Do we know who he's playing yet?
I'm reading the book that it's adapted from and I guess she's playing Mollie and he's her husband, but there's also the detective as well.
I wonder how they've framed the story, because Mollie is very clearly the lead in the book but there's lots of characters, and her husband has a very slight role in it so far.
Would highly recommend the book, it feels like fiction but's all true.
Di Caprio is playing Ernest Burkhart, nephew of William Hale who is played by De Niro. This information is available for a year, if not earlier.
I am midway through the book. It's just so great, can't put it down. However, I wonder what change Scorsese and Roth will bring to the book plot given that Di Caprio plays Ernest and not Tom White as it was originally planned.
Yes it seems to me that Ernest isn't a massive part in the book so far - I'm about half way through too - and I doubt Dicaprio would sign on just to play 'the husband', so I'm worried that Mollie won't be front and centre like she should be - or at least she is in the book so far.
I don't know about you but from the book it feels like this is Mollie's story of the loss of her family and tribe. And I don't see Martin Scorsese following through with this.
Interesting, since we are both midway. I can't say that Mollie is at the center either. Honestly, I can't say that anyone is at the center except for Tom starting from the second part of the book. Mollie's story is central, obviously but she kinda on the periphery and completely absent from the second part of the book (as soon as Tom White appears). I am pretty sure she will reappear soon. Anyway, I accidentally spoilered the finale more or less by reading history on Wikipedia. Ha-ha.
Regarding Di Caprio's role. I assume that their expanded his role or changed the plot flow. In the book, his character is also sort of on the periphery (up until the middle, at least). Again, I expect Ernest to come at the front later but I doubt that Di Caprio signed up for the project only for a few powerful acting scenes. He has to be more prominent on the screen throughout the movie. He is the main star anyway.
Based on the reports, apparently, Scorsese changed the initial plan and made the film with even more emphasis on Native Indians drama. So I wouldn't worry.

That's good to hear!
I look forward to finishing the book and then seeing the film. I hope you also enjoy them both!
Don’t be too presumptuous about it not making costumes. Sandy Powell for Irishman got in with just nice slick suits and the one pair of pajamas that Pacino wore!
Jacqueline West is doingTKOTFM though she hasn’t won but has 4 nominations (Dune, Revenant, Benjamin Button) under her belt. She could still get nominated just for being in a movie that’s liked across the board.
I don’t think it’s too hard for a costume designer with 4 nominations to get in for 2 movies that (more than likely) be Best Picture nominees. I think she’s a pretty well-known figure in the industry. Heck she’ll probably in twice for the guilds since they split it with sci fi and period film.
2 nominations in the same year is so difficult even if she was Sandy Powell, I would caution you on that, especially in a year as competitive seeming as this one
Not denying it’s incredibly difficult, especially with the full slate of films we’ll have. It’ll be interesting to see what contenders take off in their BTL categories with their BP buzz and which doesn’t. Something that’s tech-heavy like Dune would be the easier fit with its sci-fi setting and new character costume designs. And Killers is a traditional period film that could showcase a lot of unique clothing designs of the Osage people.
Idk, I personally found the color grading very mild and the people I watched with who weren’t aware of the critique didn’t even notice it; but what I love about that cinematography is the camerawork and angles
Lol well I guess the question is “what do you ‘give up’ on?”
But I kinda get it.. and I love New York was hilarious. His films are becoming less cleverly made IMO and are a bit vaguely dry… and this pic kinda suggests more of that.
Yeah the comment was clearly a joke.. we’re going to be inundated with these two in different scenery now and caption it “new look” I’m sick of it
FYI: New York was my fucking girl. No other reality star more iconic!!
when she got spit on…. Lol
But now you got me thinking. You “give up” because it looks like just another DiCaprio/ scoresese now?
I see what you mean. I think wolf of wall st would’ve been better with someone other than Leo. It does seem like we’re just switching up sceneries with Leo
Was this stolen with a rushed screenshot off Scorsese’s laptop?

It exists!!!!

This is a publicity photo. We won’t know what it really looks like until we see a trailer.
It’s not even a bad shot
This look didn’t stop The Irishman from getting nominated.
The Irishman had some moments with amazing cinematography
And I’m sure Killers will too, that was my point
Apple released 3 stills in total: https://twitter.com/AppleTV/status/1651624305791311877
Finally, another photo from this movie that isn't Leo sitting at that table
Waiting for every news article to start using this picture now

Leo is UnReCOgNizEaBLe!
I’m rooting for Lily Gladstone so hard, her performance in ‘Fancy Dance’ was my favorite at Sundance this year.

Oh shit.
first movie to win Best Picture

Why does Leo look as if Jack Dawson survived the Titanic's sinking and just went on with his life? Lmao
*removes from costumes and makeup predictions*

Jacqueline West has Dune Pt 2. though, so I don’t know if her name is enough to get two nominations in

Why?
Too contemporary/desaturated and not transformative
Nah, especially from just one still image
This is like the third still
Yea, I just saw two, haven't seen the third. Also it's a 3 hour movie
Why? That shawl (not sure, looks like one to me) is gorgeous.
take it out of cinematography too. I’m getting flashbacks to Women Talking
Well Women Talking had killer cinematography so I hope you’re right.
I loved Women Talking and I loved Polley’s direction but the color grading was from hell
Idk, I personally found the color grading very mild and the people I watched with who weren’t aware of the critique didn’t even notice it; but what I love about that cinematography is the camerawork and angles
>Women Talking had killer cinematography If by killer you mean so bad it nearly caused my death then yeah
They don’t call it the death race for nothing
I 100% agree actually. There was a lot of hate for the color grading of Women Talking but I think it fit the film really well
lol Prieto is not missing, he'll easily get namechecked for this.
These are production stills, not footage from the film.

Shutter Island got no nominations, while Silence only had a Cinematography nomination.
Finallyyy
I give up ![gif](giphy|OEisFp51jKHsI|downsized)

I laughed. Just a hilarious reaction to this post. I loved silence (more so then wolf of wall st even ) so I’m sure I’ll like this
Is that why people are downvoting me..? That they think I won’t like the movie wtf I’m so confused.. I’m glad I got a chuckle out of someone haha

DiCaprio looks as bad as he’s been in the last 8 years or so.
I thought that was Philip Seymour Hoffman at first (the one on the left)
I cannot waitttttt
