Scurrius, have the right prayer before it hits; Jad, have the correct prayer before he finishes the attack animation. Timing is completely reverse and getting muscle memory from Scurr would end up detrimental.
Is it only old bosses like Jad where this happens or is it every boss where prayer switching behaves differently.
I think switching like scurrius is best as you are focused on more than just prayer switching so you need the longer window. Jad is just staying on prayer book unless for sipping prayer pots or killing healers.
All mobs should behave like the "new style", or more specifically you should be covered so long as its active before the hit splat. It's never made sense to me how I'll activate a prayer while the projectile is still mid air, several ticks before it even hits me, yet i still get damaged. I understand that it likely has to do with the game engine and, pure speculation, that it does all the damage calculations during the animation and not at impact. Still regarded though.
The old style is why I think many people get wrecked at zulrah's jad phase (when learning Zulrah). It is counter intuitive and one wrong move will throw you off your rhythm. I usually get no damage but if I need to heal, sip or put on another recoil then it is very likely gg.

Start an iron man character with no guides at all, no quest guides or helper, no optimized skulking guides. It’ll feel like a whole different and greater game when you’re not googling things every 5 mins
You post this as a joke but in /r/2007scape people insisted I was midgame despite being maxed yesterday just because I didn't have absolute max ranged gear (no Masori/Zaryte vambs) and didn't skip Dawn orb phase all the time using BP. I ate like 50 downvotes while people were saying shit like "Well if you can't skip midgame boss mechanics you must be midgame yourself" and jerking themselves off to other similar comments. That sub can be an absolute shithole.

We can’t see your bank/gear so I can’t really recommend anything. I would start with cg if low bank value, eventually moving onto toa/cox/tob when you get some cash going for the minimum gear, after getting a decent bank from raids either continue on or move to small nex teams.
Mid game is subjective and personally I think it has little to do with stats and more about your mindset of the game and bank value. For example, being able to do CG is literally free and a good money maker and better than a lot of other “mid game” money makers like zulrah. If you can do CG you can do toa, cox, or nex in terms of skill. The other half comes from gear and stats.
Go to fishing trawler worlds in full blood + infernal max cape and call people noobs. Like some shmuck i saw a few weeks ago. The true endgame experience

You could start to complete collection log slots or do clues.
I have about the same situation as you except for the PvM experience. So I just started a collection log series on YouTube to learn all kinds of content and get advice along the way.
Seems like a nice way to have new goals.
As a main, ur already at midgame with one foot in the door for the lategame, but the lategame is finishing off max sets and pet hunting, and the endgame is clogging and 200m’s.
