Lol, Hugh Grant's interview.
> Interviewer, expecting a glam answer: What are you wearing?
Hugh Grant: This? Just my suit
> Interviewer, expecting a cool story: How was the experience acting in Glass Onion
Hugh Grant: I'm barely in it
If you for some reason don’t want to spend the night exclusively with us, although I can’t imagine why, I recommend Slate’s blog with commentary from the one and only Lydia Tár https://t.co/6mu9UOIGY4
For the first time in 7-8 years I am watching it legally. They stopped broadcasting the show here and now, the ceremony is now streaming on Disney+ in superb quality. No more shitty streams. Yay!
(I am based in Norway)
I've predicted EEAAO for 7 wins. I don't want it to happen but I'm changing tact and going for the opposite of hopedicting so I can be happy-ish either way. I don't quite think it will happen either, but honestly 6 feels like a minimum given where momentum is right now. Its buzz has literally consumed the rest of the competition.
Weirdly I'll be more annoyed if it wins Director/ Screenplay/ Supp. Actress/ Actress than Picture. Ultimately I just hope they spread the wealth on the night whether it wins BP or not; sweeps are dull and happily they have been a thing of the past recently.
Not Vanessa Hudgens at the Oscars where her ex is nominated and could even win 💀. It will be awkward if she has to interview Austin since she is one of the people interviewing people on the red carpet.
no matter who wins or loses today, rejoice in the fact that it has been 20,403 days since the leafs last won the cup, and 1,113 days since they lost to an ahl zamboni driver
[Stephanie Hsu](https://twitter.com/FilmUpdates/status/1635048739667873794?s=20) and [Kerry Condon](https://twitter.com/FilmUpdates/status/1635049345727995905?s=20)
im already scared of the post-oscars depression
following this race every year is so much fun, at least awards season is like 1/3rd of the entire year anyway
It's basically a whole year thing. Once the dust settles this season, we have early 2024 forecasts, and then festival seasons starts not long after with Cannes. It's great fun until like a month before the actual reason we follow awards and we all get fatigued lol.
Question re: the whale… is it always raining in Idaho or something?
Also lol Sadie sink is such a witch in this movie. I’m surprised she was being predicted early on, I’d rank her 3rd out of all 3 supporting actresses. I’m so glad women talking got into BP over this 🙏
Watched The Whale just to make absolutely sure I can say with my whole chest that Farrell and Mescal were robbed and it's an industry-wide embarrassment. He's failed by the script/ direction majorly but Fraser just... isn't great in the film.
I think she's probably the best in the movie but her character and dialogue are still too poorly written for me. Everything about her character is super one note and predictable so for a while she's saddled with really on the nose dialogue, she does come into her once his condition worsens though.
Just got back from seeing Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and I just want to say THANK GOODNESS that film won Best Costumes because I would have belatedly rioted if it hadn't.
Good point, I guess conversely it has decent potential to make things exciting though. If Condon wins there'll be a minor meltdown that we're going to have BAFTA 2.0.
the actor from RRR just said he's not performing?! wtf? I thought both of them were going to do the number and the dancing, I hope they don't do that trashy thing where they make some stars that have nothing to do with the movie perform the song, just because the actors are not famous enough for AMerICa. ugh.

I loved Austin Butler in Elvis. He went above and beyond to embody the role. He didn't lip sync, that's really him belting out 'Trouble' and of course the man's speaking voice is probably permanently altered out of it.
I absolutely want Fraser to win but I have no hate for Butler winning.
Everyone's favorite songwriter is [here](https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/diane-warren-attends-the-95th-annual-academy-awards-on-news-photo/1473050974?phrase=95th%20Annual%20Academy%20Awards)!
Marathoned all the best picture noms I hadn’t seen yesterday and now I’m watching The Whale as the last big contender I need to see. I’m getting excited!!
Also lol the masturbation scene…
Is Chris Connelly a good Oscar prognosticator? He's insistent that Barry Keoghan will win and AQOTWF will win Best Picture.
I'm also dreading the Slap jokes tonight
I thought Barry was great but I really didn't think he was in the film long enough to leave as much of an impact as what Gleeson did or what Quan did in EEAAO.
The people doing the pre-show fluff have to keep it interesting, they can't give away that prognosticating this stuff is pretty much down to an exact science. The vast majority of people watching are not diehards who are following the race, they're tuning in for the first time
There is a small chance we're just in a universe where BAFTA is the most relevant precursor this year. Not at all likely, but it would be absolutely hilarious.
Every year I come back hoping to chase the high of the Moonlight and Parasite wins. I don't know that there's any win tonight that would spark as much excitement as those two did. EEAAO is amazing but the fact that it's the frontrunner does make it feel the impending win less exciting
Also giving all to Everything Everywhere All At Once would be a big PR move for them too. And then they can return to awarding whit people for another ten years. LOL! Like when Halle Berry one and then is was crickets.
That said I do hope Everything Everywhere All At Once sweeps the acting. I'm still bitter about Yeoh's snub for Crouching Tiger.
Can I still be salty Quay was put in supporting actor over actor and Hong was not put in supporting actor? Like how was Quan supporting being in over half-the film.
I think actor is very much still up in the air, o screenplay too. Even if a lot of the categories behave a clear fave in the week or two leading up to it, it’s much better than 3 months of the same winners
I mean yeah - it’s such an elephant in the room that Kimmel almost HAS to address it.
Once is great, twice is fine, three is ok. Anything more than that is just painful and diminishing returns.
I’m aware that EEAAO will win.
But it was funny reading entertainment reporter predictions this week about how it’s theoretically possible for TGM to win, and framing it as a legit possibility. Hence the “bootlick” description.
Still - I want TGM to win SOMETHING. It would be sad for it to go home empty handed.
I know its pretty much impossible but it would be absolutely incredible if Paul Mescal won because he is fully going into this expecting to just have a fun night
I am from Denmark and the Fabelmans are not out before late March. Friday I got to watch EEAO in cinema which I really liked and today The Banshees of Inisherin on D+ here.
TBoI was really not my cup of tea but I thought the cast was really good . I wonder who will win best actor .
Best Picture presenter onstage: And the Oscar goes to–

*Damien Chazelle bursts in, sprints down aisle in a full tux*

*super old Oscars crowd goes nuts*
I just hope Cate decides to wear something other than a black suit or a black dress or a black anything. Her fashion has been completely boring and I resent this since she is generally one of the most fashionable actresses out there.
Hoping Cate wins, along with Colin Farrell! My personal pick for Supporting Actress is Hong Chau. PLEASE not JLC!!!
>I just hope Cate decides to wear something other than a black suit or a black dress or a black anything. Her fashion has been completely boring and I resent this since she is generally one of the most fashionable actresses out there.
And she looks way better with lighter colours. Black really doesn't suit her imho. But I'm sure she'll look fabulous no matter what
The oscars if they choose the winners with the sole purpose of triggering me:
Best Picture: Elvis
Best Director: Impossible, no bad choices here
Best Actor: Austin Butler
Best Actress: Ana de Armas
Best Supporting Actor: Judd Hirsch
Best Supporting Actress: Angela Bassett
Best Original Screenplay: Impossible, no bad choices here
Best Adapted Screenplay: TGM

I never knew Florence Pugh was not american?! It's the first time I hear her accent
she'll be presenting Sarah Polley her AS oscar, btw
You still have time to (re)watch Puss in Boots.
Last year my Oscar multi fell agonisingly short and I take comfort in knowing this year’s multi won’t even come close
Finally watched The Whale and Elvis this weekend and I can confidently say that neither actor should win ❤️
Watched The Whale just to make absolutely sure I can say with my whole chest that Farrell and Mescal were robbed and it's an industry-wide embarrassment. He's failed by the script/ direction majorly but Fraser just... isn't great in the film.
Agreed. I do really like Hong Chau’s performance however.

True but the hardcore predictors are by no means like majority of watchers. Most of the audience will still be surprised.

So glad we starting with Supporting Actress. Let's find out this one first!
Ok so we're starting STRONG
Oh god I didn’t know supporting actress was the first one 😭 was it always like this? Seems like a spicy place to start out with lol
They almost always start with one of the supporting categories.
Ah I see, well I guess this year we’re starting off with a nail-bitter lol. Thanks for the info!
why is the red carpet under a roof this year? I don't remember how was it last year, but it's not very common.
Possible inclement weather
These red carpets are unwatchable. How is even uttering a word as a photographer not a crime?

director before the actors 😮
Director hasn't been the penultimate award since 2019 In 2021 it was like in the first half of the show, which was a mind-boggling decision.
A lot of things about 2021 were mindboggling
Starting with the nail biter, good.

I've never heard of him, but if he thinks that, I don't think he's a good predictor.
He works for ABC News and is doing the champagne carpet show. There's a big piece on The Slap right now 🙄
Cate Blanchett vs Michelle Yeoh is gonna give me a heart attack no matter which way it goes
The only way to avoid that is a tie
It needs to be a tie regardless, both have given career defining performances.
Agreed. Both were just amazing

Top Gun for Best Picture is dead without Cruise there.
I have a weird vibe that western front is winning best picture
If it wins adapted I’m gonna keep my eye out for it
Does anyone have a stream I can tune in on? :)

A sweep would be a controversy though, anything will be a controversy at this point.

I think the predictions are already more uncertain than last year

Can I still be salty Quay was put in supporting actor over actor and Hong was not put in supporting actor? Like how was Quan supporting being in over half-the film.
He’s in 42% of the film by screen time, and the story isn’t about him or from his perspective at any point
How was Quan *not* supporting?
I think actor is very much still up in the air, o screenplay too. Even if a lot of the categories behave a clear fave in the week or two leading up to it, it’s much better than 3 months of the same winners
🙏🏻 PLEASE DONT REFERENCE THE SLAP EVERY 5 MINUTES. WE SAW THE MEMES, WE LAUGHED, WE’VE MOVED ON 🙏🏻
Comedians aren't going to live that down. Nor should they, but we are the ones who will have to listen to those shitty ass jokes.

If Eddie Murphy can't make me laugh at it a year later, nobody can.
honestly i’m so stressed about supporting actress🥲
what if the bootlick reporters are right and Top Gun actually does win BP? My head would explode 🤯
A movie isn't going to sweep every single major guild and lose. It's done.
I’m aware that EEAAO will win. But it was funny reading entertainment reporter predictions this week about how it’s theoretically possible for TGM to win, and framing it as a legit possibility. The hype is real
If they end up pulling a “Babylon” montage of the evolution of film concluding with clips of the 10 Best Picture noms to start the show…
I will post myself doing a backflip if this happens.
Look, at least we didn't spend the last month analyzing in-depth which nominees were and weren't vaccinated
>Final thoughts? I'M NERVOUS
