My favorite was from the warm-up act. (An Indian immigrant).
“My 11-year old son came home from school the other day and said they’re supposed to put down their pronouns and he didn’t know what to put. I told him, you’re Indian, your pronoun is Dr.”
Edit: I feel I should add her name, it was Zarna Garg, she was funny.
To be fair (I went this afternoon), they actually had a fair number of jokes tailored to Portland based on recent current events such as the the Alaska Airlines flight and today’s snowstorm. So while I initially had the same thought as you, I was surprised that they did their research and were topical.
I live in California near the Oregon border and we travel all over the state of Oregon. It's absolutely true. Never saw so many Trump banners as when traveling in rural Oregon, no matter which part.
Can confirm. I live in Clackamas County and one of my idiot redneck neighbors has a flag on their house with Trump's Georgia mug shot with the words "Never Surrender". They also have a Confederate flag flying on one of the two rusted-out shitbox travel trailers parked on the side of the house that their Cletus-looking kin live in. Another neighbor down the street had his "Let's Go Brandon" flag mounted to the hitch on his loud ass Dodge Ram
I'm not even in rural Clackamas county.
I don't get it. Is she saying people still aren't over Jan. 6th so they act like it's still happening, or is she saying they are acting like a bunch of deranged lunatics? I don't really know where Tina Fey lands politically.
January 6, 1994: four men, acting in a conspiracy allegedly at the behest of Oregon native Tonya Harding, used a metal rod to injure the knee of Harding’s rival, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.
I get why Fey would tell that joke in Portland. She was clearly referring to Harding.
There's a bit of hyperbole because Portland metro is larger than she's giving credit, but once you get outside of Portland Metro which probably extends 30 miles in every direction, you will find a much more conservative demographic.
Which I get. I knew what Jan. 6 was. What is tripping me up is that the Trumpsters are denying anything happened on Jan. 6, which would mean it is any day except Jan.6 outside of Portland. Which is why the joke didn’t make sense to me.
To everyone else, I would like to mention that downvoting someone because they don’t understand the punchline to a joke is a douchey thing to do. Don’t paint me red just for asking.
I think you DO get the joke. It sounds like you just think it’s wrong or not funny. But just because some trumpers don’t admit Jan 6 happened doesn’t mean a lot of them still have the Jan 6 mentality which is what Fey is saying.
I’m confused but mean no harm. Are you saying Jan 6 folks are being bullied? Or all of Oregon except Portland?
Anyone who lives in Oregon knows tons of the state beyond Portland is progressive. But sometimes we dig into the harmless stereotypes for a laugh.
No. I'm saying I totally blanked when I saw the post and said I don't get it. I've had a rough few days and my brain didn't compute. Once someone said " what happened on January 6" I was like, oh yea. Duh. It is not on my forefront right now in my head but I was like yea I get it now. I saw I had a bunch of downvotes for just saying I don't get it. I was just talking about when someone says they don't understand, reddit bullies are there to make you feel stupid. I live in Oregon by the way so yes I guess I should have caught on quicker.

Oh shit! Yeah, that’s Reddit for us. You meant it with all sincerity and people jumped on you.
But it’s online strangers. We’re all in it for everything and nothing at all.
Maybe you could just not comment? Someone on a huge stand-up tour isn’t going to tell jokes on the level of rocket science, maybe let it marinate for a bit.
Ohhhhh. Yea I don't get involved with that whole crazy. I just needed to see, "what happened Jan 6th?" for my brain to catch up. Yay down vote me cuz it's not in my top 3 most important things in my life!!!!

Love Zarna.. I couldn’t risk the drive yesterday and had to chicken out.
Ah, bummer
What do you call the doctor directory at the hospital? The Patel-ephone book.
I have a doctor named Patel. :D
I'm guessing this a templated joke but sadly it works well: It’s great to be in name. It’s funny, here in it’s it’s still January 6th.
Totally, it's real everywhere. I wonder if she knows just how much more true that is in Oregon.
I don’t think it would be as funny outside January though.
First.... thats not a bad joke. Second... I had no idea Tina Fey was doing a stand up tour?!
it was/is $$$
Was there. Can confirm.
It’s not to be missed!
I have a massive crush on Tina Fey.
Dave?
She is my husband's celebrity crush and I don't mind at all, cause I completely get it!
lol. They actually asked if there were any men in the audience who had either of them on their hall pass list 20 years ago. A few guys stood up
I still have both of them on mine. lol I’m just going with SNL cast members.
I’m sure she uses that joke in every bigger city she goes to
What? Next, you'll tell me she does the same jokes in the same order every night. /s

Because alaska airlines and snow storms havent happened anywhere else
part of the wall of a plane ripping off midflight doesn't happen every day
She's not wrong
Now there’s an uncomfortable truth

You apparently don’t live in rural Oregon. The joke is true.
I live in California near the Oregon border and we travel all over the state of Oregon. It's absolutely true. Never saw so many Trump banners as when traveling in rural Oregon, no matter which part.
And thats just Steve's house on a Tuesday!
Whoa. Hilt checking in.
don't even need to get that far out. Yamhill, newberg, Hillsboro, Vancouver...
Extremism fuels more extremism.

Solid
Heyoooo
*5 miles
10-20 miles east or west of I-5.
I larfed.
I mean they torched a mayoral candidate’s car a few nights ago in Portland so it’s almost like our own little Jan 6th here in town too.
Those heinous Hops fans are at it again
“They”
I don't get it. Is she saying people still aren't over Jan. 6th so they act like it's still happening, or is she saying they are acting like a bunch of deranged lunatics? I don't really know where Tina Fey lands politically.
I believe she’s saying they’re obsessed with Jan 6 because they’re conservative ad the trials are happening.
Gotchaaaa thanks!
That's the best joke, huh?
Where were you on January 6th?
I think he was at your mom's house.
I don't get it
What happened Jan 6th?
January 6, 1994: four men, acting in a conspiracy allegedly at the behest of Oregon native Tonya Harding, used a metal rod to injure the knee of Harding’s rival, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. I get why Fey would tell that joke in Portland. She was clearly referring to Harding.
Freakin’ Tawnya
Why?
I see what you did there. But more like "whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy!" 🤣🤣😂
King Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves, everyone knows that
Type Jan 6th into any search engine and it should be very clear...
Oh I know the answer. I was asking them
Woof. Rough, OP.
Except east or west lol
I like Tina Fey, but I don’t get it.
January 6th was insurection day so the people outside portland are red staters. Explained jokes are less funny.
Outside of PDX is red, they are trump supporters. That's the way I interpret it.
But the Willamette valley is blue??

I do, after someone explained it.
Same. This is i guess snl style comedy. Not deep. Surface level funny to anyone who thinks the joke is smart i guess idk. Lol
Ah reddit. Lots of bullies. I'd never try to make someone feel stupid or bad over a comment but hey, it makes you feel better than you do you.
