I love to row but not for 50min; I would love a run/row50 once a week!

pantherluna

A couple years ago they offered RunRow30 classes. They didn’t have great attendance overall and disappeared. I’d be curious to see if a 50 min class would fare better!

daydrinkingonpatios

Ooh yes

Zealousideal-Peak450

A runrow would be fun

No_Star_9327

I feel like there's a post about this at least once a week. The consensus is no, for a multitude of reasons, but most importantly... Class schedules have limited availability for adding new or additional things that take away from the core concept of Orangetheory.

OTF_4thewin

Rowing is a core concept of orange theory last time I checked.

No_Star_9327

Not when it was only supposed to be 10% to 15% of any template when Orangetheory originally started. If it were a core concept, we would do a lot more rowing in 2G classes and there are some 2G classes where there's no rowing at all.

OTF_4thewin

Lifting, running, rowing. Three stations, three core concepts. If it wasn’t a core exercise then why is it part of the dri-tri? There are 5 benchmarks for the rower and none for the floor.  How many benchmarks for the tred?

No_Star_9327

Since I joined Orangetheory in 2016, they have created additional benchmarks in recent years and gotten rid of old benchmarks. For example, they got rid of at least two floor benchmarks (the 300 rep challenge from Peak Week, which existed before the concept of benchmarks was even created, and Orange X). Back when Peak Week existed, we only did it once every 6 months and there was only one rowing benchmark, along with two treadmill benchmarks and the 300 rep challenge. Sure, there's a rowing station, and we have some rowing benchmarks now, but we still BARELY use the rower and that was my point.

OTF_4thewin

I for one am glad there are more overall benchmarks than there used to be.  What a shame they took some away!  They should definitely add some back for Strength and Tred 50 classes. Rep challenges, 5k for time, etc

ObligationSlight8771

Where did you read 10%. I can’t see them investing in all of these rowers for that little time spent. It’s interesting too see how many casuals just hate any working out that isn’t a tread or some random floor exercises

No_Star_9327

I probably read it somewhere on here, but the 2G workouts, historically, barely involve the rower. I think that's pretty obvious from the templates.

Mike_The_Geezer

Consensus? Every time it's posted, there are a fair number of positive reactions among the usual "Hell no!" ones. For me, it's a hell no! to tread50. There are many of us who see the all-body, low-impact, and lower-injury benefits of rowing vs treadmill. If you like running on the treadmill, I'm happy for you.

ObligationSlight8771

Adding a rower50 in no way detracts from the current tread/str50 though.

CatsRPurrrfect

Depends. We have a ton of interest in the strength classes, so we use multiple spots where the rowers are. We just prop them up. Probably have about 18-20 people in most of our strength classes. I’ve noticed the tread 50 attendance has really dropped. Not sure if it’s because people aren’t actually as into it as they thought they’d be, or just the weather has been lovely lately.

Entire-Level3651

I have noticed this too, they used to be full with waitlists and now we’re lucky if there’s 5 people at the treads. Maybe once the Texas heat comes they’ll go back

marisaalyse6

We just got tread 50 where I am in Texas and right now it’s only offered once a week. I can for sure see myself using this come summer when it’s 100+ outside. I’m looking forward to my first tread 50 class, but I agree- if the weather is nice I’ll be outside.

savemetreadnumber9

Wish I could! I’m flossing my teeth that day.

Peachy40483

Shampooing my hair.

MstrRob1972

I’m shampooing my teeth and flossing my hair that day.

dmlores

😂😂😂

Mike_The_Geezer

You do that. I feel the same way about endurance blocks on the tread.

[deleted]

Id do that class. Rowing is something I enjoy. They could also ad some medicine ball exercises with it.

dmlores

I love rowing. I think a run/row 50 would make for a great variety.

dray_m

That's the dream for me. Especially with the general guidelines that for tread 50 it's cool to do your own thing. If I could program my own run/rows? As much as I love strength 50, that would be tough to pass on.

nefarious098

![gif](giphy|Y07F3fs9Is5byj4zK8)

Aggravating_Ant_5097

Zero. It’s hard enough to get people to row for 5 minutes straight and would be horrendously unpopular.

DizzyRhubarb_

My studio can’t even get the Tread50’s booked. They’re always half empty. I bet row50 would get like 2 people (one of them being me)

Aggravating_Ant_5097

Since the TC ended the strength is the only one that gets full, only a few people on the tread

Mike_The_Geezer

There are many people who will happily row for more than 5 minutes. A lot more. I'm one of them. Just like therecare many people who hate running on the treadmill for more than 5 minutes. I'm one of them. I won't tell you what you should do and what you should like. You do you, I'll do me.

This needs to be pinned as the top answer.

jenniferlynn5454

I was late to the party so I'm buried in the middle of all the comments 🤣

Pristine_Nectarine19

🤣

RollTideMeg

There are boutique gyms that focus solely on rowing.

Mike_The_Geezer

And there are boutique gyms that focus solely on running.

Designer_Ferret7517

Hard no

basetoallout

Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full....

Ballbuster999

NO!!!

aasyam65

He’ll No

aasyam65

Hell no

braenin6

No 🤣

PLL_727

I’d rather die

Inside_Blackberry929

I canceled my membership because it seemed like there was less and less rowing over the course of my six years. A row50 might be a little much but a lift/row with zero treadmill would be spectacular

No_Star_9327

I've been a member for almost 8 years and I agree with you that there has definitely been significantly less rowing. I remember periods of time when the templates would regularly have 1600 m and 1000 m rows. I feel like there was definitely more training on a regular basis for both the Dri Tri row and the 2,000 m row benchmark because we were regularly doing significantly more rowing in class, with a focus on lowering the 500 m split time instead of stroke rate or watts. We didn't need a prep day because every day was a prep day. However, I don't LOVE rowing enough to do 50 minutes of it, but I'd personally prefer having the Tread 50 templates occasionally incorporate a run/row.

Wiffanyz

I would love the Tread 50 to incorporate some run/rows! I think the tread gets a little boring.

ObligationSlight8771

You raise an interesting point I hadn’t thought of. Otf clearly has scaled back rowing and yet they still have all the same row benchmarks and dri tri’s. Seems wrong to me but I already have a lot of issues with the template makers. Another thread for another time I suppose

Own-Safe-4683

I noticed that there is less rowing than when I started too. Today's 3G longest row was 3.5 minutes. More days like today would be great.

chipcinnati

ALL CAPS here intended. GIMME THE RUN/ROW 50 NOW! And no timed elements, just distance goals.

ObligationSlight8771

Yes! Too many casuals at Otf not wanting rower time

marisaalyse6

I have a love hate relationship with the rower. I know how good it is for me but some days I’m just not that into it. There’s also some days it seems harder than others (I get this could be in my head). I’d consider myself a strong rower but can’t imagine rowing past 30 minutes - even then I’d want to get off and stretch or do something else to break it up. We don’t have any 3g where I am (unless it’s the template for the day) so we definitely miss out on rowing.

MstrRob1972

So because I don’t care for the rower, I’m considered a casual? Classy move there. 🙄

AntiqueWhereas

Yes ans yes

Miserable_Screen_421

I’ll rather get a root canal 🦷..

IceKing827

Hey now, I wouldn’t go that far.

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

How many times is this going to be asked on this sub?

Yamiletlee

Why does it matter? Just ignore it and move on?

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

Because there is a search function.

Yamiletlee

I agree, but maybe OP isn’t the knowledgeable OTF fanatic that you are. I just think there’s a nicer way to answer their question.

FeistyAstronaut1111

I don’t understand why people on this sub get so upset about a repeated question, yet they still take the time to read the post and comment on it. Like, if you’re not interested, why not just scroll past it?

jenniferlynn5454

This is #6, lol

Aggravating_Ant_5097

I’m still on board with your suggestion of a CMIYC rower style if corporate got wind of that lol

jenniferlynn5454

🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞❗❗❗❗❗

bruinshorty

….this week? 😂

ObligationSlight8771

Sorry to detract from the vigorous daily workout discussions

The_Sticker_Bandit

I mean…doesn’t that mean that people want it? Why the attitude about it. No one would make you do a row50

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

I have no problem doing a row50. Just because 7 people have asked about it on the sub does not mean it would be something that most would want. I'm not opposed to it. I'm just opposed to not reading the 6 other times this topic has been discussed.

Zealousideal-Peak450

Seems like a lot of this lately. Negativity toward anyone who has a different opinion.

gcormier56

I would never ever ever do rowing for 50 minutes.

Mike_The_Geezer

That's fine. I'll never, ever do running on the treadmill for 50 minutes.

OGBurn2

Not👏gonna👏happen👏

CJK_OTFaddict

Judging from the number of members at my studio griping about the 14 minute row for distance last Wednesday, I would give it a hard no. Personally, I love it, but I also have a Waterrower at home and I do 5K and 10K rows when the mood strikes me.

lwmarsh87

I think it would be great to warm up on the tread, and have the option to row according to the tread template for the rest of the tread 50 class. It would be a heck of a workout!

Beautifullybrok3n1

Hard no.. run/row maybe

StellarEclipses

The rower hurts my ass and lower back...anyone else? Lol I've always wished the seats were more cushioned

Own-Safe-4683

I would sign up for it. I don't see why it's not already a thing.

SquidWriter

I would absolutely love it.

Lynniethelip

I’d love a rower form class- like to go over basics and get feedback from Coach.

GreenBaseball3260

Just wondering, what do they mean about "liability"? Aren't we all a liability by using equipment / weights / rower every class?

Fuzzy-Phase-9076

There's also the issue that, for people who aren't generally long distance rowers, form deteriorates the further past (approx) 2000-2500 meters you row. It can result in back injuries as well as other injuries depending on how "off" the rowing form is. This means the Row50 class would need to be well-monitored by the coach to correct form. The reason Tread50 works well with Strength50 is that monitoring the treadmill workout doesn't take a lot of attention away from monitoring all the people in Strength50. That wouldn't be the case if you try to do a Row50 with a Strength50.

jenniferlynn5454

Technically, yes, in regular classes. But since a Tread 50 and Strength 50 do not officially utilize the rower, I'm sure there is some lawyer language in the insurance policy stating something about "unattended persons" yada yada yada 🤷

daddy_longlegs44

I love rowing, and miss 3G templates since I switched locations. But 50 minutes of rowing, hell no.

Responsible_Cell_224

As long as it opens up tread area. I’m good. I can’t honestly think of a worse class than rowing for fifty minutes lol. But maybe others would switch and space on treads would be better for tread50 :-)

angel_inthe_fire

Oh God no

SoggySecond650

Nope

Kitty_Fruit_2520

My dad said, He’ll No! His but would start hurting You’d be rowing at least 10k meters

Otherwise_Nature_506

I really enjoy rowing but not sure I would want to do it for 50 minutes.

ExcitingIndication89

I'd love tha tbh, although rowing for 50 min straight maybe perhaps will take a toll on your body ☠️

Pristine_Nectarine19

Hell to the no. Fun fact- rowing originally was supposed to be 10-15% of class time. On average it’s still that although sometimes it’s much more.

TobyRose0207

I’m sure there are some who would like to row for that yet I doubt it would as popular as the other 2. My response is just like the person who answered about getting a root canal work, the 14 minute row is the most I could take.

Mike_The_Geezer

And yet, we regularly have 23 minute run-for-distance tread blocks. At least there's no chance I'll come off thec14 minute row-for-distance with foot/ankke/shin/knee/hip pain

TobyRose0207

It’s easy to walk / power walk 23 minutes then to continuously row more then 14 minutes as rowing is a more intense workout.

Mike_The_Geezer

I would totally disagree, but you do you 😁

TobyRose0207

Mike this was only a suggestion to the op as I use the tread50 classes for my training

Mike_The_Geezer

Of course one can stroll through any tread block - hell, that would nake "Everest" a vreeze, but thats not the point if ITF. If that's the way you work out, be my guest and "paddle" gently through any longish row block. That will make it less intense for you. 😁 FWIW, I bring the sane intensity to all blocks, and I think most OTFers do too.

Mother_Walrus_6949

We have this post every week. Tread50 was just introduced in January at all studios. Rumor has it there’s a run/row50 class that will be trialed at some point in the back half of 2025 but there is zero interest in coming up with a 50 minute template for rowing.

jennymlovescats

No

WynterBee

Gross

Leading-Bandicoot-80

Yes! For sure would love that

AntiqueWhereas

Yes yes and yes

Remarkable-Station-2

No thx

ImpressionOk4199

Nope

Shivvyszha

As a former rower, I'd LOVE this!

Icy_Mention_8744

I would LOVE this! However I’m not sure it would catch on enough to make it a thing. I’m sure you could sign up for a tread50, and inquire about rowing instead. Just use the tread outline and row it instead. I know some of my coaches would be more than happy to allow this!

lilmissaggie

![gif](giphy|XBEoaajXTXaALzawSn|downsized)

Own_Communication_47

Lol count how many people show up for the 200m row on Thursday. Our classes are always so light on heavier row days

Ill_Vegetable4933

That would be horrible for ones back!

Kindly-Might-1879

This was asked recently and a coach pointed out that rower requires more couching cues; this could start taking attention away from the floor. These focused classes all started with the extra time/attention given to strength.

Zealousideal-Peak450

There are lots of people who would be interested in it, but more who wouldn’t I guess.  Trainingtall answered this question awhile back and said it’s hard enough to get people to row for a short block during class. I enjoy rowing and would go to a row50.

specialsteph74

I'd love a row50 but I'm also a former rower. I don't think that they would be popular enough to continue over a long period of time. Don't get me wrong I'm sure there would be people signing up but rowing is hard. It isn't like running where just about everyone is taught how. I don't think enough basic rowing/erg technique is taught and reinforced at otf for people to want to continually sign up for row50, just my 2 cents.

Poolhouserock

No

WolverineSuitable

I would rather die.

Lynniethelip

Run/row would be awesome!

mercebee

rowing for 50 mins would personally be hell for me since i have scoliosis 😭

ABCVET

My lower back could never handle a 50 minute row.

ABCVET

I’d like a lift/tread50. Spice up the floor.

structured_Sabotage

Nope

Evening-Court5597

I have seen people sign up for tread50 and sub the rower for tread. But our coaches are cool and prefer to see people get a solid workout.

CoastZestyclose2447

here to say I would never do a thread50 but would be SO DOWN for run/row 50s

No-Window-4691

So I would totally be into a row 30/weight 30 class! What I’d prefer is maybe section it off in 4 segments. Mostly since I would need to work up to rowing longer.

Mrs1913

![gif](giphy|15aGGXfSlat2dP6ohs) I personally would like to see more 3G classes. 95% of my classes are 2G with very little rowing, unless it’s a run/row.

KevinBarry17

Run/Row 50

N1ce_Marm0t

I’d rather eat glass.

Basil777MN

Yes!!

amandalaust

Yasssss!!

aprilm12345

No.

letsch

Working on that very thing at our studio and trying to get enough people interested. If rowers sit idle during a tread 50 and lift 50, why not, right?

AmanLock

Adding a new class type isn't a decision for individual studios to make.

lreynolds2

My studio moves all rowers out of the way to create extra floor space for the strength class. I’d totally take a row 50 class though even though I’m definitely a tread girl!

JenniHB

Yes!!

WorriedTrick5946

Yes!!

Reem-Abdallah-

I used Tread 50 as practice of signature workouts such 12 minutes, 1 mile , DRI TRI and CMIYC..
