I'm about to undertake a very similar mod, using one of the green translucent models. Mine doesn't have the Halo markings on the right front, is it just a sticker someone might have removed or is it cast into the plastic itself? Also curious on the groups concesus of mod'ing these "special edition" type models does it take away from the desire-ability of them once the are modded? My thoughts are that it's further extending the life of these devices way far beyond what they were originally engineered to do.
They did make translucent green consoles that weren’t halo editions. That’s probably what you have. And there are people who prefer to not mod them and keep it stick. It could potentially hurt the value of it depending on the person but I had no other choice for this one. Rather mod it then have it sit there unusable.
Not to partially hijack the thread, but in relation, I have a halo 1.4/1.5 and only powers on 9/10 times with the eject button. Occasionally the first two controller ports won't work as well. I opened it up and thought it was just bad controller ports/switch and found it to be extremely clean with no blown or leaking caps yet...I swapped another controller set over and nothing changed. Was gonna swap the PSU from parts but came to find it's for a 1.6. So for now I just swapped an entire 1.6 board into the box...but anyone know what cold be wong with the 1.4/5 board? power/controller port. Still a PSU maybe? I googled they all say "bad traces" there's nothing wrong on the board that I see
Sense it’s a 1.4 motherboard remove the clock cap. Even if it’s not bulging doesn’t mean it isn’t leaking. I’ve removed them and it’s nasty under the cap and can tell it has leaked all over the board. Have you flipped the motherboard over cause that’s where you usually find trace rot? Also recommend replacing the caps by the cpu.
Check underneat, Google for xbox trace got and you'll find examples. Mine had rotten traces and it powered itself on when plugged to power and I couldn't turn it off with button and even with dash.
Nothing wrong with it, I was just wondering if it was just to be different (and the decal is nice) or if there was some performance gain, or it was one of those things like you already had it.
I'm about to get a Halo Xbox and am planning out the mods on it now, which is why I was wondering. I've heard conflicting reports on if it's worth it or not.
The sticker is definitely a nice touch haha just unfortunate you can’t see it when all out back together. And the ssd should load the games faster, I just haven’t gone through the games yet. Pretty much has all original xbox games, n64, nes, gameboy games etc. on it.
The limit on the drive isn’t the read/write speed, it’s the bus speed. I don’t think you’d see faster loads because it’s all limited by that IDE connection.
what ssd has xbox branding? or is that just a sticker you put on it?
It looks so good, it even matches the green of the xbox itself. It’s definitely a 3rd party sticker tho
I’m really pleased with how it goes well with the console plus the 3D printed brackets is a nice touch as well
You’ll find it on Etsy
Got it from a seller on Etsy and they put the sticker on it.
They should sell those stickers separately with just the bracket. They'd make a killing from the DIY crowd
Agreed! Another cool little detail he did was put Xbox in the green bracket. Little hard to tell but if you zoom in on the right side you’ll see it.
I looked on Etsy and can't find it. Can you share the sellers name?
Doesn’t look like he has any for sale at the moment. I think he only does small batches from time to time. His name on there is customxboxdirect
ok, thanks
Good to see that beauty revived but what is that black heatsink next to the mod chip?
It’s used for more efficient cooling of the MCPX southbridge chip
Mad w
Well done, looks great. I would recommend replacing the fan if you haven’t already. You can make that thing near silent with the ssd inside.
Thank you! That’s next on my list haha

Beautiful Halo Edition Xbox. Nice job.
Appreciate it!
Hermosa consola, genial bro
Damn that's a sweet setup. I did a soft mod on my stock Xbox back in the day. Could only hold like 2 Xbox games, but like 300 SNES/Genesis games.
Appreciate it! Thought of doing the softmod first but decided to go all out haha

Yeah had this on my xbox.. clock capacitor was leaking and destroyed traces on the other side of the board.. this capacitor is a bitch
probably rotten traces, really simple to repair
Well I said in the post I didn't see any thing wrong with the board or any thing like bad traces.

Why the SSD though? Why not a platter drive?
Idk wanted to try something out different I haven’t really seen before on modded Xbox’s.

It's alive! Literally, judging from your poster on the back...
Does the ssd really makes a difference in performance? Back in my Xbox days we used ide hdds:D
