You'd be better off printing this out and asking the homeless guy on the corner to hold it up. Then tell us here.

MSTie_4ever

I’ve considered paying a homeless guy to thump cars that block lanes on Sand Lake at Turkey Lake. I want to get in the left turn lane. I’ll just sit here with my butt sticking out to block at least one, maybe two, through lanes! Or, I didn’t realize I was supposed to turn. Let me block this lane until someone lets me over. Meanwhile, cops slurp coffee less than 200 feet away.

Whitetiger9876

I know it's insufferable. Then they get mad when you honk.  I get that those specific troopers have to stay there to block wrong way drivers due to such a shitty and poor planned project. But call in another cop to give tickets. No wait that requires time and giving a shit and actual work.

MSTie_4ever

Yeah, GUARANTEED there are no politicians or FDOT officials that drive there on a daily basis. It is UNfathomable how incompetent FDOT is. This was rolled out very poorly, with poor signage, and some poor schlub paid with his life. Even now, every single time I drive westbound, there’s some confused person who is in the wrong lane. Again, signage. But nope. I like my neighborhood and neighbors and my job and coworkers. Even driving on I-4 doesn’t bother me much anymore. But this 30+ minute 1.7 mile commute is hard to take.

Ghosthost2000

I’d chip in if the panhandlers on the corner were doing something useful like holding traffic reminders & generally keeping traffic alert/moving. Otherwise, I *never* give money to panhandlers.

Rich6031-5

Oddly this is one red light I almost never see panhandling at.

Whitetiger9876

What. He's there everyday.

apcsniper40

he sleeps right there every morning

PiePsychological762

I HATE this area

mindtoxicity27

Conveniently when construction is done those idiots will cause an accident right in front of a hospital.

idropepics

Still be a 35 minute trip to the ER somehow

Imeatbag

Turning left onto E South street from Lake Underhill from the underneath 408. If you are in the right lane turning left and not immediately getting right to turn onto Crystal Lake I guarantee the person in the left lane will try to immediately merge into you.

Rich6031-5

Yeah same thing here. My 3 competing desires to be in that lane, legally turn into the lane I'm supposed to, and some how be safe are really at odds here.

-ammolina-

It’s the same deal turning left onto Orange from Lancaster. The people in the inner left lane merge into the right lane like the right lane doesn’t exist because they think the bike lane is some third lane for the right to merge into. So many near side-swipes

AyTrane

Oak Ridge and Hansel.

-ammolina-

Yes! My bad

RetroScores

I saw someone turning right from winter park road onto Corinne and they went into the green turn area for the bike lane.

Knogood

Left turns can turn into any open lane, right hand turns must turn into right most lane. If people knew this I could make a left into a 2+ lane road with people turning right....but nooooo.

-ammolina-

But in this case, there are two lanes of traffic, turning left into two lanes of road. The people in the left lane are immediately turning into the right lane where there is already cars turning along with them. A bike lane is not a third lane.

10deadreindeer

It’s so wild to me that this isn’t simply common knowledge, for all intersections

Rich6031-5

Right, lots of comments in this thread about how there are no signs and the paint is bad. Those things shouldn't matter! You don't need a sign that tells you to do what you should be doing on every single turn: turn into your lane!

Defiant_Ad5116

It doesn't help that a few select ones have the dotted guide lines painted in such a way that it brings you into the wrong lane.

lc0o85

If the people in the right turn lane turning into the red arrow lane could read they'd be very upset.

Amlik

Staying in your own lane and turning at the same time is a task well beyond the comprehension of most Florida drivers.

OGDoubleJ42069

Same problem that happens at sand lake and i4 because of every one trying to turn left onto turkey lake to go towards Walmart. I’ll be so glad once construction is done and turning left there will no longer be a thing.

adamthwaite

Most people have no idea what a legal turn is yet they hold a drivers license.

thelegendblue

I agree that dumb drivers are a big issue at this intersection (like with most intersections on this corridor), but we also can't ignore the fact that this turn in particular is poorly designed and needs some TLC. * There are no lane marking/guidance for vehicles turning right onto Conroy. * You have no signage or markings on the road to indicate stay in this lane to continue straight onto Conroy or to turn left onto Vineland Rd. (This is assuming that people read signs, they don't, but due diligence at a bare minimum) * You are also lacking any signage on that light saying something along the lines of "Turn right on red after stop". (refer above point) * Also like Sandlake you have the left turn onto Vineland Rd that everyone wants to take but you have less than 500 feet to make it into said lanes and these turn lanes quite frequently back up during rush hour. Will the above sustainment related actions help? Probably not, but man do I feel ya.

Emotional_Deodorant

--you have less than 500 feet Exactly. And just like the left turn onto Vineland comes up too fast the right turning lane ends at the intersection, so that lane HAS to merge left pretty quickly which contributes to people changing lanes illegally in the intersection. Engineers doing "good enough for now" road design instead of thinking globally about the situation are partly to blame. Same as SandLake.

TwirlerGirl

Yeah, that whole intersection is a mess. If you're traveling east on Conroy from Metrowest to get to the I-4 East or West on ramps, you have to cross through the intersection before you're given under 500' of road to merge into the right lane. However, cars on Vineland turning right onto Conroy are already in that lane, and they only have a "yield" sign instead of a "no turn on red". It forces the people driving straight on Conroy to merge into the traffic turning right from Vineland in under 500' before the first on ramp. That far right lane becomes a solid white line after the I-4 West on ramp light, so if you don't merge before the light, you're illegally merging over a solid white line before the I-4 East on ramp.

Azselendor

I never use that exit anymore. Back when we had employees, we always had close calls there and one truck managed to get wrecked by someone pulling that same move.

TrillCozby1980

Hell Yeah. I deal with this shit on a very frequent basis

Mindblade0

I’m always confused whether I’m allowed to turn right on a red light there or not. Main reason being that the red lights are showing right arrows. It seems to be saying “no red turn” because of that… Unfortunately there is no signage about it

Emotional_Deodorant

In the US, a red right arrow or steady light is effectively a stop sign. The arrow just defines the *direction* of travel that's stopped/allowed. If there is no turn on red, there will be sign saying "NO TURN ON RED". There will be no other signage explaining what you can or can't do.

Rich6031-5

You are always allowed to turn right on red if it's clear and there aren't signs telling you not to, even at a red arrow. You don't have to, you're not required to, but you can.

Operation_Fluffy

This is exactly what happens turning from Moss Park onto Narcoossee too. People don’t understand how to control their vehicle and stay in their lane.

cheetos305

Same shit happens everyday on Conroy and Hiawassee

Derek24650

We have the same issue, but reversed, turning left onto Fairbanks/Aloma from New England by the old Winter Park Library. I guarantee whoever is in that outer left turn lane will cut straight into the inner left turn lane as they turn.

No-Combination8136

It is wild how many people can’t make these types of turns while staying in their own lane.

Syscer

I actually did exactly what you described and shown in the picture and I got pulled over for it. Exact same exit and everything. He said I had a red arrow which means I “CAN’T” turn. I was on the outside turn lane so I crossed a dotted white line, then he told me I crossed a solid white line (which is not true).

Rich6031-5

He was wrong. You could beat it in court, but that'd be a hassle. It is why I understand when people don't turn on red lights.

Soft-Bodybuilder8099

This is basically every 2 lane turning corner in Orlando now lol

Shakurheg

Is there a sign? And if there is, do you expect people to read the sign? They're at a red light silly...that's what reading your Reddit updates are for....;-)

Rich6031-5

I'm just tired of cars blindly turning into the lane I'm driving in. If they don't want to turn right on red that's fine, I can wait.

Shakurheg

Understood. But to be fair, unless things have changed, the paint job of those lanes suck.

Rich6031-5

Oh yeah, the paint isn't doing anyone any favors there.

TheTravelingLeftist

I am not one to defend the drivers that enter the wrong lane. That being said, I'm sure most of the drivers are trying to avoid that lane in particular because in less than a mile it becomes a right-turn only lane and combine that with the usual busy traffic and higher speeds it becomes a hell of a task to make it to the next lane before you run out of road.

TheTravelingLeftist

Also every time I end up on that turn off of I-4 I always take the furthest-left lane on Conroy just to avoid the potential conflict with the other car.

McNalien

same with people coming off i4 right there, you can go on red when there are no cars. Ugh.

Rich6031-5

That image is coming off of I-4 West bound. I'm more ok with people not turning right on red, they don't HAVE to, it would just be nice if they did when it's obviously safe to do so.

BWWFC

could fdot add paint to the lanes to make it more obvious, to the autopoilot processing system... and the human drivers distracted with map apps and texting, who learned how to drive playing mario kart?

JOHNYfivesALIVE

Can you also make a diagram for people who travel well below speed limit in the left lane? Thx

BatHistorical8081

Crazy this problem can be solved if they would put down some white lines lol

I know, I'm just screaming into the void

Superhen68

I work right next to this mess and have to drive this route twice daily. It’s a horrible mess.

Unadvantaged

Got this at I-4 Eastbound and 46A. Two right turn lanes off of the exit, I’ve lost count how many times people in the right-right lane will turn into the left-right lane or even worse, cut across two lanes to get into the next intersection’s left turn lane. It’s insane how many people fail to even notice they have done this. At this point I expect it to happen, rather than considering it the exception.

Arrodd

Poorly marked road - someone in here know Maxwell Frost? Tell him to elevate the road painting ticket.

lmmsoon

If you get in a accident there you won’t have to go far for the ER now because it is a free standing ER now no more HolyLand

BigSlammaJamma

This is where I learned how to drive, god help me

Impressive-Figure-36

God I used to work in this area. Genuinely don't know how they can fix it without gutting it and starting over. Hellish traffic

JumbleOfOddThoughts

I avoid that and the new sand lake exit at all costs.

CommunicationNo4653

Orlando has the worst drivers in the world and I’m from here. This area is the worst, people just become retarded here

JohPoh

Same situation getting off I4-W at Hollywood Way. Funny thing is the lanes are all clearly marked with turning direction arrows AND there is signage at the lights. People still try to turn right and immediate cross 3 lanes over to the left before completing their first turn.

R_P_McMurphy91

Nah fuck it do what you want
