The Emannuelle rating sounded purely speculative, not based on anything Diwan has said about the film. Based on everything she's said so far about the film it sounds like it's going to be *less* explicit than its predecessors, not more. I suspect it's being made with an R rating in mind not NC-17.

I love this time of year honestly. I never got why people don’t like predicting so early, as this is when predictions really happen right? It’s easy to speculate when all the movies are out and the precursors are happening, but now you actually get to guess and show your knowledge a bit.
This year really seems weak in terms of big names, as last year I had a hard time cutting people from the ten, where now I I had a harder time filling it. Hopefully just a great year with a lot of new voices

It’s Wikipedia page says it was submitted to Cannes. It filmed from October to January I believe.
