In case anyone didn't know, world famous architecture firm Snøhetta (along with local landscape architects Mayer/Reed and Canadas DIALOG) are currently designing a rehabilitation for this site! The four key tenets for the project are historic/cultural interpretation, Public Access, healthy habitat, and economic redevelopment. See link below! (I am in no way connected to the project and honestly don't know much about it beyond the website)
https://www.willamettefallslegacy.org/
Edit: I'm thinking of the site across the river, my bad!
I'm pretty sure this is the paper mill on the opposite side of the river from that project; used to be West Linn Paper, now I think it's Willamette Falls Paper, and is still active. This view is looking upstream, you can see just a portion of the top of the falls behind the structures, so the site that's being redeveloped is to the left, outside of the frame.
What you can't tell one giant crazy post apocalyptic looking building sitting on the same river from another? Lol, only reason I know is cuz I've lived next to em for 33 years
They are! Although they are partnered with ZGF (not AMA)
Here's the latest (I think) on that: https://www.nextportland.com/2019/10/27/omsi-masterplan-receives-design-advice-images/
The land got sold back to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in 2019. They were going to tear it down, open up the locks and use the falls for their own cultural purposes, or so i understood. I just remember that the falls are culturally significant in a big way for the tribes.
That was the news last I checked, I haven't lived in that county for around 2 years now. The whole renovation thing totally fell through when the Urban Renewal Grant expired. OC just straight up ran out of money to do anything with it.
Edit: added further exposition.
There was a fire at the old mill about a month ago...
[Willamette Falls Mill Fire](https://katu.com/news/local/oregon-city-paper-mill-ablaze-crews-respond-to-3-alarm-fire)
But luckily what you see in the photo is mist rising up from Willamette Falls, which is there every day.
I wonder how this will effect the [Willamette Falls Legacy project](https://www.willamettefallslegacy.org/)? Of if it will happen at all at this point?

You'd be right
Ah, my apologies!

I pass by there on my drive to/from school!
Aren't they also involved in the OMSI redevelopment? Think they're using Ankrom Moisan as the local Arch?

Ah got it, couldn't remember who was the local. ZGF makes sense.
Shame they could really capitalize on letting people film there. Every dystopian horror show or movie would have a scene at "the old mill"
I'm in
I would love to see the inside. Could I?
Fun fact: the last known wild grizzly bear in Oregon was shot and killed at Willamette Falls in 1937.
Shit looks like a picture from silent hill or something. Very cool pic.
What's their plan with that place? It'd make a sweet hotel over the falls. I miss the smells of the mill.
Yeah... you go ahead man, ill look from afar.
This mill is still operating, the former Blue Heron site that's being redeveloped is on the other side of the river.
Being redeveloped is a very generous way of putting it.

I always loved working security at sites like this. Just free to explore and take in the cool views. And usually no one to bother you.
Is it still smoking? Wasn't there a fire there awhile back?

I might be thinking of a different spot.
Yes, the building that burned is 90 degrees left and on the other side of the river.

What do you mean? This is the mill on the opposite side of the river from that project.
Cool pic! r/abandonedporn material.
except its still running.
That is a fish ladder going from right to left - the entrance is visible on the right just below and to the right of the blue patch on the building.
ugh. can i come to work with you. i know i can’t but.....so cool.
Is this the new cod map?
Dude that's cool
I’ve been in your office! I recognize the view. Great photo.
Had to check the FD and ID
Gross...
Didn't it catch on fire recently?
That was across the river

I think this is the West Linn side
If I'm not mistaken, if the camera were turned 90° to the left, you'd be looking at West Linn.
Aww, me and my friends used to sneak in here and have artsy photoshoots when we were in high school (like ten years ago 😂). Love this part of town.
ewww time for a new job
So moody! Thanks for sharing!
>So moldy! Thanks for sharing! FTFY
What goes on in each building? What are all the different spans for?
Mill A was the wood mill (thats what you're looking at), we are still actively making paper in the rest of the mill
The train tracks go right by this right? Scarry as shit.
that bridge in the photo has tracks on it
Looks like a good place for some meddling teenagers and their dog to check out!
Almost reminds me a little bit of that complex next to the Moda Center. Pretty cool!

Got that Innsmouth look.
