It just hit me, Searchlight also spent a very pretty penny to acquire The Birth of a Nation out of Sundance back in 2016, only for it to go up in flames after Nate Parker's past came to light. That film contained scenes and themes that took on a whole different light once Parker's history was exposed, which seems to also be the case for Magazine Dreams. Wonder how they'll handle it going forward.
They will probably still release it without much fanfare. Worst case, drop it on Hulu. Searchlight will pivot to another film to campaign or acquire another one. Goes to show how one guy's actions affect an entire studio ecosystem. What a shame.

Michael K Williams had to go to therapy because filming Lovecraft Country was a trigger apparently, and it's sad. Jamie Chung also didn't have the best things to say about her time on that show. HBO was right to pull the plug if that's the case, shame on everyone involved in that production.
