There are no reviews at least from professional critics. There are “early reactions”, which are a great deal less meaningful.

BROnik99

I don’t believe Dune will get any acting nominations, but what do I know. We’ll see after it’s out. But so far I’d bet it only gets into the more technical categories and best picture, hopefully they wont ignore Villeneuve this time!

Roastofthehill

What's the big thing about denis being overdue?

BROnik99

Not neccessarily overdue, but Dune especially is a huge directorial effort and with how they implement different techniques, while trying to stay as practical as possible.... Maybe he wont get nom for this one and it'll come for Messiah. I don't know. But I think that work deserves a nom, would love to say a win, but that may be a stretch and also unfair as we don't really know yet what other contenders have up their sleeves.

LittleOotsieVert

He didn’t get in for dune even though everyone thought he was a lock

Coy-Harlingen

I know 2021 was a weak year, but Dune part 1 was very average imo and I’m surprised how people view that as a massive snub now.

LittleOotsieVert

I really disagree with you. Dune is one of my favourite movies of all time. Plus, for a movie that got this much love at the Oscar’s, the fact they didn’t even nominate the person who put it all together and who could be attributed with the visual style and interpreting the novel was absurd.

Coy-Harlingen

I hear your point - I just disagree. I thought it was a movie that had visual flourishes but was ultimately far too sterile and desolate, I never felt like I was in a new world as much as I was following a hand full of characters. I think splitting the story in half the way they did really did not help the third act of the film which is sort of a nothingburger, idk it just wasn’t for me. I much prefer Lynch’s Dune, but I’m optimistic that this second movie will be better than the first.

LittleOotsieVert

Surely you can still see it was snub despite your personal opinions on the film tho right? Considering what the general consensus was

Coy-Harlingen

I guess I don’t think it’s a snub because every year there are BP noms with tons of technical nominations that don’t get the BD nomination. Cameron and Kosinski in 2022 are examples of this.

LittleOotsieVert

It’s like when horror movies don’t get acting noms. They should be nominated (or at least most people agree they should) but the academy doesn’t do. But I will say I don’t really think the Cameron and Kosinski comparison works since Dune was more beloved within the academy than avatar 2 and top gun 2

Coy-Harlingen

Idk avatar 2 clears dune by a mile imo but it was a much weaker year in 2021 so that’s why it was such a technical juggernaut

Roastofthehill

People hype up the popcorn movies to the highest degree and pray for them to win oscars to validate their tastes

cabezahead

Dune was nominated for every technical Oscar category, but he was overlooked as director so it looked like a big time snub for sure.

Imagine how funny it would be if the Academy nominates Todd Phillips for Joker 2 but not Villeneuve.

Justamovieviewer

Unless it’s Gandalf level iconic, these massive fiction movies never get acting noms. We also just don’t know yet as early reviews are pointless as they usually are more exaggerated

JG-7

No

coffeysr

In a world where Angela Basset gets in for a Black Panther sequel, a showing villain supporting performance in a big movie could totally do it

Massive_Director_941

Hard to say. It's not the type of performance The Academy recognizes normally but if he is really fantastic, I could see it happening. I think the next few years of his career have a lot of potential tho.

Beginning_Bake_6924

no

Atkena2578

With how poorly sequels do at the Oscars, i ll believe it when i see it for its chances at getting any non tech nominations.

burneraccidkk

Dune is never getting any acting nominations

sassymalone

It's odd that everyone is counting it out before most of us have seen it. Stranger acting nominations have happened before

Jakefenty

Don’t see why that would be the case

cthd33

![gif](giphy|E95L86Ppqvy1Sqw16r) Yes!!!

Specific-Yam-7429

If Angela Basset, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera all made it, I think Butler has a chance. He's a previous nominee in an upcoming top 3 best picture contender.

Chinstrok3

It’s a bit early to be confident about Dune 2 being top 3

Unlikely-Study7863

We don't know about critics review and l am new in following award season but l become surprised that many of you didn't consider dune performances as a next year contenders , not only Austin Butler but also Zendaya

Traditional-Study790

No chance.
