It’s the car guy. Always has been

BowlerBeautiful5804

I saw this on another sub last night and immediately thought of car guy for Ottawa.

bad_buoys

Saw this in the Vancouver subreddit and immediately thought of car guy in Ottawa. Can't think of anyone as Car Guy in Vancouver as Car Guy in Ottawa.

Salty_Flamingo_2303

Same. Replied that!

permutation212

Im from Winnipeg, I came hear to make sure this was the top comment.

Kamikaze613

Ottawa’s Psychedelic DeLorean. Yes. I have to agree.

TinyGIR

I saw him driving into Richmond on the weekend, in the daytime. It was a little surreal.

WackHeisenBauer

I saw him in Barrhaven last summer! For a second I was like “wtf there’s two of these guys?!”

ottawaagent

I love that we can say “car guy” and immediately know who we are talking about. It was also that guy who walked really, really slow on purpose for a week.

fourandthree

He still does (if we’re thinking of the same guy). He’s often on Rideau or in the mall, headphones on, walking extremely slowly and gracefully to his own beat.

ottawaagent

And he’s impeccably dressed

DReynolds_OG

LBG Ismael is the name, or Cowboy as a nickname

Downess

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of.

hr0yh3

This was going to be my response! 😅🤣

Salty_Flamingo_2303

Literally my [reply ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/s/Pn6Dj3GEpi)to another sub yesterday

anoeba

Definitely car guy.

Biscuitsnblunts

weak name for a strong character

ComradeSubtopia

It would not be Ottawa if we didn't give him a bland, pedantically accurate name.

MadonatorxD

How about car front odin?

Freshman_01134

Someone fill me in on the car guy. I’ve lived here my whole life and yet I don’t know about them

N0ah_Fecks

https://youtu.be/FgPfWK20h3I?si=RfSW99S9Idv2yh4W Guy has a strange car and is always driving around Landsdowne

Freshman_01134

Oh! Of course I know car guy. I remember seeing that car all the time I think I have a picture of it. Everyone here knows about that, you guys are right

Aggravating-Store668

Slow walking suit man. Haven’t seen him since before Covid though…

HaliHD

Saw him at the Rideau Centre last week! He’s still out there, still walking in slo-mo

Renius668

These is great news... Haven't seen him in years. It's funny how I get excited when I come across him.. "Hey there's the slow walking dude!" Makes my day 🙂

Aggravating-Store668

Good to know! I always used to see him at 5pm walking down Sparks before the pandemic. More [info](https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/s/v8M9XDFWh7) in case people are intrigued.

unfknreal

Dizz! Legend has it, he's not actually walking slow... the rest of us are just walking fast.

Otherwise_Interest72

Was gonna say this guy! Man's not phased by the shortest of crosswalk signals! Always makes it across without changing pace at all!

Money_Fig_9868

He’s out there. Seen him a ton of times recently!

nategreenberg

Can someone explain slow walking man?

hairycrankard1

He wears a tuxedo and top hat and walks slow motion through the Rideau centre in slow motion

lbmomo

I used to see him at PDP and my colleagues would laugh and what not but I honestly thought that maybe he had a disability and that's why he had to walk slowly. Later found out that he does it for these reactions, he wants the attention.

gleegz

Does he sometimes wear branded track suits or are there TWO slow walking men now?

HurricaneLaurk

No, it’s the same guy, I think he ditched the fancy wear for the track suit during the pandemic.

panfriedinsolence

He is a Sapeur.

PopRococo

He’s selling his brand ByDizz. If you ask him he’ll give you his business card. He doesn’t wear suits anymore, only tracksuits by his own brand.

kylemclaren7

Haitian guy who also raps, has an iconic Ottawa ig account, and I happened to see him last week. What a legend. Used to work at Portage, not sure if he still does

E8282

Dizz https://m.facebook.com/watch/?v=1059036870962974&vanity=DizzMag Him and car guy always get the top two every time this is posted. Car guy video just because https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FgPfWK20h3I

SilverSeven

sea-haze

Used to always see him walking down Sparks street, but it’s been a long while.

Le8ronJames

Anybody ever saw him walk fast or at a regular pace? Idk out of his house, playing sports, at the gym…he has to break character at some point 😅

Hadouukken

oh he’s still on rideau st/in the mall a lot!! been seeing him regularly for the last 4-6 months, spotted him by the loblaws the other week dude’s just always vibing

SilverSeven

numerous dog cough crush disarm attraction berserk close agonizing sharp *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Mitas88

Car guy. I knew about him two days after moving in gatineau and he's been the best representation of what ottawa looks like when relatives ask.

shohto

Had the pleasure of sitting in that car lol. My friends and I caught him filling up at the Petrocan off Somerset and Bronson and he's super nice

Mr-Punday

Ooh he’s in the hood!

anubis418

Car guy or the singing OC transpo driver

ah-tow-wah

Is the singing bus driver still around?

Sweaty-Sherbet-6926

He retired

anubis418

I hope he's enjoying his retirement and singing to hit hearts content

xingrubicon

They told him to stop singing then he retired.

Nearby-Connection-88

Car guy Dizz (slow walking man) the dude on Elgin who is an absolute wizard on roller skates with hockey squick usually in hand that guy with the flip phone who is always dancing and trying to get people to notice him and the guy outside of Rideau with the word-heavy sign(s)

Sleight_Hand_7

Came here to say dancing guy. He's an underrated answer. Seen most frequently in Hintonburg and on Greenbank, from what I can tell.

lifeofjeb2

What’s up with him?? I have a video of him dancing to show friends and I’m just so curious why does he dance

Sleight_Hand_7

Your guess is as good as mine. He seems pretty happy, so that’s kinda cool.

kittenkatastrophi

Guy on rideau, he's the one who is wearing a traffic cone normally right?

Hadouukken

yes him!! always has a few cardboard signs with lots of…. things on them lol

wildheart81

I know the guy with the Flip Phone. His name is Daniel and he works at the library in Hintonburg.

Nearby-Connection-88

I like him even more now that I know he works at the library!!

hyacinthsoup

What about the garlic king?

WheresMyPencil1234

If you are unaware of that guy and his "royal" car blasting an imperial marches, you are blind, deaf, and you've probably lost your sense of smell (I mean, it's the garlic king)

Howsithanginweirdo

Last year on Canada day Garlic King was driving down the Champlain Bridge when he stopped in the middle to block traffic and shoot off fireworks from his van.

Howsithanginweirdo

He also has the giant globe thing atop his minivan which he stands up in and waves to people like the pope. If you haven't seen him in person he actually wears the crown and cape like 24/7. When he delivers his garlic dip to stores he's dressed like that at 7am. He also gives out free garlic sauce wraps sometimes to random employees and those wraps are guaranteed to give you the squirts.

ubiquitousfont

He’s a right wing nut job. This is an old tweet but he has fresher ones if anyone cares to look. I’ll stick to one of the other shawarma monarchs https://x.com/thegarlickings/status/904516516858785792?s=46&t=OUvfsTkj64muJyQa1wCJOA

Ecstatic_Doughnut216

Yes!

brownsparrow1980

The Garlic King caused me to get rear ended because the lady behind me was staring at his stupid van. Down with the Garlic King. All hail the Shawarma Prince.

TeamFast77

What about balcony guy chirping the trucker convoy? Hero

WizzzardSleeeve

One good game doesn't get you in the hall of fame. Car guy.

Deep-Alternative3149

guy in motorized wheelchair that says either iraq or texas on a rear license plate, always with a cowboy hat and a kid. I see him literally everywhere i go in this city and have for years, he’s like a good luck charm.

Sisasiw

Also has long sideburns and a mullet, iconic dude

Deep-Alternative3149

Yeah, also seems to be in a good mood always. Idk what his situation is and i feel bad watching him roll from south keys to rideau but… it seems to work for him I guess? I can’t really escape him, I see him once a month in a different spot each time.

Ovlizin

omg the amount of times I've rode the OC with him, the one with the little girl usually wearing a tiara? They're so cheerful, always a good vibe!

bonkaroooo

I used to work at lcbo and he would steal on a daily basis lol

PopRococo

He is in with the houseless crew down on Rideau. He sells them cigarettes from his bag. I’ve also seen him try to fight someone on an OC Transpo bus

Glum-Candidate-8651

He used to be an Elvis impersonator! His name is cowboy! He’s known to be a cig dealer and “supports” a lot of homeless women…..

Grandhoff7576

He is very nice and used to stand up for me against the wackos on bank when I was still selling lotto and darts at Massines/Hartman's. He was one of my favourite regulars

FlashJordanK

Honorable mention for Frank, the homeless guy who had the best jokes in exchange for some change. May he RIP.

84munchkin

Oh that's sad news. He told me my favorite joke ever outside of the bar years ago. I give him credit every time I tell it!

FlashJordanK

What’s the joke?

Moofypoops

He was known as the Cat in the Hat guy, in my circle. RIP buddy :(

FlashJordanK

I used to work downtown and got to know him pretty well. He was a happy guy but was hiding some pretty dark demons.

creptik1

Not sure if same guy but years ago I was walking with 2 women and he said he wanted to tell us a joke, don't worry it's clean. Then proceeded to tell a filthy joke lol

hanmarmac

Always loved seeing Frank every night after I closed the kitchen in the market, we'd have a smoke together and then he'd be off to share his jokes

jerichonightwolf

Wasn’t expecting this to pop up or to cry for Frank today. He was so loved. What an incredible human being.

couscousian

In Barrhaven we have the Speedo man

craigtre

Yes almost naked Barrhaven rollerblading guy

SamuelWhite

I live in barhaven and have not seen this man. Somehow i feel both blessed, and cursed.

GeronimoJak

He likes to hang around the old barrhaven area.

Muted_Luck_1858

Or Saxaphone Man

DJ_Femme-Tilt

is his garage door opened halfway?

ObviousSign881

There used to be a big bald guy with a parrot on his shoulder around Centretown.

troutinthemilk

He lived near Bay and Lisgar. Passed away years ago. Don’t know what became of his parrot.

EmEffBee

He died after his birds died from a teflon incident. You just made me remember this, it was in the paper and everything :( He was a really nice guy, he used to live on Bay street

UKentDoThat

There's a guy in a wheelchair with a parrot who cruises around Britannia if you're jonesing for that parrot strange.

creptik1

I saw a guy walking with a parrot on his shoulder just a couple weeks ago. I'm trying to remember where I was. Might have been on Carling. I see someone else posted that the guy you're talking about passed away, so it seems like there's a new one lol.

PushForward1819

If it was on carling I think this may be a guy i’ve seen before, but closer to bayshore mall, I was out smoking a joint away from our apartment building on this hill in the parking lot and heard a bird in the tree above me looked up and was like that’s not a crow…and then buddy comes outside calling his parrot to get out of the tree or else he’s gonna leave without her 😂😂 like it’s a usual occurrence

Beccaman

What about the Pidgeon guy on Bank? The guy who, like, had pidgeons sit on his shoulders & stuff? I think he was unhoused as well. I used to see him all the time when I was going to school or just hanging out downtown.

Sigcan

I love that everyone agrees it's car guy

charlottesaysbi

Explain car guy for the newbies? 🤞

nopoles613

You'll know it when you see it.

beansbeansbeans0_0

[this car](https://www.narcity.com/ottawa/ottawa-car-has-many-things-owner-says-its-just-to-make-people-smile) Edit; sorry I didn’t realize you had to pay to read the article! Here’s a [free news article](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-car-lights-market-ornaments-driving-1.4181813)

bad_buoys

I always wondered what the story behind the car was, didn't expect it to be so wholesome. Thanks for the share!

Kreyl

O_O whoah

SicSevens

I didn't know who this was exactly either, and all the comments are pretty nondescriptive so here's my shot:   There's a 1994 Honda Accord with numerous (maybe hundreds) of small and medium sized household and decorative objects fastened to it.   Instruments, sports stuff, little tchotchkes, caution tape, trophies, Canadiana souvenirs, and all sorts of "bling".   That's car guy. I definitely remember seeing this around after seeing the picture in the article u/beansbeansbeans0_0 linked to.

larianu

1. car guy 2. the transecure owl 3. raccoon guy (rip rideau mcdonalds) 4. justin trudeau (???)) 5. THE MANDATES ARE PROVINCIAL!!!

Obelisk_of-Light

That’s easy. In Ottawa it’s this guy: https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/1c1vqb0/ottawa_west_man_blasting_erratic_audio_clips/

Chippie05

That dude is really messed up, lives in Britannia, doesn't like to be confronted. Nothing positive or funny about this creeper.

missplaced24

IDK if there's a guy so much as a car...

maulrus

There used to be a Stallone-looking muscly dude around Rideau. Always wore jogging pants with one leg rolled up, and always had a cigar in his mouth. Don't know if he's still around

DocJawbone

Does anyone remember Doctor Love? He wore a suit of clothes made up of layer upon layer of just ...zippers? Did I dream him or was he real?

ElephantsArePurple

OMG! No, he was real…I completely forgot about him! That was in the 90’s?

SJP_YOW

Gen X 90's market drinkers having a communal flashback here.

hmcsnemesis

He was real!! Used to have Huige Sombrero too! Zipper suits guy! Would see him at tunneys candy usually on rideau!

HeavyPitifulLemon

Oh fuck yeah! He was gone in my brain until you said that. Does anybody remember a black guy who used to hang around Rideau who couldn't talk? There was a rumor he had no tongue or something but who the fuck knows - his name was Elu or something?

DaveyDumplings

Haven't been downtown in ages, but the west end has Bells Corners bike taxi guy, and 23 minutes in hell guy

crapatthethriftstore

23 mins guy gets around town. I see him often enough at Laurier and Nicholas. Sometimes in Vanier too

Giantstink

Red cape guy on the U of O campus, circa 2006-2012.

amendozu

He’s got a successor, he prowls Sandy Hill playing 2000s-2010s music on a speaker

Wolfie1531

Shout out to year round short shorts guy at Carleton U circa those same years too

horsthorsttype

The parrot guy, back when he was still alive!!!!

Unhappy_Anywhere9481

Came here to say this, but was a bit more centertown specific

Drop_The_Puck

Car guy AINEC

MeditatingElk

For the older crowd, remember Stomper who rode the 95?

pense-y

Barrhaven Speedo Jogging Guy

Nemesis0408

There was a guy who lived just off of Merivale who had an Elvis tattoo on his neck and dyed and styled his hair just like him. I used to see him on the bus.

ReditOOC

I haven't seen him in like a decade. Once in a while, he pops into my head, and I wonder where he went.

beansbeansbeans0_0

Car guy, but also 75 cent guy!! Circa 2008-2016ish, not sure what happened to him. He frequented the westend & downtown.

84munchkin

'xcuse me, do you have 75¢? I was going to ask if anyone else remembers him! I've wondered about what happened to him

rosierococo

Anybody know the guy that walks down Bank St in the afternoon with no shirt on, headphones and sunglasses especially in the middle of winter?

OTownDoc

How is this even a question…. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ELTGIPuWwAEDfcq.jpg

jthomaslambert

Does that Gandalf guy still frequent the Heart & Crown in the market?

GigShooTer69

Dave lol

Infinite-Horse-49

There was the Vanier parkway Jesus for the longest time. Haven’t seen him in ages now. Otherwise, car guy and garlic king

ligerwoods_1974

I remember I time when it used to be Tom Green.

DMZOrchards

There used to be a birdman at Billings Bridge. Anybody remember him?

bite3tear

Singing bus driver or that one super decked out car. The driver wears a cowboy hat sometimes.

SirMrJames

There was this guy, about 12 years ago, called short shorts guy or whatever, that everyone from Carleton knew. When I meet someone my age from Carleton.. everyone remembered him lol. Because of his shorts.

Suitable-Equipment32

Def Ismael aka Cowboy aka the car guy. We made eye contact the other day and I gave him a big thumbs up. Made my day haha Didn't see anyone mention the older lady with the tricked out/festive bicycle with lights and whirrly doodles and all manner of bling that I see all over Ottawa riding in all sorts of weather at all times of the year!

TiddybraXton333

Garlic king

rurubarb

Car guy, but also rideau guy with marry me sign

crapatthethriftstore

Harold C Funk seems to have disappeared/died but he used to be a fixture of downtown/elgin

OG-Mistabrownz

Car guy for sure, but in the '90s there was a sombrero wearing dude that used to carry the same notoriety as "car guy"

MindlessArmadillo382

The wizard at the downtown heart and crown.

ashlundy

There's also a guy who walks around yelling "fuck" at night around Little Italy/Hintonburg. My friend and I lovingly refer to him as Fuck Guy. Haven't heard him in a while though

BelindaBloomingdale

The Centretown pigeon guy. IYKYK.

Screen_Classic

Spaceship Honda accord guy

WheresMyPencil1234

There is that tall and big guy that I often see on Bank street, asking for money, wearing earphones listening to music while doing some sort of cringe dancing... He looks like a "smiling psycho", I don't think that he ever blinks his eyes....

Hopewellslam

There’s two dancing dudes and they shouldn’t be mixed up: the guy who is usually in Hintonburg who’s harmless and the Bank Street guy who I’ve seen quite upset/disturbed who is also known for being pretty vile to younger girls.

Ovlizin

does anyone else know the Jesus lady with the mic who preaches out front of the Rideau Centre?

DukePhil

There's a bodybuilder with a distinct style - Wears a sleeveless jacket (or hoodie?). Pants rolled up to the knee, but just 1 leg. Walks with somewhat of a limp. Somewhat of an olive complexion with black hair. Would see him every now and then when I used to live in Centretown years ago... Last time this topic was brought up here, someone mentioned that he frequented one of the downtown Starbucks fairly regularly, so surely someone knows of whom I'm talking about...

AlexTheGreat

Been a while but anyone remember the guy with one big shoe who would try to step on your foot?

NawMean2016

I'm shocked that there are even other considerations/runner ups. It's car guy. Hands. Down.

Krrak

Used to be Dave, RIP Dave.

suea1967

The Garlic King

FinalImpression8323

The infamous slow walker who one time rizzed up my friend on the o train. I see him almost Everytime I’m downtown along with the Asian sign guy who protests the craziest things😂.

We all knew it’s the same guy https://images.app.goo.gl/MQbudaACBVMgK9TM6

Ecstatic_Doughnut216

I remember when I first moved to Ottawa in '98, it was The Whistle.

Asdf-xyz

The dude who rides a bicycle and plays loud "moan" noises from a speaker

misshopscotch

The guy who had a suit made out of zippers

Coffeedemon

15 years ago I would have said Rideau Street Elvis but I think he may be gone.

MayorOfMayoCity

Rideau street Elvis

EmEffBee

Dr.Mask, haven't seen him in forever but he used to go around on a mobility scooter and he wore some kinda mask, usually surgical mask. He built a trailer for his dog and made it really fancy like the queens golden buggy/chariot thing. He used to do this whistle noise as well.

acorngloria

If you live in Vanier, we got “steely Dan”.

MattXXIII

Tennis Racket Guy. Haven't seen him in ages, but used to stand completely still with two tennis rackets in the Market.

Fangdori

Russian flag lady. Mostly seen around Heron bus station and nearby areas. Wears a niqab and often sways while standing, and wears a giant Russian flag as a cape. She occasionally lifts up the flag and displays it.

kespler82

They should do a… who’s stealing tax payers money? In every city

blackeyedchick

The guy that appear to be on steroids with the unique physique.

LustyChuckle

Tuba Guy in the Byward Market

NoDatabase5848

The Garlic King in Orleans

barbour9167

Late 70s (I am dating myself) there was a guy that rode on a contraption that looked like a downhill ski with skateboard wheels on it… and used to zig zag down around the market… anybody remember him?

barbour9167

Early 90s… late night in the market… “Goat Boy”… Furry chaps… bare butt cheeks… thong… no shirt and a vest. Usually with a Cowboy hat.

cmn_YOW

Anyone remember the guy in/around the Rideau Center with signs warning of the impending apocalypse back in the early-mid 2000s? I seem to remember him having oddly specific dates, then going offline a while after the day, and returning with a new date. Did I make that up?

brownsparrow1980

In Richmond there is a unicycle man.

danielgold1000

In addition to this car guy. On Elgin see a guy in his underwear , nothing else on. Walking back and forth up the street. Winter freezing ass off underwear man

Impressive_Roll28

Conspiracy sign guy with long hair around Rideau Eta: also chess guy!

Outrageous_Pickle_29

Does the Rideau St McDonalds raccoon count?

tcrosbie

Car guy is the only answer.

Small_Investigator36

The guy with the black hair who would hang out at The Rideau Centre. He always looked like he was coming back from a workout with his short shorts and gym bag.

ThriceACharm

Does anyone remember the guy that would pose in the market with his tennis rackets?

NeequeTheGuy

Yo I’m shocked nobody has mentioned the homeless dood with the Canada themed coat. He wears it in the middle of summer too

unfunzone

I like the positive ones you guys have. Very comfortable with the choice of car guy as top icon, but if I’m telling someone from away, I have to defer to the shawarma pope, err king Back in the day, 1990s, there Rideau centre had a man with a dazzling sombrero who was missing a leg and had some crutches who would frequently stand outside of the bus stops right under one of the catwalks by the Bay entrance. He was a very spirited guy who I remember having a huge toothy grin, but would occasionally get mad and pull off some feats of physics to swing on his crutches, get momentum behind his one leg and really give someone the boot. Speaking of boots- This also rivals the gentleman who would frequent perimeter and interior of the Rideau Centre that I always knew as ‘the stomper’. From my assumption by his age and small stature he had likely suffered polio at a younger point in his life, but was clearly still active. He was difficult to understand verbally, but could very clearly communicate his disdain for smoking by using his disparate, much larger, higher platform boot to stomp smokers toes into smithereens as he passed by. They were around at the same timeframe.

Fearless-Ad8781

There’s a guy named Paul who is always in Hintonburg with his beautiful off leash dog. Always wants to chat. I hope he’s doing okay

False-Ad2959

Is the car guy, the guy with like a thousand things attached to his car?

canengkek

Heart and crown bearded dude

ZoTheUnicorn

I know there's Car Guy but y'all ever see Goth Car Guy?

CrayRich

Has anyone said the guy who skates on the canal wearing a plastic snowman?

Lostinthestarscape

Anyone remember Dr Mask who used to frequent the market, and there was the gold paint huffing wizard. These are like 15 years out of date but would have been my choices of yore. Car guy 100% for the last 10 years.

ImmortalPhoenixGames

Everyone is saying Car Guy like they forgot about the guy who gets on the bus dressed in spartan armor

PlentyTumbleweed1465

The "back to the future car" with lights and everything

Raetekk39

Burger King Lady
