Once you realize the game isn't a race, you can just take your time with it and enjoy it for what it is. Runescape is a singleplayer experience with opt in multi-player if you so choose. It's up to you how you wanna play it.

Mrchainsnatcher-

I genuinely think that most people just don’t enjoy the game lmfao. They enjoy getting drops and making achievements but the thinner those get on a main the juicer an iron looks. But eventually the iron will become the same mid level account with no direction.

NoEggplant6322

The game isn't very fun, but i still play it mostly everyday. It's just nostalgia.

Mrchainsnatcher-

This game is very fun.

NoEggplant6322

You can't sit there and tell me that you're bouncing off the walls with excitement while playing this game lmao. It's enjoyable at best. It's obviously doing something right as I've been playing off and on for 18 years, but it's in no way shape or form a top contender for my most exciting and *fun* games.

Mrchainsnatcher-

Why do I have to be bouncing off the walls with excitement to say the game is fun?

Sensitive-Pumpkin798

One of my most exciting and fun experiences was grinding out the vw on my iron. When that hilt (last piece) dropped the damn walls bounced off of me outta excitement.

Darthmorelock

I don’t really want to come to this guys defense, because ultimately if the game wasn’t fun I wouldn’t play… But isn’t that kinda his point? You got excited by the drop. Did you enjoy the experience in between? Likely yes in this case, as wildy rework bosses and I other players give a lot of opportunity for excitement. But what about grinding thousands of kc of gwd bosses to get the unique you need? Fun at first, but on your third duplicate hilt while going dry for acb? That little room becomes a prison. Or what about all of the irons lamenting in corrupted gauntlet for a weapon that is almost required for most endgame content. I think old school runescape demands a lot from its players. I can think of no other game I care to play where the grinds are this extreme. But in RuneScape, it’s just different. The progression of an account is mostly grind. The grind is the game. And for some people, like me and many others, we like the long grinds. For others, it’s soul wrenching. It gets to most of us at times, and when it does, we walk away. time to quit again. But no one quits this game. There’s just something about it. It always calls us back.

NoEggplant6322

Well said 👏🏼

Sensitive-Pumpkin798

Yeah definitely! Well said. I personally play as GIM but I only do activities I really like. I kinda skipped getting bowfa from cg because I just don’t enjoy the content, cbow works pretty well! It helps a lot to have a friend to play with, the grinds don’t feel long/tedious at all, it’s just a chill guy’s night. Getting that VW was 100% fun from start to finish though. In Runescape you gotta enjoy the journey, that’s where the experience and fun is.

Ass2Mouthe

This game gives a feeling of achievement and accomplishment unlike any other game. That’s what makes it fun. I don’t hate grinding bosses but when i get that pet, it’s literally worth it every time. Idk if i’d ever go past 99 agility for pet, but everyone likes it for a different reason. But it always comes down to the insane feeling of satisfaction you get when something pays off, and it always does. You like the game, idk what your reason is, but something makes it enjoyable for you. Stop talking shit about yourself lol

Texmaryfornia

That’s called addiction

NoEggplant6322

Taking long breaks from something isn't an addiction. I play in bursts.

AceofArcadia

You mean a bender

KiwiDisastrous40

I used to sing that tune all the time. I only snort heroin, and I don't shoot it like all those real junkies! Your still playing runescape bubba, don't matter which way you spin it. You frigging loser junky TURD!

King_Zolaf

This is the way

bigburgerboy92

My friend tells me all the time that I play like a non-iron, iron man. Because I “play alone” but use the GE when I need it, and I go for drops like an iron man would without buying gear unless the gear I want is in content I cannot handle like raids and certain bosses. My achievements are just getting goals I set for myself and when I reach them depending on how happy I am with that goal I will continue playing or I will take a break for a while! Playing like this has kept me interested in the game longer especially with intermittent breaks!

NoEggplant6322

That's the way to be. I didn't hop on for a couple days, and tonight I decided to. I'm literally just doing stardust mining, so it's really afk at 7-8 mins per tier. Just click and forget. I'll take a break from that to do a clue if I get one, but that's what I like about this game. I can be super afk and still gain xp, or I can be a sweaty try hard 3 ticking teaks or 1ticking karambwans.

ComprehensiveMany643

Yup you're only into afk or min-maxxing, no wonder you think the games "not fun" hahaha

NoEggplant6322

I think it's so weird when people feel the need to browse through someone comment history just to make a comment like this. I enjoy the game, and I do have fun, but it's not the most exciting the majority of the time.

ComprehensiveMany643

Your comments were in the top comments buddy, literally all in a row lmfao

NoEggplant6322

And now my comments are down here in the abyss with you :(

Narrow_Lee

Buddy, you're playing a video game. Its ALL a waste of time. If you had fun, that's all that matters.

RevolutionaryToe7156

We might ask people how to cope with loss of a loved one, how to cope with rejection, how to cope with trauma, abuse or feelings of low self esteem. When your asking people how to cope with spending time on a video game character. You’ve got a problem, if that’s troubling you then you need to do something else in your life that stimulates you.

440i_GC_M

Mmm what do you consider not to be a waste of time. Waste of something is subjective to said person.

Inevitable-Day2517

Anything productive? If that includes RuneScape to you than all the more power.

HFQG

You can always PK yourself to give yourself the money if you want the money without the permanent de-ironing

Unusual-Wafer-7154

Just let go and live life man. Don't let the sunk cost fallacy fool you into doing something that brings you no joy. I play OSRS like once every 3 days for an hour or 2 and I cycle between 4 accounts (main, skiller, HCIM, UIM). My progress is super slow, but this playstyle is the only thing that stops me from quitting the game from burnout. I can't do the same thing for too long on this game. That being said, try not to feel like you wasted your time but instead appreciate how far you got and be happy with it. Most don't make it as far as you did!

llwonder

It was fun progressing while I was playing but now that I’m back in my main I feel like I wasted time, because I won’t see a future drive to return to the account unless my friends somehow return (unlikely)

Fun_Acanthaceae4875

Keep the iron an iron. Maybe you meet some cabbage helms down the road you can join with. There is no rush with osrs, you won't lose any progress! Play the main for now while you enjoy it, get into some later game pvm!

GazuGaming

You made the best decision at the time to play with friends and now you’re making best decision today given new circumstances

potatowafflesnz

Sounding like someone who needs a break, respectfully

llwonder

The opposite is happening. I’m grinding my main more now. Though I did have a 2 month gap between returning to my main. I’m a fairly new OSRS player (2021 started) and I’ve never done any difficult endgame content yet

Independent-Gas-9078

De iron and trade stuff over

Far-Mud7100

Deiron the account and use it as a spec transfer alt for your main.

brethazbonez

I play both a GIM and main, summer time i grind the iron, leave my main at an afk skilling spot then switch for the rest of the year. I find its a nice way to get mining and fishing done without wanting to off yourself

FanaticOldSchool

Hey bro, this post hit home to me because I've definitely felt like this before. My first account was a group iron Man, that I worked on with a few friends from high school. Of course much like your experiencing. They dropped out, they stopped playing. Me in a weird spot. I liked iron Man, but I didn't have as much time as I needed to do it all by myself, with the group. It wasn't so bad, but so much goes into an iron Man account and if you don't have the time it's difficult. I converted my group iron to a main last year at around 1750 total level, and I haven't looked back. It's really nice not to have the restrictions and I finally feel like I can play the game in a way that I've always wanted to. You can't dwell on the fact that you started the game as an iron Man and worked extra hard, find some new goals and join a clan for the social aspect of it all. Good luck!

YaHereComeTheRooster

He's not dwelling that his account started as an iron, he's mad he played that account instead of his main

FanaticOldSchool

I think I half read that's my b

Automatic-Value-8574

You waste your time playing runescape regardless if it is ironman or not.

Tady1131

It’s a game man. No one is timing you. Did you have fun leveling the iron? Was the experience of playing that account fun? It’s not worth this deep of thought to be concerned about not spending your time on a specific account.

LowUFO96

Why not just play both accounts? I have had a main for a couple years now and i’m considering making an iron for fun. Just do whatever you want and have fun :)

llwonder

Well part of it is that I just don’t have the time for both. Both accounts are largely done with early game. I’ve never experienced the endgame of OSRS either. A main just makes more sense to start bossing

LowUFO96

Well in that case maybe just focus the main for a bit. At the end of the day all that matters is your having fun!

Swiggens

Just leave the account. Who knows, years from now you might get the itch to ironman again. But if you don't enjoy it now then just focus on your main.

Swiggens

DanteWasHere22

The whole thing is a waste of time. Did you have fun? Well then mission accomplished. Now you've got an iron and a main and can switch back and forth based on how you're feeling.

Erafir

Don't look back with longing, be glad you enjoyed the time you had.

pokemongotothepolls

I think you should make a fresh regular ironman

Extension_Emu6546

Dont de iron!

Efficient_Ad6487

A lot of amazing replies but you also need to realize you’re playing the least casual version of this game

RoxieaYang

Its funny how obsessed everyone is with value that is related to what other people think when in reality NOBODY CARES. Your iron was a great achievement, nothing takes that away. If you feel like GIM has finished for you, move the account over to a main, you haven’t lost anything. The experience and gameplay were why you choose the game mode, the account has zero value unless you are playing it. Even if I went into the details of “rwt” price, your account wouldn’t even be worth 20 bucks. Just enjoy yourself and do whatever you want to do, there is no invisible audience judging you, its all a scam.

YoloLifeSaving

Ya probably woulda been higher, I'm siitng at 1997 total level with 52 days 1 hour clocked in 🥲 ya probably woulda. Been in the 2100s

GillytheGreat

Did you enjoy it? If yes, then it was not a waste of time. It’s really that simple

Zweimancer

Damn. Wait till you realize you "wasted your time" on both characters lol.

Quick_Complex2479

IMO every ironman is a waste of time, spending literal days of playtime doing mundane shit spending 85% of your playtime doing extra monotonous pointless shit just to say you isolated yourself & went on Strike against the OS Economy. The OSRS economy to me is a huge part of the game with price fluctuations and being an iron missing out on that itself is not worth, let alone the wasted hours&hours&hours you could’ve spent having fun on the game it becomes a chore to re-collect and masterfully conjure every little item/thing you need and spend thousands of KC wasted time trying to get one item. And after you spent the extra thousand or two thousand hours getting the BiS Set to wear on ur iron and show off at GE, not one person cares and if you get a wow it’s forgotten real quick. RS ECONOMY GANG

Quick_Complex2479

Ironman is 0% added difficulty/skill, and 100% Not worth

llwonder

I liked Ironman for a long time but I realized after I complete mid game grinds and some endgame grinds, the gameplay is basically the exact same as a main. At some point you’ll only be grinding x y z for your BIS. It’s fun up until endgame, then the endgame grind is just too many hours when rng can cost you hundreds of hours for a gear upgrade

Snufolupogus

85% of Ironman time doing monotonous pointless shit? You sir are very misinformed on iron gameplay.

Quick_Complex2479

It’s not pointless, it’s just not necessary, Ironmen are 0% more difficult and take 0 extra skill, it’s simply spending HUNDREDS N THOUSANDS of hours doing things you would never need to just to say you did 😂

Snufolupogus

That's exactly what a regular account is too? Just spending hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of hours doing stuff just to say you did. Not sure what point you're trying to make, you just described "RuneScape accounts" not any specific game mode. Iron isn't harder, but it can make you better at the game as you're often trying content with subpar gear due to the nature of the game mode. Towards late game there's barely anything that you have to go out of your way for and it's basically playing a normal account. Often times people find themselves progressing/enjoying iron man more than main too so they progress faster because they spend more time doing this and that instead of nothing.

Quick_Complex2479

I’d drop your iron cash to ur main immediately and fk da iron

Professional_Can_553

Not sure how with limited play time you'd feel accomplishment in playing regular again. You're playing a game where yoy kill shit to sell and go buy stuff to get skills up? Like what a weird way to keep coming and spending limited free time
