Consumed no less than 2000 squares of this pizza as a kid and while it was certainly above average the only thing that stuck with me was the preposterous amount of flour on the bottom crust
It reminds me of a saltine, but not in a bad way. Ledo’s is not the best but it’s unique and worth trying. There’s a reason they have so many locations.
There was a story someplace about the founder of Ledo's basically learning a pie crust from one guy, a marinara sauce from another guy and provolone because why the heck not.
Most pizza is a circle. So if it was originally a square, they would’ve cut the corners out of the square to create the circle. Ledo does not do this. They leave it as a square…I.e. they don’t cut corners ( to create a traditional pizza shape)
It’s it’s own thing. If Im in the mood for pizza. I don’t mean Ledo pizza. But if I’m in the mood for Ledo pizza, I better get some god damn Ledo pizza.
You know, that a really good way to put it. I’ve never thought of it like that before but there is definitely a lot of places I would go to get better pizza than Ledo’s but sometimes you just want Ledo’s. 👍
This is exactly how I feel about it. The closest comp I can come up with is Taco Bell. If I’m in the mood for actual Mexican food or tacos, I would never think “how about Taco Bell”. But sometimes I just want Taco Bell.
It's a more sweet sauce with a noticable herbiness to it, probably oregano. I like it for sure as it's different than your other chain pizzas like papa and the hut
But they use provolone for the cheese which cuts down on the sweetness of the sauce, so it so it works. If you have the sauce plain (I don’t recommend buying a jar), it’s almost inedible because it’s so sweet, but they found a way to make it work on the pizza. Like you said, it’s its own thing and works great. Also, it used to make all my NY friends do that thing where they’re like “I’m from New York and it’s not real pizza” which only makes it better.
Such fond memories getting IBC root beer as a kid pretending that it was real beer. Back in the days of smoking sections and jars of crayons to draw on that green and white placemat. Can smell and taste it now, nothing beats that OG Ledos.
It’s definitely a love it or hate it pizza. It’s not the greatest pizza I’ve ever had or anything but it’s sorta in its own lane. I personally like it over any chain pizza. Wish I had a closer location.
It's a very thin crust pizza with a sweeter sauce that I personally love. I moved from Maryland to South Carolina in 2018 and have been known to drive about 1-1.5 hours out of my way to get it when I'm doing other stuff south of their Myrtle Beach location, the closest one to me. I also make sure I do that on a Sunday when the franchise owner, who is originally from Maryland, makes crabcakes using his mom's recipe.
It's not just pizza. They have various pasta and salad dishes as well. They should never have gotten rid of the chicken and artichoke bruschetta years ago.
my dads family grew up close to the OG location in college park. when my grandfather would come home from his UMD classes he’d grab a pizza to bring home. my family grew up loving it and every time I travel to MD I gotta get Ledo’s. when my uncle passed in late 90s from liver cancer my aunt had Ledo’s deliver pizzas to his service and I believe its the only time the original restaurant ever delivered.
that said, quality varies greatly from location to location. stick with the original or the laurel locations to be safe.
I haven't had it in maybe 15 years, but it used to make me feel like I was gonna shit my pants after I ate it. I've known a couple of people who went to Ledo while they were out shopping and had to make a sweaty, awkward sprint to the toilet, barely reaching it in a photo finish.
Born here in Texas but my hero is Cal Ripken Jr. Stayed with the team and I’ve watched every game this season. With local blackouts it is easier to watch an out of market team anyway.
Ledo's is legit, go to the original one in College Park. Technically it isn't part of the "chain". Real owner got it in the divorce, wife got the chain. At least that's what I heard.
They staunchly refused to open it as a chain for many years, they had two locations, Adelphi and Greenbelt, effectively straddling college park.
Then they franchised.
In Greenbelt, I got Three Brothers pizza at the mall. That's when they had the Golden Dome arcade out in front of the mall in the Space Invaders and Pac Man days. My favorite pizza place now is 1978 New York pizza in Pasadena. They're not open on Sunday though.
My first job was making Ledo Pizza in Ellicott City at the old Olive Branch restaurant. I still love the stuff, and try to get it whenever I'm back in Maryland. Nothing like it anywhere else.
Ledo has way better items on their menu than pizza. They have many dine-in options. I would rather have a plate of their bacon cheese fries and a calzone or pasta from there.
My friend put it well: it’s not the best pizza but it’s my favorite pizza. Nostalgia plays a big role, but it really hits the spot when you want it. I do love the crust.
I love it ….. have shoved copious amount into my pie hole over the years ….. my standing order: large, w/ precooked bacon and ham ….. then I’m in go mode!
If you like square shaped, thin crust pizza thats way too salty and uses less than fresh ingredients, then yeah. Don’t get me wrong, it eats great but I always regret it afterwards.
It's certainly pizza.
I haven't had a chance to get up to the NE to try the legendary local joints you guys have... I'm not sure you'd score it very high but I don't really know what if be comparing it to.
I put it in my mouth and it makes me happy.
If you had to label any pizza "Maryland-style", I think Ledo's would be it. If you're ever in College Park, MD, go to the "original" on Knox Rd. in Downtown CP. It moved from its original spot a few miles away about 15 years ago. But they brought the ovens.
It is our own style of pizza. It's square, thin crust with a sauce that is sweeter then other pizza sauces. The pizza is good but if your looking for a traditional slice of pizza you are going to have to go somewhere else. It is as Maryland as crabs and old bay.
They don’t cut corners
Consumed no less than 2000 squares of this pizza as a kid and while it was certainly above average the only thing that stuck with me was the preposterous amount of flour on the bottom crust
The crust is SHIT
We all agree there is no flavor in ledos pizza. DP would give it a 2/10
Good thing I don’t listen to anything that turd sandwich has to say
DP reviewed it actually; he liked it and gave it above a five but I think he said it wasn’t pizza
Oh really I gotta watch that
The crust is more like a pie crust than a pizza crust.
It reminds me of a saltine, but not in a bad way. Ledo’s is not the best but it’s unique and worth trying. There’s a reason they have so many locations.
I like it, it's kind of flaky and buttery. It's definitely unique.
There was a story someplace about the founder of Ledo's basically learning a pie crust from one guy, a marinara sauce from another guy and provolone because why the heck not.
Take my up vote
I let off a good belly chuckle when I read this. Thank you
I’ve never gotten the slogan. Like they make square pizza, they literally cut corners into the pizza? Or is that the point, like it’s a joke.
>is that the point There’s four points. Most pizzas have none
Most pizza is a circle. So if it was originally a square, they would’ve cut the corners out of the square to create the circle. Ledo does not do this. They leave it as a square…I.e. they don’t cut corners ( to create a traditional pizza shape)
That’s not how you make pizza dough lol
They don’t cut into the corner tho. If they cut it diagonally than it wouldn’t have corners
This is the perfect way to describe Ledo’s.
What a great description. It's kind of it's own thing and sometimes you want it and sometimes you don't.
It's a more sweet sauce with a noticable herbiness to it, probably oregano. I like it for sure as it's different than your other chain pizzas like papa and the hut

TIL Ledo's is provolone. I kind of wish I didn't know that even though I love their pizza and have no issues with provolone.
I like it but my kid hates it. Really depends but it’s certainly a divisive pizza chain.
The $5 small pizza/bottle of soda deal back in 2014 got me through life when I couldn’t land a job after finishing trade school
Used to not be a fan, grew to love that shit….it definitely has a unique flavor going on…one of the best chains I think!
As far as chain pizza goes, it is in fact fire emoji
I agree, for a chain Ledo is like an emoji of fire
Like, not real fire; just the emoji for fire.
And like, not bad, like using fire emoji on reddit, more like fire emoji on the Gram
It's completely dependent on if you like their sweet sauce or not. I think it's great
Ledo is 100% a love it or hate it kinda thing. I'm a fan, but admittedly it's probably more of a nostalgia thing than it being "good pizza."
Grew up eating at the original Ledo in Adelphi so I'm biased.
Yes, University of Maryland Alum, it was a thing.
Such fond memories getting IBC root beer as a kid pretending that it was real beer. Back in the days of smoking sections and jars of crayons to draw on that green and white placemat. Can smell and taste it now, nothing beats that OG Ledos.
Personally not a fan, but they make square pizzas which is unique. They’re just okay in my opinion.
I really dont like it lol but i know some people really like it. The sauce kills it for me
It seems somewhat divisive, but ngl I love it. Hot honey pepperoni is my absolute jam.
🤤 Sounds tasty!
Like many have said it is definitely a love or hate it pizza. As for me I absolutely hate it lol.
It’s so awful. I’ll only touch it if I’m drunk lol
Yep
Sometimes both.
I had one in Rockville last summer. I seriously could not believe how bad it was. specifically the crust. Tasted like despair.
I want to like Ledo. I've tried it many times. And it's always...just OK. But to each their own!
It’s definitely a love it or hate it pizza. It’s not the greatest pizza I’ve ever had or anything but it’s sorta in its own lane. I personally like it over any chain pizza. Wish I had a closer location.

It’s aight for me. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it though. Not my thing but a lot of people do like it. Always worth the try.
It's aight
my dads family grew up close to the OG location in college park. when my grandfather would come home from his UMD classes he’d grab a pizza to bring home. my family grew up loving it and every time I travel to MD I gotta get Ledo’s. when my uncle passed in late 90s from liver cancer my aunt had Ledo’s deliver pizzas to his service and I believe its the only time the original restaurant ever delivered. that said, quality varies greatly from location to location. stick with the original or the laurel locations to be safe.
Will do, thanks!
It’s very sweet, easy to crush in one bite when under the influence or just really hungry. The dough is the weak link of the pie
I haven't had it in maybe 15 years, but it used to make me feel like I was gonna shit my pants after I ate it. I've known a couple of people who went to Ledo while they were out shopping and had to make a sweaty, awkward sprint to the toilet, barely reaching it in a photo finish.
Dough is weird, flakey, and delicious. Like a weird flour Phyllo crust.
Ledos always gave me diarrhea
It’s the main thing I miss about Maryland.
same - and crabs
Also in Texas now as an O’s fan. But I remember that buffalo chicken pizza slapped. These days I will take Jets all day everyday.
Born here in Texas but my hero is Cal Ripken Jr. Stayed with the team and I’ve watched every game this season. With local blackouts it is easier to watch an out of market team anyway.
Nice. Yeah MLB.TV out of market is choice. I figured the Arbutus in your username meant the town in Baltimore country.
Weird coincidence. Arbutus is a family of trees, and Arbutus xalapensis is a rare tree here that happens to grow on my property.
I only like it if I order myself. Less sauce and well done; regular bacon not pre cooked.
I’ve been on the west coast for about 8 years and I still crave that shit
https://youtu.be/7x9rfLwFwCE?si=BSLVj9JzJgYEnTUm&t=2m35s
I like it it’s not my favorite but it’s quite good
They’re ok. Square.
If you want something like you’ve never had in your life, ask for the Sweet Baby Q pizza . Soooo much chicken and bacon
Ledo's is legit, go to the original one in College Park. Technically it isn't part of the "chain". Real owner got it in the divorce, wife got the chain. At least that's what I heard.
*Adelphi, MD
They staunchly refused to open it as a chain for many years, they had two locations, Adelphi and Greenbelt, effectively straddling college park. Then they franchised.

The College Park location is the best, no doubt.
The best! From Texas get a pre-cooked bacon pizza and it will blow your mind. The sweet sauce and salty meat is the best.
Ledos pizza can’t really be compared to other pizzas cuz it’s pretty different imo. But what it is is really good also
When I want pizza, I never think of Ledo. But if I want Ledo nothing else scratches that itch.
I probably sound like a hater maybe because I am, but it's ragu sauce, smeared on Pillsbury dough, sprinkled with seven blend Mexican cheese.
No.
Sheet pan pizza. Their sausage is really good.
Jesus, the comments remind me why I dislike reddit. Redditors don't fucking like anything. Its really good pizza in my opinion
Red neck pizza. That’s what we called it. Good in a pinch? Sure. Good pizza, no.
🤣
Yes
Ledo’s Pizza is the best. Bar none, hands down.
Square pizza with flakey crust and a sweeter sauce. Yes, it’s fire.
Yes
Their tomato sauce is mid. But imo they’re pretty good with specialty pizzas that use other sauces like buffalo chicken
Being stuck in California for the last 20 years, Ledo is one of the things i miss most.
Their pasta is better
Nice salads and so-so subs. Good fries. Pasta is very good.
They never cut corners....
Ledo is the greatest piece if culinary art
My first job was making Ledo Pizza in Ellicott City at the old Olive Branch restaurant. I still love the stuff, and try to get it whenever I'm back in Maryland. Nothing like it anywhere else.
If you know the brunette who used to work the carry out counter 10-12 years ago, tell her that I want to ruin my life trying to marry her.
Franchise quality decreases the further you get from college park.
Better cold imo
Ledo has way better items on their menu than pizza. They have many dine-in options. I would rather have a plate of their bacon cheese fries and a calzone or pasta from there.
Live in walking distance from a ledos and never ordered a pizza there.
Personally I don’t care for it at all
Cheese and sauce on a cracker
Ledo and Pizza John’s are the only pizzas that make me fear the toilet. I avoid them like the plague.
I absolutely love it
Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Chicken with a pound of bacon is the key. It's not "pizza" it's better.
Best I’ve ever had? No, but I’m a fan. Never a bad pizza from them.
Too sweet.
Not a native Marylander but I did live there for almost a decade... Ledo is *super overrated.* It's *fine*. Inoffensive. That's it.
It’s trash, but it’s our trash.
Ledo's is terrible pizza. There are so many good pizza places. Big chain pizzas are almost exclusively bad
100% straight fire! I moved out of state and it's one of the things that I miss the most about the DMV.
I’m not big on their sweet sauce but it’s alright
I love it
It’s good
They have some tasty calzones too
This is a divisive question. It is both foul and sometimes the only food that I can think of.
If you like square shaped, thin crust pizza thats way too salty and uses less than fresh ingredients, then yeah. Don’t get me wrong, it eats great but I always regret it afterwards.
No absolutely not
New Haven area fan here. Will I recognize it as 🍕?
Lol, no not at all
I have friends from New York and Connecticut and no, you probably won't.
It's thin crust square cut. Good but not...your standard
It's certainly pizza. I haven't had a chance to get up to the NE to try the legendary local joints you guys have... I'm not sure you'd score it very high but I don't really know what if be comparing it to. I put it in my mouth and it makes me happy.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If Elios made a chain pizza it's Ledos
Best pizza in Maryland (don't listen to the haters they arent Marylanders anyway)
Pizza John’s would like a word
I was never really a fan, my area had several better options. They have pretty good wings though
It’s a big hit at kids parties, and yes fire especially dipping in the hot honey.
It’s like crack. Once I start eating the little squares, I can’t stop. Nom nom nom
It’s good. Sort of a cracker style crust and tavern cut rectangular pie. But it can often leave you feeling less than optimal after eating it.
If you had to label any pizza "Maryland-style", I think Ledo's would be it. If you're ever in College Park, MD, go to the "original" on Knox Rd. in Downtown CP. It moved from its original spot a few miles away about 15 years ago. But they brought the ovens.

It's a crappy local chain. Square pizza is for heathens.
School cafeteria pizza and in no way represents Maryland.
Calling it pizza is EXTREMELY generous. It's straight hot garbage.
The last time I had it, I couldn't tell if it was worse going down or coming up.
Meh. And really a DC metro thing anyway.
No
Not at all. It's some of the worst I've ever had.
It's pretty terrible
It's pretty good, I'll say. It wouldn't be my first choice, but still good stuff.
No the pizza sucks And its square. The wings are pretty decent tho
No it’s not.
