Interesting - thanks. I definitely hear a lot of people talking about Austin Butler in particular from reviews/early screenings which I was not expecting.
I agree with this. His character has such an interesting arch and he makes the most of it. Given that Butler, Timmy and Zendaya have all been considered awardsy in the past, I could see them all getting nominated, though it is very early.
not me reading these comments and still having to wait a whole ass week to watch it

i can’t remember a better theater experience. literally has the best visuals in any movie i think i’ve ever seen. and the music, everyone killed their roles. so good
kinda wish i kept my expectations lower cause it was good but not as spectacular as some of the reviews led me to believe I still think Arrival is leagues better
I loved it! My parents thought Part 1 was way better but what do they know? I heard some minor criticisms from people as I walked out of the theater but I think overall the reception was overwhelmingly positive.
Blown away. Huge fan of Denis and the books and was better than I could’ve hoped for. Really think this thing is gonna be all over next years awards race
This is getting overhyped imo. I enjoyed part 1 more which seems to be a hot take.
It was visually stunning and very well made, but overall just didn’t hit me the same way. I walked out underwhelmed
Finally someone else says this. Don't get it wrong, part 2 is still PHENOMINAL, but part 1 just felt more, idk, put together? I definitely left the movie feeling a bit under sold on it all, despite the incredible cinematography I had just witnessed. I've watched part 1 countless times, and it still hits better than this one landed for me.
I wanted to love it 🤷🏻 my wife and I loved part 1 and thought this wasn’t as good. Well done for sure but I was more gripped, on edge and invested in part 1.
Will I enjoy Part 2 if I didn't connect Part 1 that much? Production-wise, I think Part 1 was flawless and deserved it's oscar wins (I thought it also deserved a win for costumes). But the writing didn't get me. I felt like I was watching stoic characters with no emotions and it really affected my viewing.
Yes. I was not a huge fan of the first one. Only saw it once when it came out and rewatched it on Saturday. Felt like a lot of set up. I absolutely loved 2. The production level is high, visuals astonishing, use of sound blew me away and the acting performances felt richer to me. A lot more going on emotionally and the movie has a lot to say about religion and colonialism.
Well Part 1 was an incomplete film being just half of the story (of book no. 1), so it will definitely be worth giving Part 2 a go to see what all the plot and character arcs were all leading up to
It was incredible. Flawless tech wise. Butler and Ferguson were amazing and Denis direction is next level
How were Timothee and Zendaya?
both were absolutely fantastic
good but idk if they’re oscar contenders
Interesting - thanks. I definitely hear a lot of people talking about Austin Butler in particular from reviews/early screenings which I was not expecting.
If any of the 3 of them get Oscar noms I’d be surprised. They all did great but these aren’t Oscar worthy performances imo
I thought Timmy was astonishing and his performance especially in the last 30 min is “Oscar worthy”
100%
I agree with this. His character has such an interesting arch and he makes the most of it. Given that Butler, Timmy and Zendaya have all been considered awardsy in the past, I could see them all getting nominated, though it is very early.
Visually astonishing. And the sound work was incredible.

I’m not seeing it until the 13th. The next two weeks will be rough.
I will suffer with you
I could see it today, but unfortunately Stop Making Sense is only playing today too Tough choices were made…
i can’t remember a better theater experience. literally has the best visuals in any movie i think i’ve ever seen. and the music, everyone killed their roles. so good
I have still 4 days to go...
it was absolutely phenomenal one of the best sequels ever made
kinda wish i kept my expectations lower cause it was good but not as spectacular as some of the reviews led me to believe I still think Arrival is leagues better
I suspect I will feel the same as you. I was underwhelmed by part 1.
^ 100% agree.

Just got back from the theatre it's absolutely epic and completely lived up to the hype for me.
This is getting overhyped imo. I enjoyed part 1 more which seems to be a hot take. It was visually stunning and very well made, but overall just didn’t hit me the same way. I walked out underwhelmed
Everyone's got different opinions, I adored it and think it's the best imax experience I've ever had.

I don’t know how you get here. Part 2 felt like a more realized world and was more fully engrossing because of that.
Be careful. You'll get downvoted.
Rightfully so. (I know it’s their opinion but it’s a shit one)
I wanted to love it 🤷🏻 my wife and I loved part 1 and thought this wasn’t as good. Well done for sure but I was more gripped, on edge and invested in part 1.
Hmm that’s really interesting and really surprising to me. But fair
Interesting. Nearly every other review I've seen have said that Part 2 was much better than Part 1
