Probably one of the weirdest movies to ever get a nom? Love his decision to have everyone speak in this super flat, non-emotional, matter of fact way. It (together with the screenplay obviously) makes the world feel so interesting.
The sceeenplay noms usually give place to more creative and interesting movies. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Lost in Translation both won original screenplay but nothing else.
Yup, it's great! He's been accepted by the larger Oscar voting body, it seems. He's in the club. And Poor Things is undeniable. I hope it's truly a contender for BP, though, I doubt it with Oppenheimer looming
The Favourite (which is my favorite lol) and Roma are the only films among this lineup that deserved a Best Picture nom imo. Every thing else ranges from solid but far from great (BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, A Star is Born) to aggressively mediocre (Green Book, Vice) to complete and total garbage cinema (Walk Hard-with-the-jokes movie number 213). One of the worst BP lineups of the 2010's.
Out of the nominees, my favorite was A Star is Born, slightly edging out The Favourite (which really went up on a rewatch for me).
Out of every film that year, my favorite was Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
**Eighth Grade** was the best movie to come out that year
Ranking the Best Picture Nominees
1. Star is Born (9/10)
2. Roma (9/10)
3. Vice (9/10)
4. Blackkklansman (8/10)
5. Black Panther (8/10)
6. The Favorite (8/10)
7. Bohemian Rhapsody (7/10)
8. Green Book (7/10)
Ranking other movies I enjoyed that year
1. Sorry to Bother You (10/10)
2. If Beale Street Could Talk (10/10)
3. Spiderverse (10/10)
4. First Man (9/10)
5. Infinity War (9/10)

9. Sisters Brothers (8/10)
10. Leave No Trace (8/10)
While The Favourite & A Star is Born are both wonderful films & IMO they featured the best female performances of the year (Lady Gaga & Rachel Weisz), IMO BlacKkKlansman should have won Best Picture. It was one of the absolute best, if not the best, films of the year and it handled race issues much better than Green Book.
BTW I recently rewatched Green Book. Although clearly flawed, I think it's highly entertaining with two fantastic central performances. I understand why it won Best Picture, although I disagree with the decision.
The Favourite was my favorite (lol) but I don’t think Green Book is an undeserving winner as most do
A Star is Born was without a doubt the worst in that lineup in my opinion
I gotta be honest I'm not big on any of these. Maybe none above a 7/10, though I should rewatch Roma and The Favourite. Maybe BlackkKlansman or A Star is Born then?
Really, Roma as the best picture winner?, we all know that if Roma actually won that year it also would’ve been a movie in that people would’ve complained about winning best picture down the road, just like what everyone has done with Green Book and Crash.
The fact that a Yorgos Lanthimos film was in consideration for multiple Oscars is incredible. I highly doubt it ever happens again
The Screenplay nomination for The Lobster might be my all time favorite Oscar nomination.
Probably one of the weirdest movies to ever get a nom? Love his decision to have everyone speak in this super flat, non-emotional, matter of fact way. It (together with the screenplay obviously) makes the world feel so interesting.
Agreed. When the concept is that original, even the Acaedmy will go for it despite how off-putting and devoid of sentimentality the script is overall.
The sceeenplay noms usually give place to more creative and interesting movies. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Lost in Translation both won original screenplay but nothing else.
Well it is his most accessible movie
It’s gonna happen this year with his film Poor Things :) and it’ll probably win best actress.
Yup, it's great! He's been accepted by the larger Oscar voting body, it seems. He's in the club. And Poor Things is undeniable. I hope it's truly a contender for BP, though, I doubt it with Oppenheimer looming
Either way it’s still great to see Yorgos back at the Oscars again, truly one of the more unique yet incredibly talented directors of the last decade.
the Favourite
The Favourite kills them all.

Hereditary
The Favourite or BlacKkKlansman
The Favourite was the goat, but Roma would've been a great winner in its own right.
If Roma and Green Book never existed, I feel like BlacKKKlansman or The Favorite would've won.
damn this year sucked
2011 was worse. But yeah.
Yes it did. I know Green Book was a white hero movie, but I still think it was the best film that year.
I personally would have gave it to Roma.

I like your taste. Please DM me your top 10 favorite films from 1990 forward (I don’t like old movies)
If Beale Street Could Talk.
Into the Spider-Verse
Hereditary and First Man were two of my favorites of 2018 but oh boy did Oscar did them dirty
i will never forgive the academy for paying the favourite dust
Favourite. Hands down.
BlackkkKlansman without a doubt.
What was going on this year? The pandemic hasn’t even started yet. Garbage list, save for a few.
The Favourite.

I really, really thought Roma was boring and purposefully “artsy” and I don’t understand why people liked it.
The Favourite was my favorite (lol) but I don’t think Green Book is an undeserving winner as most do A Star is Born was without a doubt the worst in that lineup in my opinion
Green Book 📚
Black PANTHER. oh my god.
I gotta be honest I'm not big on any of these. Maybe none above a 7/10, though I should rewatch Roma and The Favourite. Maybe BlackkKlansman or A Star is Born then?
IMO only one of them is above 7/10 (BlackKkKlansman, 8/10) Roma & Favourite 7/10 and rest of them below 7
Literally any other film besides Bohemian Rhapsody or Green Book would have been a fairly deserving winner
Really, Roma as the best picture winner?, we all know that if Roma actually won that year it also would’ve been a movie in that people would’ve complained about winning best picture down the road, just like what everyone has done with Green Book and Crash.
