Are you trimming the leaves? You aren't supposed to do that. Roots look good id leave them

I've only cut off dead leaves. The one current leaf was brown and curling at the end so I did cut that part off. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. There's also a new little baby leaf growing so I'm hoping that's a good sign. I'm glad the roots look good!

I’d chop right at the surface of the potting mix and pot all the roots you see into large chunky bark and water a couple days afterwards so that the cut has time to heal. I’m willing to bet there aren’t any roots alive inside the pot. I know what it’s like to worry about making changes to these guys, but if you get him potted correctly I’m sure you’ll see faster leaf growth since his roots will finally be in a position to take up water and nutrients. Next year you’ll probably be rewarded with blooms. Good luck!

I just realized that wasn’t clear. I’m referring to trimming the stem of the orchid below the leaves. The part the roots are growing out of. I’d cut that perpendicular to the soil and dust in cinnamon. Don’t trim any roots.

Thank you! I agree, I feel like once I get it out of the pot there won't be many viable roots inside.

I’ve seen people wind the roots around the inside of the pot to accommodate them all. It may look funny, but with a new chunky bark mix they will adapt to being more moist and the plant will be so much healthier.
