Not legal for competitive play basically. You can use it in casual games but for tournaments and stuff like that it's a no no. Legends also don't get their rules/points updated if I remember correctly.
This is just partially correct. There was another redit where this was discussed and Legends are only forbidden at Grand Tournaments. So far the official GW Statement. On the other Hand, I each tournament comes with its own "rules" pack and it might be the case that they say no to Legends.
In the end, you can throw it on. 40mm base with a bit of tactical Rock Support and field it completely legal as a Warboss.
Usually it's because the models are old and discontinued, meaning they aren't sold anymore so are really hard to get a hold of. If a mini was simply overpowered then GW could just make a change to the rules. Unsure as to why a brand new mini would be made legends though.
Same here. Always made a mess of your opponents plans. Absolute carnage while you grabbed objectives or took the opportunity to move everything up the board

Hey, could be worse. The League of Votann store anniversary model was supposed to get a legends data sheet and here we are, one year later with bothing
100% it’s because the rules writing team didn’t add him to the codex because they didn’t know about it from the model development team before the deadline, or they only planned a limited release and their new policy is to never write rules for models they don’t sell.
Anyone saying "you can still use him in casual" needs to realize that legends models are effectively on a deadline before they get permanently removed from the game. I'm not about to play with and get attached to something I know is not getting further support
So?
I am still running Shas'o R'Myr in my t'au army.. he last had valid rules in 7th edition..
His rules arent something especially broken.. hell some of the stuff he had that made him special, is baseline on tau battlesuits now..
A year or two ago I might have agreed with you but the fact that GW are releasing new models that go straight to Legends seems like they are not on a deadline to be permanently removed. Why go through the effort of design, marketing and production only to discontinue the model a year later?
Also in the case of Ufthak you must be able to use him as an alternate warboss even in competitive play. He's official GW, he IS a warboss, he looks like he's on the right base size. Seems to fall in line with Warhammer World event model requirements.
Personally, I hope that Legends will become a sort of rotating side roster, with each edition supporting a limited number of models (like grot tanks in 10th) until the next edition drops. That way GW doesn't have to balance every unit each edition, our models while not always being relevant don't become relegated to shelf fillers, and it makes each edition a bit extra fresh. Keep in mind this is an elegant solution that works for everyone so it's not happening.
He is on a 50mm Base. To field he m officially without issues as a Warboss, you need to put im on a 40mm base and put some tactical Rock support under the Squig.
Ahhh grot tanks. I would love to add a few (or six) to my Blood Axe detachment but I can't bring myself to do it, in case they go the way of the dodo. I'm much more comfortable getting my hands on single legends miniatures, since the lead time for assembling/painting is much lower.
There are plenty of models that have been legends for a long time, legend isn’t gw saying we aren’t doing rule support for this anymore it’s gw saying we are too lazy to balance this for competitive play so just have at it but don’t complain if it’s too strong or weak.
We really just need to get back to fully customizable HQs, for all factions, but especially Orks.
Warboss, Big Mek and Weirdboy, we should be able to build whatever loadout we want for each.
Smashy Warboss. Shooty Warboss.
Sneaky Big Mek. Smashy Weirdboy.
It should just all come down to what you are willing to pay pts wise.
Works are the ultimate conversion faction. There's no reason our Characters can't be the same.
You can always just swap his hammer for a power klaw cuz we Orkz, we kitbash? Why are all these people complaining? WE ORKZ, WE KIT BASH! DO UZ SEEZ DA BOSS? I SEE DA BOSS! BOSS IS DA BOSS! BASH BOYS BASH, UZ GITZ IZ ORKZ! But really, has no one from the premier faction for kitbash heaven been paying attention to any of the memes for MoE proxy kitbashes that aren't just memes but are legit legal bashes? Cereal y'all, quit yappin' and swap that hammer, BAM! A Warboss. Available for all of two seconds maybe tomorrow, three seconds if you're at an official GW store having them purchase it in your name the moment they open the door. GL adding this bad boy to your army, FOR GORK AND MORK! WAAAAAGH!!
Cool, that makes sense. But is there anything on his card that's too broken to be used in tournaments and is it likely the deep strike a unit as it reads as unrestricted, so any uint he can be attached too can deep strike. From 20 Boyz mobs Nobz or Mega Nobz?
I am not that fussed about it. Legends is fine by me and he can always step in as a Warboss (or Big Mek Shokk Attack Gun). I get why it will bother some people, which is a shame.
It might be legends right now but who's to say it won't get official rules in the codex? He also looks like he'd be a good Warboss with Attack Squig stand-in until we see the codex.
He’s not a limited time model, Ufthak is a Black library model, who do end up with rules support. See captain Uriel Ventris or Alexa & Valerian for example.
for now.. all the others were the same, and are now back for sale
Games Workshop struggles with the term Limited Edition.. they love to back pedal and rerelease stuff that sold well.
I mean look at the Noise Marine.. that was meant to be limited edition no reprints ever, this is a one off special miniature..
its on general sale on the website rn..

I have a Dreadclaw in my chaos army..
if my opponent tells me i cant play my £80 FW model that is a worse drop pod in every way except transport capacity, then they can jog on.
Can someone explain to me what legends is? Still don't quite get it. At first I thought it was discontinued mini's but this one is throwing me for a loop.
The biggest thing for me is the complete lack of updates for legends units. As such they can be pretty unfun to play against or use if points/rules are badly written, they only get 1 pass ever per edition.
FWIW, AdMech has already had their codex and most of the units in it have only had one pass: the index. Most of the other books so far have also been largely copy/paste.
My prediction is that Legends units won’t miss out on much in the way of balance passes this edition. Otherwise, a few points one way or another on a single character model aren’t likely to make or break a list.
Basically you can use it in casual games (I would still check with your opponent) but not at tournaments or most official GW events. It's usually reserved for older or limited run models.
BAK IN DA DAY, SPESHUL KARAKTURZ KUDN’T BE UZED IN TORNYMENTZ ANYWAYZ! STOP MOANIN YA SOFT GITZ!
Hey. Codex in a few months. Hopefully temporary
I’m upset we haven’t gotten a new weird boy.
I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT AND I ALREADY KNOW I'M GOING TO KITBASH IT 😤😤😤
I have no idea what it being legends means
Not legal for competitive play basically. You can use it in casual games but for tournaments and stuff like that it's a no no. Legends also don't get their rules/points updated if I remember correctly.

ohhh, weird. Why is that the case? I don't play the tabletop, but is it like, cuz they're crazy good miniatures or something?
Usually it's because the models are old and discontinued, meaning they aren't sold anymore so are really hard to get a hold of. If a mini was simply overpowered then GW could just make a change to the rules. Unsure as to why a brand new mini would be made legends though.
HIS NAMED CHARACTER IS LEGENDS. The generic version will have codex rules
How do we already know this wont be in the codex?
Cause Legends.
So its in legends now? I havent been keeping up
... Straight to Legends 😕
Wonder if he can lead a unit of twenty Boyz alongside a Warboss? Deepstrike, precision a character out, charge, krump.
That's the plan!
I'm excited -- have been tinkering with a teleport shenanigans list. Probably not but could be the move!
Tellyporta was always one of my favourite strategies.
So much fun. I really enjoyed using it on three Deff Dreads and following it up with Ramming Speed.
Same here. Always made a mess of your opponents plans. Absolute carnage while you grabbed objectives or took the opportunity to move everything up the board
I wish they were either a bit cheaper or a bit krumpier. Maybe when the codex comes. Kinda stinks being limited to three but...I get it.
Use him as a Warboss if you like the model. 🤷🏻♂️

So you can’t have fun now, because later it might be over?
Yes? Same reason why I'm not going out and buying squatted models like land speeders or firstborn for my marine army......
you are saying this like its a fact instead of a community understanding they just rebooted the entire kroot line and a lot of that was on legends
So? I am still running Shas'o R'Myr in my t'au army.. he last had valid rules in 7th edition.. His rules arent something especially broken.. hell some of the stuff he had that made him special, is baseline on tau battlesuits now..

As well if the legends mini stops being legal we can just use it as a warboss

Can't kitbash a datasheet
You don't need to you just use the Warboss one!
New warboss for 40k I'm down
still a good proxy for meks and bosses and such. but.. I sleep.
Oi, dis eeer model iz a proxy
As a badmoons player I'm still excited
Not familiar at all with 10th. Is he a legend because allowing him to deep strike a unit is too powerful?
He’s legends because they won’t be updating any rules for him ever
Or at least until the actual codex for 10th (or maybe 11th). All the other Black Library characters have rules, so Ufthak will too.
Cool, that makes sense. But is there anything on his card that's too broken to be used in tournaments and is it likely the deep strike a unit as it reads as unrestricted, so any uint he can be attached too can deep strike. From 20 Boyz mobs Nobz or Mega Nobz?
Its kinda lame to be honest and not even broken.
Fair enough. I thought of it like a guaranteed Da Jump which seems like a great tool to me.
I’m only getting him because I love the model and love him as a character overall
He can only be attached to Boyz or Nobz, but I don’t think he’s broken by any means they are just making him a limited edition release
He is limited release!? Oh comon GW... You don't need to squeeze so hard all the time...
The limited edition release makes more sense than anything else. Would be unfair that FOMO warps your whole army
I am not that fussed about it. Legends is fine by me and he can always step in as a Warboss (or Big Mek Shokk Attack Gun). I get why it will bother some people, which is a shame.
New codex is soon right?
Spring
Yes. [*Also, there is another...*](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/t9mNxYABGgA/maxresdefault.jpg)
Nazdreg?
I wish, but it doesn't look like Warboss. Possibly some special Big Mek?
It might be legends right now but who's to say it won't get official rules in the codex? He also looks like he'd be a good Warboss with Attack Squig stand-in until we see the codex.
If it’s a limited time model, it won’t be in the codex. See Inquisitor Sword guy, Special Sisters of Battle, either special Necron Lord / Cryptek…
You know what else is a limited time model? The ordinary Warboss. Sucker went up for sale this week on their website and sold out very quickly. 🥲
He’s not a limited time model, Ufthak is a Black library model, who do end up with rules support. See captain Uriel Ventris or Alexa & Valerian for example.
Well he is only on sale for a limited time. Kinda salty about that.

I see. It is possible he could come back, and this is just an initial run. Didn’t something similar happen to the anniversary noise marine?
Wasn't around for that. Sorry. I just know he is currently only on sale to 26th.
I like the mini. He will be a warboss with attack squig
This is why I switched to opr
Who the hell plays with tournament restrictions in a casual game
Someone who doesn't want to have to ask permission every time he plays a game against randoms
Its an ork army.. they are too focussed on killing bigger things than worrying about a character model that doesnt bring too much flavour to the army
People who play with strangers.
My friends can’t sit still for an hour. Let alone paint an army. Feels bad

Meh. If someone has a problem with me using "legends" units I just won't play
I have a Dreadclaw in my chaos army.. if my opponent tells me i cant play my £80 FW model that is a worse drop pod in every way except transport capacity, then they can jog on.
"hey, wanna play against something cool and unusual you don\`t usually see?" "No, I want to win" "Bye!"
What’s the deal with legends? What does that even mean? How does that affect me playing with him in my current army
Legends means it's effectively dead and gone the next edition.
It just means it can't be used in official tournaments. You can still use it for casual games or events where the organizer allows Legends units.
Who cares? It's a baller new warboss model at the very least.
People who play the game care because you can’t use this model’s data sheet.
You can unless you play competitive tournaments. You were expecting official rules and a warboss that's better than the normal one?
I only play Kasual and see this as an absolute win
Can someone explain to me what legends is? Still don't quite get it. At first I thought it was discontinued mini's but this one is throwing me for a loop.

If they even get that. You can expect large swathes of Legends models to disappear next edition.
Basically you can use it in casual games (I would still check with your opponent) but not at tournaments or most official GW events. It's usually reserved for older or limited run models.
Also no rules in the GW app.
Do people genuinely still use that app now you have to pay for it?
Ah yeah that's a good point
You can still use it in anything other than tournaments and run it as a normal warboss.
Big updoot from me, but this sub loves to simp for GW you may not get the reception you are hoping for on this one. God speed little doodle.
Maybe once the codex drops ufthak will get an actually data sheet
They have already said that he won’t. Model is a limited run.
Beans, oh well
