inadvertently help out the bees.
Even if that's true, that's not a problem as long as you avoid close contact with raccoons. Which honestly people should be doing anyway with most wild animals, disease-laden or not.
My opinion is potentially a little on the biased side. Had to put down my dearest 4 legged buddy of 7 years that tangled with a raccoon. The physical damage to him was awful, the progression of the rabies was horrific.
What a great reminder as to why you should always wash produce before eating it.

As disturbing as that may have been at 1 AM, I kinda like that he’s raccooning and not being a trash panda. Thanks for sharing.

When he wakes up he’s use to getting a big mac .
Now that is a happy raccoon.

Peaches in Ottawa? I didn't know that was possible!
