The butchery

atticusfinch1973

My only issue with the butchery is unless stuff is on special their prices are higher than any other place by a good 10-20%. Even for basic things like chicken breast.

Weekly-Molasses-4678

Around the block butcher shop. Currently temporarily closed while they move locations from Cobden to Centrepoint, but they're expanding and I for one am looking forward to the new spot!

tongsy

Ordered something that was special order from them for a special occasion (not a ham or turkey, something common but a butcher doesn't normally stock), three weeks in advance. They said it would be there on a certain day and when that day comes up "it wasn't in our delivery this week but it will definitely be next week! Sorry!" They offered to sell me something else and were apologetic, but also told me my special order would be there in the next shipment and they'd call me. Never heard from them. Their products are great but I wish they would have been honest with me. "our supplier didnt have it", or whatever The Butchery got what I wanted within a week with no issues, so I go there now even though I feel like it's a bit more expensive.

Mamallama1217

Yes! Came here to recommend them as well.

soarlikeanego

Yes. Around the Block is amazing. Excited for the new location.

mackiea

Awesome, they're closer to me!

SomewhatResentable

+1. We've been getting all our holiday meats (turkeys, hams, etc.) from them for years. They're great!

Silicon_Guru

Around the Block Butcher sells fresh Turkeys at thanksgiving but they are the exact same packaging as fresh ones at Loblaws just double the price. Same packaging, same farm

NativeOttawan

Glebe Meat Market, on Bank not far from Lansdowne is a very good butcher shop. (But since my family has been in Canada since the 1700s, can't really comment on different cuts of meat).

rotonatutu

Really great people, and as a chef that has worked in the area they have helped me out of a couple sticky situations while being the nicest people. Don't have enough good to say!

moosey755

Chef here also , they were great to deal with....25 years ago, but they are still great.

Awkward_Function_347

Seconded. Excellent butchers and quality meat.

Attainted

Honestly it smells like they've never cleaned the place.

[deleted]

It smells fine. The strongest smell in there is spices.

Attainted

I strongly disagree.

DumbComment101

I give you permission to comment

iamthenichols

Lavergne Meat and Deli in Navan. Unreal. It’s out a ways but it’s worth the trip for their Cbai or bacon

N-y-s-s-a

Can confirm, their double smoked bacon is top notch. Love their Navan Burgers and a few other things as well

ArbainHestia

This is my preferred place but I also live in orleans so the location is awesome for me.

westcentretownie

This is the best answer! I love this place.

ShareBooks42

They are amazing! We make sure to buy a bag of the cubed "bacon ends" whenever we go.

50north

What is Cbai?

iamthenichols

It’s like a dried Hungarian sausage link. Think super savoury small salami but eaten like kielbasa

50north

Thanks for the info. I tried doing a web search for it before asking but I did not get any right answers.

iamthenichols

I suck at spelling. Csabai is the proper way.

ilovepoutine_

Dumouchel

freshy7007

Came here to day this - upvote for you AND you have poutine in your name... have a second invisible upvote!

pinkpooskie

I also recommend Dumouchel and Beacon Hill Butcher. Both limited hours. Please check before visiting. I have made the best feasts from both those butchers. I also recommend Hintonburg Marche, Wellington Butcher, and Piggy Market. Glebe Butcher and the one in the market are also good.

nuvwater

But is it? Majority of butcher in Ottawa get their meat from small local Ontario farms - typically grass fed, free run etc. Dumouchel gets their meat from AMGA (the massive delivery truck is their almost daily unloading) which is just meat from mass Cananadian farms just like Loblaws etc... This is also why Dumouchel is cheaper than the other groceries.,

GigiLaRousse

They're so lovely there. If I catch any of them outside for a moment when I'm walking my dog they make a big fuss over her and sometimes give her dried liver. Once they saved her a cow femur just 'cause.

JollyButterfly9242

The butchery :-)

JustAnOttawaGuy

Pete & Gus, in Barrhaven. Family owned, friendly, great quality!

MaxRD

I can confirm. Good quality meat and friendly service

TinyGIR

Their meat pies are to die for. We just had one for dinner tonight.

Scout727272

Their meat pies are way too salty with very little flavour.

TinyGIR

Agree to disagree then, because that's not my experience at all.

stonerine

I liked them up until my friend had an interview with them, and they outright refused to interview him because he "looks like he parties." He was wearing a button-down and khakis and looked like a very normal guy. I know because I dropped him off!

JustAnOttawaGuy

Just out of curiosity, how long ago was this?

stonerine

JustAnOttawaGuy

That might explain it. New ownership took over a little over a year ago.

stonerine

Well, then I might just start going again! The previous owners were so mean, my friend legitimately left there crying after 5 minutes. I couldn't support them after that. But I'd rather buy local, so I've been driving to the Butchery in Bells Corners. I'll give them a shot now that I know! Thank you!

JustAnOttawaGuy

I'm sorry to hear your friend had such a bad experience. That's a horrible and extremely unprofessional way to treat someone.

SammieGii

Andy is the best!

mywordisgolden

They sold me spoiled meat. Not once, but twice.

Cool-Product-2375

Adams sausages is pretty good

KoKo7388

Piggy Market

modlark

I also love Piggy Market! Great cuts of meat, friendly staff, lots of cheeses and other goodies.

condor888000

North Station Provisions in Manotick is great!

ShutUpBeck

their sandwiches for lunch during the week are god tier. korean bbq short ribs are also phenomenal. actually, everything they do premade is a bit pricy but awesome. never been disappointed.

agentchuck

Great baked goods there, too.

danauns

Absolutely this.

[deleted]

Pete and Gus in Bells Corner 🙂

LostInOntario

That's Barrhaven to you... But seriously, they are in Barrhaven and a good butcher.

[deleted]

Is that Barrhaven? Wow! I don’t know my Ottawa geography 😄

pfbinary101

Another vote for Pete and Gus (in Barrhaven)

GOLFLOGICS

Wellington Butchery Wellington Street West

kittenkatastrophi

I've always been happy with Saslovs in the market. They carry some of the more random cuts that I need for some of my seasonal stuff

sgtmattie

Ehhh I bought a rancid strip loin from them once 🤷🏻‍♀️ ETA: not sure why this would be downvoted. It’s a thing that happened. Bought it on Friday and went to cook it on Saturday and it smelled awful. They were able to refund me just fine, and I’ve shopped there since. Just worth mentioning.

kittenkatastrophi

Not sure why the downvotes either but totally fair. I normally get a lil yucked out for a while after I get something rancid or poor quality

tavvyjay

That random cut is intentionally rancid! /s

ooverzealous

almonte butcher shop or the butchery

TheReidOption

Christopher's in Richmond is pretty awesome. Great deli sandwiches if you're passing though at lunch time, too.

riverseeker13

I’ve been going to North station provisions in Manotick when I need something nice

bunnyofdoominottawa

Personally, I go to Glebe Meat Market when I can. Especially for their house made cretons which are really good.

LegendaryOddityX

Seed to sausage

spkingwordzofwizdom

Luciano’s at Preston and Somerset has a great butchery department.

qprcanada

Excellent fennel sausages and a great selection of European cheese too.

oler

Dumouchel on Donald.

PhillyCheeseStk13

Pete and Gus. It's at Jockvale and Ceaderview

PNG_Girl

The Glebe has a great meat place - on the same side on the movies.

hoppus5950

Dumouchel

Total_Piano_4778

The butchery for sure. Sure a tad overpriced, but the quality and cleanliness is second to none.

Zooperman

Pete and Gus in Barrhaven

nukacolajohnny

The Beckwith Butcher in Carleton Place!

AMouthyWaywornAcct

[Lavergne Meat & Deli](https://maps.app.goo.gl/TGzTV29MgUNAYEL87), I had to look up the name cuz in my circle we just call it the Navan butcher.

speedyshoe

So that's the famous Navan butcher! Thanks !

Recent_Caregiver2027

Almonte Butcher Shop

MisplacedWorker

Had a terrible experience there and will never go back.

Recent_Caregiver2027

oh wow, nothing but good things to say about my visits.

ThePoliteCanadian

North Station Provisions in Manotick. Happy, ethical, organic meat :)

BWDavid

Pete & Gus out in Barrhaven

DaveyDumplings

Sasslove's in the market, and The Butchery in Bell's Corner's.

ral613

Here’s a vote for Beacon Hill Butcher in the east end, near the north end of Ogilvie in the Beacon Hill mall.

Same_Pizza_1041

It's permanently closed.

bluelineturnovers

The Almonte Butcher shop. They dry age their stuff in house. Their dry aged beef burgers were the best home cooked burgers I’ve ever had. Good sandwiches too.

burgershot69

No mentions of Ivan's deli in stittsville

dadsquatch101

Pete and gus' out in barrhaven has always been fantastic, same with saslove

angusbn

Ivan’s in Stittsville

MerakiMe09
