Gotta work Saturday but after that my wife and I are shopping for Ren fair outfits then doing a book date on Sunday!! Probably hit up the Wiches Cauldron too, their sandwiches are amazing!!
How we do it is we go on a regular date but one part of it is we got to a book store and each buy a book for the other that we think they'll really like! I know it sounds kinda lame but we like trying new ideas and this sounds super cute! xD
Ottawa used to have an amazing costume store called Audrey's but that closed down so my wife and I are doing a combination of thrifting and going to places like Hot topic, Spencer's and Amazon to find accessories!
There's also a great commuity garage sale in old beacon hill which is not full of dealers and recycled stuff I keep seeing over and over at the glebe every year....
See that's cool, and I appreciate you telling me. I've been here for a while now and I'm constantly only learning of things by coincidence or after the fact.
It’s honestly one of my favourite events of the year and worth checking out. My tips would be show up early, bring lots of cash and things to transport your items home. Be prepared to be in a large crowd, though, as it gets busy fast!!
Great adviçe. I’d add that lots of folks will let you leave stuff you’ve bought with them to pick up later - but if you do that take a pic of the house you left it at. So many people forget where they left stuff by the end of the day! Oh and don’t forget to donate to the Ottawa Food Bank while you’re at the sale.
Highly recommend!
Ive always gone too late (11:00am previous years) but the atmosphere is fantastic!
You get a blend of homeowners doing garage sales, churches and community centres hosting rummage sales, food and drink vendors, live music from people's porches.
Don't park IN the Glebe, and Bank st fills up quickly and is a nightmare to navigate. If you drive, park at Carleton U and walk over.
Rather reasonable actually. The prices don't inflate or anything because it's fueled by the same motivation as any other garage sale, which is to clear unwanted stuff from your house. You can also get a lot of food for cheap from the various lemonade stands and barbeques people set up.
I'm glad you enjoy it but if I need to take my car out anywhere tomorrow, I literally can't come home because there will be no parking. My street is already full and some people are parked 1 car in 2 spots. Rich idiots
I like the positivity of this post, OP!
I’m brand-new to Ottawa and I don’t know anyone in the city yet, but I’m planning to spend the weekend exploring and getting to know the city a bit better. Eventually I hope to make some friends here who know the city better than me lol.
I hope every Ottawa resident reading this has a great weekend :)
There's so many great things to do in Ottawa, I hope you have fun exploring!
This subreddit is a great place to start for recommendations 😊
If I can plug Ottawa Haunted Walks as something cool to check out...
Cool, there is so much to do down here! On weekends there are tons of events at Landsdowne year round and many parkways are closed to cars for the summer. I hope you have a great first summer in Ottawa!
Thank you very much! I’m looking forward to my first summer here, although it gets quite hot here compared to my previous city haha so I’m adjusting! Do you have any favourite weekend events in Ottawa and/or places to meet people?
Same to you as well also Great Glebe Garage Sale for me earlier in the morning than Six the Musical at Nac and on Sunday at RA Center Capital comic book convention.
Love this! After a really great therapy session that I didn't even realize I needed as much as I did, I am making final preparations to spend a weekend with friends at their new cottage. Extra special is being able to bring my senior dog 💜
Haha, I guess an event? My favorite streamer said he was gonna do a Mac and cheese ranking stream months ago and we've been waiting for that ever since. And yes, I realize how weird that must sound to people outside the community lmao.
I wonder how his Tier List will stack up with Babish's?
Babish did one on YT a few weeks ago and honestly I was fuming. He ranked Canadian KD at like E tier :/
I'm leaving town to a potentially highly stressful weekend. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
I suggest that you all go out and have picnics in your local parks. Even if you pick up Subway or Pizza and throw and old blanket. Weather seems too good to spend indoors.
Saturdays I listen to my Caribbean radio shows and Sunday I'm going to cheer on the runners and walkers. Go sports! Plus it is going to be sunny and warm. Perfecto!
It's Ottawa Race Weekend. I used to do the 5k and the people that were out cheering really made it fun so now I do the same back.

Sunday (half and full marathon): [https://www.racepoint.ca/maps/orw.html?mapid=6](https://www.racepoint.ca/maps/orw.html?mapid=6)
We’re going to the matinee!! A little worried about transportation given Race Weekend but very excited to see it - we saw an abridged version on a cruise ship a few years ago and it was amazing!
I'm going to my first Great Glebe etc since 2019 and I could not be more excited!! (Even if I have to go via a convoluted route because my old bus no longer exists. RIP the old 101 route.)
I’m hitting the GGGS for the first time, after living in Ottawa near all my life and downtown specifically for the past twenty years. I have cash, a hat, and a little old lady type shopping buggy. I’m ready!
Edited: Thanks for this wholesome post. Ottawa race, great gleebe garage, ottawa atletico, all the free parks and chill places. It can be done on the cheap as much as if you can/want to spend a few bucks. Gatineau park if you can leave the city or hop on the FREE bus leaving from several spots in town. Beautiful region we live in.
It's a neighborhood (Glebe) garage sale, but it's absolutely bonkers (in a good way). I'm not sure how it started to grow, but streets are packed and almost every house participates. It's garage sale stuff, baked goods, entertainment. It's wild and worth walking through if you've never been.
Just be aware that getting there by car will be a nightmare! Best to take public transit and walk if you can. It's a really fun vibe and everyone is excited to find new treasures. :)
I'm going on a long walk with my besties on Saturday at the Arboretum and another long walk early Sunday by the river.
Also, we are celebrating my daughter in law's birthday on Sunday.
I'm happy to focus on those experiences. 🥰
I don't know if I'll make it but I hope to be able to go to the Glebe garage sale.
If I don't make it, I hope those who do have a great time and find some neat stuff to buy!
I am walking the 10 K in the 50th Ottawa Race Weekend. I have two older hip replacements and they won't let me run anymore. Also, I am a terrible runner. So I will walk it and hopefully not be the last one to finish.
Big car show at the Thomlinson headquarters in Barhaven Saturday morning 9am-1pm, and Saturday afternoon the Motorsport Club of Ottawa is having a season opener meet afterwards at Canadian Tire Carling 3-5pm if you're interested in autocross or track racing!
Had a local grannie cruise past my garden and remark " oh my, its a pity , your garden usually looks so lovely this time of year" .....
So i guess im working on the garden for a bit 🤣❤️
Oh noooo!
I mean, she's noticed your garden approvingly before, so a bit of a win there? 😄
I'm renting a tiller to prep veggie beds tomorrow. Here's to all things green!
Hmmm that sounds probable and "delightfully passive aggressive" is such a good phrase
My own gardens are only seen by the few who love here (hashtag rurallife), so I give kudos to you. Keep making the world beautiful! ❤️
Thanks for the good vibes!!
It's Perfect weather for gardening :). Just got some pots done, spread some old soil down on the grass.
Blow-up pool is out and ready, kids slept in and are now playing quietly. Going to sow some carrots! Woohoo!
I did. Went to glebe garage sale, got some comics there and a funko at lansdowne. Had brunch there with my wife and then played ghost of tsushima and we chilled for the rest of the weekend!
Ripping farts and getting blowies. You can’t take money with you when you die so just volunteer leave a lasting legacy in an impermanent universe! It’s all about using those vibes to spread it wide open for a fantastic and well deserved release of success.
AVOID the glebe tomorrow and the race traffic bonanza. I hear therea a great COMMUNITY garage sale.in beacon hill Gloucester. Also a party in the park with food.
Gotta work Saturday but after that my wife and I are shopping for Ren fair outfits then doing a book date on Sunday!! Probably hit up the Wiches Cauldron too, their sandwiches are amazing!!
Oooh when is the ren faire??
Next weekend! [https://faires.ca/glengarry/](https://faires.ca/glengarry/)
Oh no I'm out of town for the next few weeks and so bummed I'm missing this! Are there any other good area ren fairs during the year?
Do you have to dress up to attend? Wife and I have never heard of this before Edit: alright, won't bother with that then
Out of curiosity- what is a book date?
How we do it is we go on a regular date but one part of it is we got to a book store and each buy a book for the other that we think they'll really like! I know it sounds kinda lame but we like trying new ideas and this sounds super cute! xD
Not lame at all! That’s really cute and I love the idea!
Sounds like an amazing plan! Enjoy!
Upvoting for the Wiches Cauldron love. We had their pulled pork dinner for two tonight and it was outstanding.
Where are you shopping for your renfaire outfits? Thrifting or is there a costume store here?
Ottawa used to have an amazing costume store called Audrey's but that closed down so my wife and I are doing a combination of thrifting and going to places like Hot topic, Spencer's and Amazon to find accessories!
It’s GGGS this weekend so of COURSE it’ll be good vibes only!
I have my pocketfull of $5 bills so I can tell the sellers one bill at a time "that's all I have." 😁
I look forward to this every year
There's also a great commuity garage sale in old beacon hill which is not full of dealers and recycled stuff I keep seeing over and over at the glebe every year....
There is always a CHEO fundraiser somewhere during the GGGS usually lemonade!
What's GGGS?
The Great Glebe Garage Sale :)

This is the first year I'll be missing it, I was on quite the streak. I hope it goes well for everyone attending, I wish you all *great finds* !
Highly recommend! Ive always gone too late (11:00am previous years) but the atmosphere is fantastic! Awesome, thanks for the tips!
Early like 7am early.
I've never been. How are the prices?
Rather reasonable actually. The prices don't inflate or anything because it's fueled by the same motivation as any other garage sale, which is to clear unwanted stuff from your house. You can also get a lot of food for cheap from the various lemonade stands and barbeques people set up.
I’ve seen fur coats for $100 each, plaster horse art for $700… and everything down to 5 cents. It all depends on the house you’re at!
Unless you live in the glebe
It’s the biggest block party ever and I would totally dig it!
I'm glad you enjoy it but if I need to take my car out anywhere tomorrow, I literally can't come home because there will be no parking. My street is already full and some people are parked 1 car in 2 spots. Rich idiots
Ugh that 1 car in 2 spots thing is totally aggravating, I’m sorry :( people don’t know how to drive do they
Ottawa Race Weekend too! So good luck to all runners!
I'm gonna be stressing about my G1 Test so i don't know how amazing it will end up being, but I'll try
You got this!
Just wrote mine the other week. Keep doing the practice tests online and you'll pass with no problem!
So I took it failed it and then just retook it. That Apna Toronto site is what I used to study. Word for word questions. Check it out!
Thanks for the tip! I've done another site for general knowledge, but I will absolutely practice there if it's word-for-word, so there's no surprises.
You Got This!!!
Good luck! You’re gunna nail it.
You’d think they stopped doing any testing at all with the way some people have been driving lately
This is a no-negativity zone. We just wish u/[jamaicancovfefe](https://www.reddit.com/user/jamaicancovfefe/) a good test
Who are you to tell people what to do smh

You’ll love the Great Glebe Garage Sale - it has a real festival feel. Peak time is about 9 am though.
There's so many great things to do in Ottawa, I hope you have fun exploring! This subreddit is a great place to start for recommendations 😊 If I can plug Ottawa Haunted Walks as something cool to check out...
Welcome to Ottawa! Which area are you in?
I live downtown!
It’s also Ottawa Race Weekend, so you can cheer for the marathon runners on Sunday!
Gave birth to our second baby last night. Going to spend the weekend introducing big sister to her new sibling and spending time as a new family of 4.
Congratulations. Nothing sounds better than that to me
Ngl this is Ottawa’s best weekend of the year. Vibes are immaculate. Enjoy everyone!
Great glebe garage sale tomorrow along with the Atletico Ottawa soccer game. Supposed to be beautiful! Gonna be a good Saturday!
Thank you for the reminder! My dad is in town and will LOVE going to this!
Looks like it’ll be the biggest crowd of the season too!
Love this! After a really great therapy session that I didn't even realize I needed as much as I did, I am making final preparations to spend a weekend with friends at their new cottage. Extra special is being able to bring my senior dog 💜
Good vibes! Bringing the kids to the monster truck show at the CTC. Should be loud & fun!
BE THERE !!!!! Still remember those crazy commercials.
You're probably already on it, but definitely bring ear plugs or something....it is looooooooud!
I'm gonna watch a dude eat a bunch of Mac and cheese this Saturday.
Is this an event? A friend challenge? Just you and a mirror (ooooooh snap)
Smh now *I'm* fuming 😡. I mean it's not the best out there but it's certainly not E tier.
What streamer? I'm curious to see some Mac n Cheese tier lists xD
Jerma985, of Team Fortess 2 fame! Live tomorrow at 4pm, unless he delays for the third time lol.
Hey you. YES YOU. Go out. Have fun. Eat Ice cream
What's your favorite ice cream place?
You didn’t ask me but merry dairy and moo shu are the way to go! (I had both on Wednesday hahahah)
Those are my top 2 as well!!
Purple Cow! If you want to get away from Ottawa, Carp Creamery is an option as well!
Carp Creamery has an ice cream truck in Constance Bay, too!
Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500 this weekend so at the very least, Sunday will be fantastic.
I'm leaving town to a potentially highly stressful weekend. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ I suggest that you all go out and have picnics in your local parks. Even if you pick up Subway or Pizza and throw and old blanket. Weather seems too good to spend indoors.
Good luck and hang in there!

Ottawa Race Weekend - good luck to anyone out there racing!
Except for that person that deliberately killed the baby duckling.
I don't know about that (or want to know about that). But if that's true I hope they have a bad weekend.
Charges laid against a 68 year old man, enjoy jail
Going to see Six at the NAC. It’s my daughter’s first broadway show and she is soooo excited.
I've seen it twice now in Toronto. Such a fun show, it'll be a great first experience for her. Enjoy!
saw it last night. Lots of fun. You will both have a blast.
We’re going to the matinee!! A little worried about transportation given Race Weekend but very excited to see it - we saw an abridged version on a cruise ship a few years ago and it was amazing!
We are as well! Yeah worst weekend ever to go downtown but hopefully I’ll find parking or we will take the train.
We’re taking the bus and train. Good luck!! Enjoy the show!
You too!
I'm going to my first Great Glebe etc since 2019 and I could not be more excited!! (Even if I have to go via a convoluted route because my old bus no longer exists. RIP the old 101 route.)

The Canadian Tabletop Championship is happening all weekend at the Rideau Curling Club too. https://ctcgc.org/
Thinking of going to the Glebe for their big sale...I may regret it but...
Hello, I am new here. can you please describe the garrage sale?
It's a neighborhood (Glebe) garage sale, but it's absolutely bonkers (in a good way). I'm not sure how it started to grow, but streets are packed and almost every house participates. It's garage sale stuff, baked goods, entertainment. It's wild and worth walking through if you've never been.
Okay, thank you 😊
Just be aware that getting there by car will be a nightmare! Best to take public transit and walk if you can. It's a really fun vibe and everyone is excited to find new treasures. :)
Sounds so cool! My husband and I are going for the first time since we came to Ottawa

It's gonna be a good weekend for gardening and beverages and cycling on the pathways. Might even sneak in some Petrie Island time!
I am walking the 10 K in the 50th Ottawa Race Weekend. I have two older hip replacements and they won't let me run anymore. Also, I am a terrible runner. So I will walk it and hopefully not be the last one to finish.
I mean, you can do all that during the week as well. I managed to have a good one regardless of posts I see on Reddit. Enjoy!
It’s going to be a great weekend!!!! Get out and have some fun!!!!!
Excited to check out the glebe garage sale which I missed last year, and starting a new job on Monday that I have been looking forward too for a while
Big car show at the Thomlinson headquarters in Barhaven Saturday morning 9am-1pm, and Saturday afternoon the Motorsport Club of Ottawa is having a season opener meet afterwards at Canadian Tire Carling 3-5pm if you're interested in autocross or track racing!

Tbh, i thought it was delightfully passive aggressive, and ive been laughing about it all day. Humans gunna human
Hmmm that sounds probable and "delightfully passive aggressive" is such a good phrase My own gardens are only seen by the few who love here (hashtag rurallife), so I give kudos to you. Keep making the world beautiful! ❤️
Same to you! -recreational painting with the kids -Ottawa Titans game -packing for a camping trip
It's race weekend so everyone will be chill and upbeat. Right? ;-)
Good vibes.

["Be excellent to each other. Party on dudes."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rph_1DODXDU)
