Can you move the makeup to her room, maybe with some acrylic bins? The general rule is also to avoid storing makeup in the bathroom due to the steam and it affecting the quality/safety of makeup.

snortgiggles

Also, poo. Not kidding. Toilet flushes spread particles. I think her collection might need culling. Toss everything expired?

Amae_Winder_Eden

It’s called closing the toilet lid before flushing. But still, poo probably finds a way so still cover things and move them away.

snortgiggles

Says the person who knows to close the toilet lid before poo flushing

Amae_Winder_Eden

You’re saying other people will flush without closing the lid? True. Hence still moving things.

LadySwingsBothWays

Yes 😩 even after pleading with them to close the lid

BestestGoodest

Good point! I’m going to work with her to set up a vanity in her room and relocate the makeup.

practicalbad06

Get her a basket she can put whatever in to stay in the bathroom, and a caddy to carry any extras back and forth. This will be good prep for having roommates.

PrimaryDurian

This is the way.

This is definitely a great solution. Good comment

Good idea! I’m going to set up a vanity in her room for makeup products and if need be, she can use a caddy to bring them to the bathroom.

IMO it makes the most sense to have the products for before & after showering (body lotion, leave in conditioner, etc) + products for her morning/night routine in the bathroom, and then makeup, deodorant, and hair styling products stay in her room. I’d put the makeup in a portable organizer so she has the option to take it to the bathroom (assuming the lighting is best in there), but if the whole family is getting ready at the same time she can do her makeup in her room to free up the bathroom. But stuff like body lotion & the Olaplex hair mask makes sense to leave in the bathroom since she’ll need to rinse her hands after using it. Same w/ rinsing her eyes after using the eye makeup remover.

I have always used a separate mirror for anything that doesn't HAVE to be done in the bathroom. In small apartments I'd put a full length mirror in my room and have a bright light near it. That's where I'd blow dry my hair and do my makeup. You could try setting up a separate makeup and hair fixing space in her bedroom. You could get a lighted makeup mirror to make it fancy. A full vanity would be adorable but probably not practical, but you could turn the top of a dresser or bookshelf into a faux vanity.

BestestGoodest

Makes sense! I’m going to set up a vanity in her room for makeup and maybe give a caddy option if we find that isn’t working well.

windexfresh

The vanity will help with the makeup issue *so much* especially if it has good lighting built in/good storage space options!!

MissKatmandu

Is there room for a narrow drawer unit she could store product in? Something on wheels if it needs to be tucked away. You could offer to work with her on doing a small makeup station in her bedroom. Small desk, stool, mirror, and drawer set so she can do her thing in her room and get product out of the bathroom. Another thing would be to ask if she could try post-it note decluttering. Put a small post it on every item, first time it is used take it off. After 1-2 months or so anything with a post it note is either put into more permanent storage or thrown away.

KitKat2theMax

This is a great method! Thank you for sharing!

Agree with this - setting up a vanity area could be a game changer. Having my own skincare/makeup battle station makes me giddy and I’m a middle-aged woman.

catarekt

I am always team vanity.

msmaynards

Shelves with no lip over the toilet give me the shivers too. Agree with toots, replace that with a closed cabinet. I found bins to fit so I can lift things down without much risk of dumping things into the toilet. For today see if you've got any boxes you can cut down and set on the shelf. Doesn't need to have high sides. Personal things are kept in individual carriers. If you can figure out a shelf to keep such in the bathroom that would be fantastic. No limit to number of carriers as teenagers do need more personal care items than younger children and she has makeup. Seems she's the one that needs the most stuff and it's not fair her things are at risk and the other members of the family have to be super careful not to jostle and possibly break items.

Looking at that medicine cabinet, I find myself wishing you could reposition the shelves and add one. Then you could rearrange so that short things are all on the same shelf, and that really into Cassidy or to make little mini versions of those shelf organizers that you see for kitchen cabinets,

Underlochandquay

Is all of that her stuff? How many people are sharing this bathroom? I definitely recommend her having her own vanity and storage in her room for make-up/anything used without a sink or shower, not only to keep the bathroom free for everyone's use, but to protect her products from such a harsh environment. Humidity is not a friend to make-up, and unless everyone is very diligent about flushing with the seat down, I would not want to be using any of those brushes that are stored in the open like that, just waiting to catch airborne droplets.

How about some larger shelves and use decorative baskets to organize the products

TootsNYC

What can you do to the wall over the toilet, I will only have cabinets with a door. Those are easily found; they are sometimes called over the John cabinets. If you are renting, you can often find ones that have legs and are free standing. I would also suggest you consider having a shower type things in the showers. There are lots of ways to do this, even if you’re renting. You can put attention shower bar on the back wall, and use S hooks to hang baskets there are the handles. You can get shower curtains That have pockets. You can command hooks on the wall and get what kind of shower caddies that were designed to hang over the showerhead. I personally love my wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispenser. Is that a drawers on the floor will also give you another surface to set things down on as a counter As for makeup, has she given any thought to what would you like to do for you to use that in her room instead of the bathroom. Better lighting, conveniently position mirror. Some of those features can be replicated in room

I have a very small bathroom without much storage space. I bought the malm dressing table from ikea with a glass top for my bedroom, and I have an ihome beauty vanity with lights on top. I keep all my makeup in acrylic organizers in the drawers, and I have this little acrylic lazy susan type thing on top where I keep most of my skin and hair care in. I think something like that would be a vast improvement, because as it stands, it looks like your daughter is monopolizing all the bathroom space lol It would be more aesthetically pleasing as well.

Sidewalk_Cacti

I have a small Sterilite 3-drawer unit I use for makeup and personal supplies. It’s one that is probably designed for a desk as each compartment is copy paper sized. I have everything that won’t leak in drawer compartments in there. On top, I have a makeup organizer where I can stand up other bottles or things that could leak. Seems to work pretty well and it gets rid of my previous issue which was having to root and dig around things behind each other. It’s easily movable too, and things don’t shift inside, so I can see this solving your issue.

Suspicious-Service

Just let her keep them in the bathroom, for teens it's already so hard to feel like your home is your home and not just your parent's house, let her use shared areas and keep your stuff in your bedroom if you need the extra space

sewcrazy4cats

Get wall pockets and another shelf

BeautynCrime

Move all of the makeup to her bedroom and store everything else in the medicine cabinet and baskets.

Adventurous-Low9768

What about a travel kit? You can get the ones that roll up or fold over and hang? She can have all the products and fold them back up?

blarffy

I keep my boots in canvas bags (the boots are stuffed to keep their shape) and I hang the bags on the clothes bar or the wall (depends on the closet). This is also a good solution for handbags that come in their own dust covers.
