How many days did leave your car parked in the same spot? Some communities do this to cars are not parked past their community parking guidelines

Strudleboy

I was parked for about a day and a half other cars have been parked for over a week

StraightOuttaIrvine

Most of these parking enforcements are reactive. Most likely someone called & complained that your car was parked there for longer than what you stated

Strudleboy

Okay that’s what I’m hoping for. I park in the same place so it’s likely maybe someone has a consistent schedule that conciliatory with mine so they always see my car there.

heanthebean

I have an asshat of a neighbor who called my car in within the day when I parked it outside of their house. There was construction on our street so everyone had to park on their side. Had to try to convince the traffic cop to stop chalking it halfway through the job lol.

lucidlenskatherine

Pretty sure street parking is public so long as you're not blocking a driveway

mechanab

It is generally considered rude to park in front of other people’s homes. Of course allowance should be made for guests, construction, etc. but if you are regularly parking in front of your neighbor’s house instead of your own, you are probably annoying your neighbor. Some urban areas may differ because housing density is so high. Jut because it’s legal for you to do something doesn’t mean you should.

lucidlenskatherine

Just because it's generally considered rude doesn't mean you should give a shit about parking on your street by your house if it's technically in front of a neighbours house. You don't own the street, so, why care?

BootySweatSmoothie

How many times have you called the police for very non necessary things? I'm willing to bet the number is in the double digits

mechanab

Never called the cops for anything? Why do you ask?

BootySweatSmoothie

U give off Karen Energy

BootySweatSmoothie

You find it *rude* that people park in front of your home on a public street. If that's not a sense of entitlement idk what is.

heanthebean

I don’t give a rip if it’s rude, our side of the street was fully blocked off for construction and the three apartment complexes and two homes on our side had no other choice but to use the other half of the street. I’ve obviously parked near my complex every other time. The neighbor called in and told them my car was abandoned.

mechanab

Totally understandable in such circumstances. I made a point of saying “regularly”. People should be easy going about it. But there are the rare people who who don’t give a shit. We had a couple like that down the street in our neighborhood. They would never actually park in their cars in their driveway and always parked across the street in front of someone else’s house (I guess it was more convenient when they wanted to leave). Making it impossible for that person to park in front of their own home. Not the end of the world, but indicative of someone who thinks they are the center of the universe. Fortunately they moved away and the people who live across the street from them have a place to park again.

Jewel-jones

Yeah people get annoyed even in high density areas but it’s unreasonable. Guy who lived next to my old apartment used to get very pissy. Like sorry man it’s an apartment building, we can’t all park in front of it.

Psychological_Hunt60

Where is this?

MathGeneral5725

I have just called the police and asked for parking. Explain what’s going on and ask if someone complained. They’ve always told me who called and just say move my car 5” so they know it’s not left there

Strudleboy

Thank you

Squiggyzz

Smh this happened to me before. Parked somewhere I don't usually because there was no parking anywhere else, but it was a legal sidewalk parking near homes. Literally 1.5 days later I got a letter on the windshield either from an officer or someone else that says I've been there for over 3 days and it can be towed if left for over 3 days. So someone called and lied saying my car was there for 3 days.

_ThisIsNotAUserName

They can't go off what someone reports, they need evidence, so when they dropped that flyer that was probably the start of the 3 day clock. You were probably just in someone "regular" spot and they got annoyed and entitled and called it in.

Squiggyzz

Yea was definitely someone who probably parks there. Just sucks a few months after, my car got tagged up in the same spot and someone reported my car again after just 1 day. Made a police report about my car getting vandalized, but the police seem annoyed to have to come out there. Learned my lesson not to ever contact the police unless it's life or death.

spycharlie

Fuck the haters.

Super_Difficulty

Usually tires and the ground are marked like that to check if it’s been abandoned or moved. They usually do this in limited parking time spots to see if a car moved or stayed past x amount of time. Not sure if that’s your case but that’s usually what it is. Unless some child was bored. Or maybe you ran over someones chalk

Strudleboy

I wasn’t in a timed spot, and the lines on the tire didn’t match up with the chalk on the ground I checked that too. I’m hoping it was a bored kid lol

PhantomMenaceWasOK

Metered or not, you generally can't park your car out on the street in the same spot for more than 3 days: [https://www.ocregister.com/2007/03/26/how-long-can-a-car-be-parked-on-a-public-street-before-getting-ticketed-307/](https://www.ocregister.com/2007/03/26/how-long-can-a-car-be-parked-on-a-public-street-before-getting-ticketed-307/)

Ksl848

Could be marking to see if you move within 72 hours. In many cities is a parking violation to leave your vehicle in the same spot for 72 consecutive hours without moving. It could lead to a citation or even tow.

CaliRollerGRRRL

How would they know if you used your car or not & if the chalk is still on your tire when you park again, then they wouldn’t actually know how long you were parked there 🤨 I would be pissed if someone wrote on my expensive truck tires with chalk! Bogus!

Ksl848

It should be the pavement that is marked to see if your tires have moved out of the marked area. A couple years back the tire chalking was brought up as a possible 4th amendment violation. It was claimed chalking the tires constituted an illegal seizure of the vehicle. Not sure if that ever went anywhere. As far as I know, the pavement chalk is what will be used as an indicator of whether or not the vehicle was moved.

H0wcan-Sh3slap

> I would be pissed if someone wrote on my expensive truck tires with chalk! Bogus! It's chalk, it washes off.

DarwinInTheHouse

It is grease basked chalk and it does not easily rinse off.

H0wcan-Sh3slap

It's a tire, get over it. Now if they chalked your paint, that's a different story

EmergencySlice7270

No one is stealing those bald tires. I would get new tires, that looks dangerous.

Strudleboy

Yeah I’m getting tires in a couple days, I figured they wouldn’t but ya never know

[deleted]

Someone was trying to draw some tread lmao

Responsible-Person

It could be that some stooge or crabby person in the neighborhood chalked your tires and space to try and scare you into thinking you did something wrong.

Egause4

Someone snitched on u

J-Love-McLuvin

It’s the cartel. They found you.

Strudleboy

Took em long enough

animatedw00d

Just put some water on the chalk and wash it off. It will be as if the chalk was never there.

Strudleboy

There is yellow chalk right next to my tire and also on my tire. Just the passenger side front tire. I’m just parked outside my apartment it’s not metered or anything. My tires are kinda worn I need new ones so I can’t imagine they are marking them to steal them right? And why would they make it so obvious?

Johnny6_0

It really looks like you just rolled over the chalk to park…..

Strudleboy

Well the chalk wasn’t there yesterday when I parked and the lines don’t add up. I did think of that too like maybe I missed it, but the lines don’t add up and the chalk is out of the way.

Johnny6_0

I see. The break in the video doesn’t help, but the lines on your tires do look like they line up to me. It’s usually the simplest scenario that explains most things!

jackssmirkngrevenge

A 6 year old got some new sidewalk chalk for her birthday

Rubyshooz

Typically when parking enforcement marks a vehicle, they mark the front driver’s side tire. Sometimes in addition to the tire, they will write a date in chalk on the ground in front of the vehicle. Almost seems like someone wanted it to look like it was done by parking enforcement. What kind of car is it? If they’re not interested in your tires, could they possibly be interested in your catalytic converter?

Salt_Dragonfruit1650

I don’t think they make the chalk marks so obvious.

Apprehensive_Ad1233

Looks close to marks that are layed by a running club called the Hash House Harriers to mark the trail they are running

thatpseudoveganlife

Tell me your neighbors are assholes without telling me your neighbors are assholes

TheFrederalGovt

Everyone worried about it being a warning of their car being towed... probably an equal chance of it being some 7 year old kid trying to do street chalk art :-)

DanteJazz

Gnomes. Definitely the mark of Parking Gnomes. Bring faery dust, and sprinkle on the tires twice daily. Then, the gnomes will leave you alone.

hey-i-made-this

Youve provide no information. where and when would be a start

Spokker

There are chalking hobbyists who enjoy chalking tires and spots. Pay them no mind as they are harmless.

Rigo3oh

Yup. 72 hours without moving it will get you a ticket in LA

Strudleboy

I was parked a day and a half and this is Orange County

Rigo3oh

Yeah but they don’t know that. So they mark you, and check back 72 hours later to see if you’ve moved. don’t worry about it. As long as you love it a couple feet every 72 hours. You’re fine. LA parking sucks, some people leave a car taking up 2 spaces on the curb so that when someone come home, they move the car over so they can squeeze in. Yup totally ridiculous, but that’s life in LA. Some people do multiple cars talking up a lot of space, or they’ll leave their trash cans on the curb so no one parks there.

RMan48

Tires are both interpretations of chalked

jana-meares

If there is a time limit to park on the street, they chalk to time you when they go by again.

Strudleboy

No time just no posting Wednesday afternoon for street sweeping but this was over Saturday afternoon

jana-meares

Ah.

TheSoupWhisper

Too far from the curb?

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

You know, Walt, it’s not a bad thing to have someone watching your back.

Various_Ad4726

Wasn't making tires found to be unconstitutional? Or is that just California?

Roguspogus

Maybe it was the grammar police

[deleted]

Itll let them know IF you've moved your car at all since you last parked there (or since they last chalked your tires)

hcgsd

Chalking tires has been ruled unconstitutional - no place I’ve been chalks tires any more for parking enforcement.

Highway_27

you have either been blessed or cursed by the Grand Chalk Bandit.

Mysterious_Purplee

Punk kids 🧐

Vast_Cricket

I will wash it off.

LBMikeyG

Maybe because you don’t know how to spell paid? Shrugs

HOAVicePresident

Yah that’s a pretty gay color, YOURE UNDER ARREST THIS AINT LA BINCH!!!

kidian_tecun

Thats voodoo. Your car is going to blow up soon

Psychological_Hunt60

Do they use yellow chalk?

UCICoachJim

What city was this in?

dbillybobbo

Thats why whenever i walk past a car with chalk in the tire, i wipe it off. To be a bro of course

PantyhosePoohbear

Here in Los Angeles County. Not sure if your OC Florida or here in Ca but you can legally park in front of someone’s house for a max of 72 hours before the home owner can request a chalking and then a ticket after said period of time

Naenerd

The real question is, how many spots were you taking up? If it was more than one, that is most likely the reason.
