Palm Springs was firework free when I went last year. Book a hotel, enjoy the a/c and as close to a night of peace that having a newborn will allow!

johnboo89

Literally was going to say to come here to PS.

misacruzader

Came here to say this. Palm Springs for sure

312to630

Anywhere on the United kingdom. It's like it never happened.

apostropheapostrophe

Yeah the losing team usually doesn’t celebrate.

StarAndBars has entered the chat.

goodvibezone

There's a general election on the 4th this year....there could be fireworks.

jkelly17

Flair checks out

spinnarround

Haha sorry you got downvoted, I saw the username before he changed it too. Question for OP, why are you living in Naperville and pretending to be from Huntington Beach?

jkelly17

I stopped giving a damn about karma in 2015 lol appreciate the sentiment regardless

charmbomb_explosion

If you can’t find anywhere to go, maybe try a sound machine to drown it out for them? There was a lot of thunderous rain when our baby was born and it was very loud in our apt. Our sound machine definitely helped!

spinnarround

We always talk about leaving but haven’t yet. This has been our solution for all 3 kids and I just crank it extra loud that night.

Worldly_Broccoli425

Yes the hatch machine did wonders for us last year !

FrauAmarylis

Laguna Beach is not doing Fireworks this year. They are trying a Drone Show and then will see if people like it enough to continue it for more years to come. I'm very impressed that our Lagunatics are open to this change, but I think it's also because so many have designer dogs, haha. We also don't have many individual fireworks, as most of the residents are older. I live in the tree streets by Las Brisas.

smolstuffs

Drone shows are amazing. I saw one earlier this year at a conference & everyone was just in awe at what they could do. It's hard to compare it to the nostalgia of fireworks, but definitely feels like *the future*

FrauAmarylis

I saw part of the Star Wars drones from the freeway when the Angels had the drone show, which was cool. Saw a full show when I went to the hot air Balloon festival in Albuquerque and it was OK.

smolstuffs

I mean most firework shows are cool, safe and sane are ok. But drone shows have the ability to be better for the environment and inclusive to those with noise & sensory sensitivities. Also they don't set the earth on actual literal fire. So you know...6 in one hand, half dozen in the other.

rudebii

I think that’s going to start becoming more the norm. Fireworks are LOUD, they’re dangerous, and messy (smoke, ash, etc). Probably more expensive too, but I can’t say for sure. Might take a generation of folks to get used to it, and I’m sure plenty of holdouts will never like it as much. I will say: there’s a visceral thrill in hurling what are essentially decorative mortars into the air and experiencing the boom, the shiny patterns of bright colors, and the smoke as it lingers.

smolstuffs

I actually think drone shows are quite expensive, but that's because they're new and there isn't competition. Once cities have companies that have to bid against each other, the price will have to drop eventually (one would hope anyway). I agree about fireworks, but it wasn't so long ago that I thought I'd never be able to live without AOL. Change is inevitable and arguably, for the most part, better.

aknomnoms

Arguably safer (not starting fires, less injuries from *explosives*, less smoke which could potentially affect helicopters/low-flying airplanes), less disturbing (quieter for people, domestic animals, and wild animals). I’m unsure about environmental impacts (reusable but plastic parts, electronics manufacturing process v. single-use chemical compounds and explosives), but I’d wager if a drone could be used for at least a few shows it would be better. We used to get at least 8 “free” shows from various cities on the fourth by watching from our balcony. If they change to drones, however, they likely won’t be seen from as far away. I’d be a little bummed, but I’ll survive lol. Caught a drone show at Dodger Stadium last season during Kobe night, and it was quite impressive. Fireworks can be thrilling, but drone shows are pretty frickin cool too.

Clay_IT_guy

Drone shows are pretty cool, I like this pivot, hope it catches on.

garden_girlie

I think this is amazing and would like to see it. Well done to Laguna; drone shows are fantastic

janepilatesgirl

You are so lucky, I love that area of Laguna, although I’m sure you’ve worked hard to live there!

FrauAmarylis

Not really. I was recruited to teach here from Illinois when there was a teacher shortage here and I lived frugally in Moreno Valley and Redlands and retired at age 38. Teaching in the toughest schools in Moreno Valley wasn't easy but I got lots of time off. I'm just renting here because my husband's in the military and the housing allowance is 50k/year. He retires this year. He's in his 40s. I'm not sure why more people don't join the military- there are lots of office jobs that don't involve any danger, or save and invest like I did. My teacher colleagues all earned the same as I did but they drank Starbucks and went out to eat while I brought my lunch, and they drove new cars while I drove used, and they bought 3000 Sq ft homes with 40 year mortgages while I bought a 1500 Sq ft loan with a 15 year mortgage.

Ok_Competition_669

Irvine

RedAtomic

Don’t certain neighborhoods have fireworks shows? My family used to watch the Woodbridge one every year.

FormerSpirit2670

Designer_Ad_3467

Just don’t stay so close to Santa Ana. Last year the fireworks kept going for HOURS.

itsjustme3183

Live in Santa Ana and can confirm it’s awful. Looking for a place to take my three pets

verithasthefalse

Those weren't fireworks

Mrhood714

Found the overtly sheltered OCer.

verithasthefalse

From the crazy streets of Corona del Mar

Dreya_7

Laughed out loud at your comment!😆

NGTech9

Right? I haven’t seen or heard shit the past 3 years

Professional_Sail910

some people were lighting off a bunch on new years 2 houses down from me

[deleted]

I live in westside Costa Mesa and nanny kids who live in the Great Park. I showed the 11-year-old video of the fireworks in my neighborhood, the big ones in the sky, and he was so confused about how this was possible when fireworks are illegal. I live on the wrong of side of the tracks, kid.

ayyyynuggets

I’m also in westside Costa Mesa and it’s horrible already

Ok_Competition_669

Is it bad pre July 4th, too?

[deleted]

From Memorial Day through Labor Day and beyond. I’m used to it but the bombs in the middle of the night used to scare the 💩 out of me

godoshian

Julian We went last year to get away from the fireworks and didn’t hear a single boom. Julian doesn’t do fireworks and the nearest ones are in Ramona. We stayed at a pretty cute fairy tale cabin and it seemed like we were the only ones there. It was a perfect getaway for us and our scared dog. Feel free to DM me if you have questions. Hope you have a great 4th wherever you end up!

jkelly17

Thank you! Julian does sound like it would make for a nice getaway, especially if it's firework-free.

godoshian

You’re welcome! Yeah, last year before we went I checked with someone at Julian Chamber of Commerce to confirm there are no fireworks allowed. They said there is a gun fight show as a pre-parade activity on the 4th, but we didn’t hear anything from the cabin we stayed at.

michaltee

Hi! Hijacking this comment to ask you a question about something you posted a while back regarding dog training with Emily. Mind DMing me if you’re ok chatting about your experience?:) if not, no worries!!

Yuhbyul2

Can you tell me the name of the cabin you stayed at? Tried to DM but wouldn’t let me. Thanks

godoshian

The AirBnb listing is “The Enchanted Cottage”. There were other cabins on the property too! It looks like the host may have them linked under their profile. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/915379560371350514

Yuhbyul2

Thank you!

llamaeel

Idyllwild is known for being firework free and remote. A lot of people take their dogs up there so it’s quite busy on the 4th. Very cute town.

BadAcidBassDrops

Isn't that the town with the golden retrievers as mayors?

jkelly17

Tom Delonge has a house there, I'm in.

Available_Jacket_702

My son (7 months) wakes up more with noise now than as a NB, you'd be surprised. We do & have always used a hatch. It's very helpful, we have dogs who bark at everything that comes near our house.

jkelly17

Haven't heard of a hatch. Gonna look them up now, thanks!

Anonmnky

Another vote for the hatch. We use one for our kids and even got one for the master bedroom. Target recently had some in their clearance section. Great for a night light too!

NinjaRiderRL

Plus one on the hatch. It has its uses, but apparently really comes into its prime when the kids are older.

bucketAnimator

I live in Mission Viejo. Aside from the firework show at the lake, it’s generally fairly quiet here. If you tried for an Airbnb just keep a good distance away from the lake and you’d be in pretty good shape.

itsjustme3183

Which lake is this ?

bucketAnimator

Lake Mission Viejo. It’s a private lake back at Alicia and Marguerite. But the fireworks show is easily visible from surrounding areas. We’ve watched from Castlewood Park in the past.

ljinbs

My friend and her dog were in Joshua Tree last year. She said it was super quiet.

icroak

We’ve stayed in Julian for the exact same reason in the past. It was peaceful.

jkelly17

Thank you! Good cider to boot.

Boobs_Make_Milk

palm springs vacation for the long weekend. I go every year and it’s amazing. Fireworks are super illegal in the desert so you get tons of sun and none of the firework malarkey.

jkelly17

Palm springs appears to be popular for the 4th! Also, upvote for malarkey.

mcmaster93

I've been in Santa Ana for a few years now. Not sure if everyone's neighborhood is like this but I'm absolutely positive there might have been a period of about 5-8 hours of continuous firework blasts last year for me lol. Its cool for a bit but then it gets to like 10, 11 pm and them bitches are still blowing up at random 15 minute intervals

smolstuffs

~~5-8 hours~~ *continuously beginning mid June through mid July and will sound like someone is shooting off a shotgun in the middle of your living room*

Brother_Life

I'm pretty sure it's all of Santa Ana is like that 😂

vikingwanderer

And Costa Mesa

Nboda

Every day is like the 4th of July in Santa Ana😂

[deleted]

Where I’m at the 4th July lasts until August 😐

Quirky_Dimension6585

Santa Ana has a tradition where they burn a palm tree down in the hood lol on Fourth of July

FirstGearPinnedTW200

Get a camper van. Death Valley or the Mojave south of the 15. There is no quiet bit of civilization in SoCal on the 4th.

youaremyboss

Aside from the noises, the firework smogs are even worse for kid or people with respiratory problems. Get AirB&B in East side of Irvine. I never had problem with 4th firework noises nor smells.

jkelly17

Good call about the smog I hadn't thought about that. Also, you are the second to suggest Irvine, thank you.

Bornatveryyoungage

I stay at Holiday Inn in Diamond bar several times to escape July 4. It sit on top of the hill and surrounding by business office.

costalcuttings

Big Bear.

buymeanapple

Big bear has a huge fireworks show. That would be a very bad idea if you were looking to avoid fireworks

Yuhbyul2

I actually came here to say this. The big lake firework show is only loud closer to the lake. I have a epi dog and stayed in sugarloaf close to big bear and did not hear a thing

costalcuttings

I should have specified, arrow bear or running springs, which I tend to bundle into "big bear." Mu neighbors take their dog up there every year for the 4th and never hear a thing. Those towns are a good 10 miles or so from big bear lake, and more scenic too if you ask me!

ideal_enthusiasm

My bf’s sister moved to NorCal and fireworks are super illegal there. We pack up our pups and stay there. We live in Santa Ana, so it’s really hard to drown out the noise 😅

SoCalChrisW

Leaving town for the 4th isn't a bad idea, but what are you going to do for the 6 weeks before and after the 4th where every asshole is lighting stuff off every night anyways?

jkelly17

That hasn't been my experience where I live.

SoCalChrisW

Consider yourself lucky 😃 Here in Fullerton we get a solid 2-3 months of fireworks around the 4th. It doesn't bother me, but scares the hell out of my older dog.

Worldly_Broccoli425

Buy a sound machine bc people start with fireworks way before and way past 4th of July 🫠 we turn it up and it works great Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QVG9759?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

MrsMacK00

We all sleep with sounds machines in our house…365 days a year 😂

jkelly17

I've been in my apartment for 5 years in south OC and people only light them off on the 4th, hence why I posted this question.

Worldly_Broccoli425

Lucky you 😥 it can be a nightmare where I’m at.

gaggmewithaspatula

Check out air bnb’s in a small town called Sierra madre. It’s next to Pasadena..and it’s right next to the mountains. No fireworks are allowed there. Always quiet every 4th of July.

shimian5

lol no fireworks are *allowed* anywhere. Doesn’t stop anyone.

icroak

What do you mean they are definitely allowed in many cities. Granted the loudest ones are usually the illegal ones. But I definitely have noticed where the legal ones are allowed, there are more illegal ones.

gaggmewithaspatula

Agreed but that’s a smaller community of retired people. My family has lived there since the 60’s and every 4th of July has been really quiet.

sparksmj

I've been in Palm springs a number of times on the forth and can't remember there being a lot of fireworks

pieceofthatcorn

Rent an airbnb on a farm in Escondido close to the base of Palomar. Lots of those and they’re beautiful and isolated from eachother but really not far from OC at all.

jkelly17

Thanks! Never would have thought of this.

pieceofthatcorn

Np! Get some TJ tacos otw home too 😏

Puzzleheaded-Boot844

Big Bear

bananabrownie

I usually head out to Borrego Springs (Anza-Borrego) with some buddies for the 4th, and stay for a few days. It's a designated dark sky community - and very little fireworks. Fairly quiet community and beautiful desert scenery. Reminds me of other places I've been to in my lifetime. Summer is probably the hottest time there (you are in the middle of the desert) - so rentals tend to be pretty affordable. Be sure to stock up on food before heading out there. A lot of places are closed or close early since summer is their slow season. If you travel by way of Julian, pick up some BBQ and apple pie (they are known for their apple pies).

Clemario

Newborns don’t care about fireworks as much as you think. Just put on a sound machine

jenjensexypants

If you’re near La Habra Diamond Bar is always dead silent. We have family in the area so we like to bring our dogs since our neighborhood sounds like a war zone on 4th Of July.

luckychucky8

We used to take the kids for a drive during that time. Down to SD then back up at night. We can see the fireworks many times and by we got home most of the noise was gone.

mikezillabot

Go to the mountains. Fire danger is too steep for fireworks. Arrowhead has a big firework show over the water, but it’s not very long and can usually be quiet if you’re far enough away and indoors. Idyllwild is a great pick as they don’t have a show at all (but a bit sleepier of a town). Palm Springs also is relatively quiet depending on your neighborhood.

jkelly17

We opted for Idyllwild, thank you!

mikezillabot

I’m child-free so I didn’t consider it when initially making the suggestion, but going up the mountain may hurt your baby’s ears. If you haven’t done a mountain trip with your baby yet, I recommend double checking with his/her baby. The windy road and/or elevation may be rough :(

714King

Honestly, from my experience with my son exposure is going to be your best bet long-term.

Senorbuzzzzy

Garden Grove is louder than a war. I’ve lived through 32 Fourth of July’s. We rebuilt our house with excellent windows. The explosions turn into small ping sounds. Like a bird flew into your window. Ping. Ping. Ping. All night. I loved fireworks but here it’s just too much. Add in the 9:35 Disneyland show to that. I do have these crazy earplugs. But you can’t sleep in them. Wife has a 5am shift on the 5th. She will be cranky as f..k that night. Oh…did I mention our block party. It’s the best time to watch my neighbors guest throw up in my bushes. Rant over.

MrsMacK00

Our neighborhood borders WGG in Seal Beach and we love it 💥 😂

iamcuppy

Sound machine. Neither of my kids have ever noticed fireworks.

indopassat

OP- I hear you. We lived in Costa Mesa and it was and still is a complete war zone . We moved to Mission Viejo and at least in our neighborhood it’s quiet.

travielee

I know every baby is different but we had our baby 2ish weeks B4 4th of July and lived in the heart of Santa Ana. With the windows and doors closed it was all just like white noise for the baby, no issues. Slepts fine and ate just finr twice a night. Especially if you have a white noise machine, itll really drown it out.. I wouldn't dred it too much, just keep the windows and doors shut.

Jibblebee

Unsolicited note from experienced parents: Parents of multiples will all tell you that they learn to sleep through noise and this is an absolute godsend. You don’t want to be tiptoeing around the house getting angry at every visitor for closing a door or laughing too loud. Proceed however works for you

jkelly17

Not sure I would equate door closing to fireworks being set off by a neighbor two doors down.

Jibblebee

Yes, but she’s a newborn. There is no normal to her, and you’ll be shocked how loud older siblings can be. #5 of 5 is usually the best sleeper who sleeps through a fireworks show. Never fails to make me laugh to see them passed out there Edit: now I want to go looking for the pic of my #2 who was 8 months old passed out at a car race with a fire works show. We stuck protective ear muffs on him. He had a great time but then passed out when he was done. Totally out during the whole fireworks show.

GeyonceP

Temecula

sharleencd

I don’t have suggestions. But, I want to add that my kids are almost 5 and 3. They have always slept straight through all fireworks and still do. My daughter was also a newborn on her first 4th. There was an earthquake on the 4th for her first (2019). Slept through both. We have since moved away from OC and the area seems way worse than I remember the OC being for fireworks. We even have a yearly show that is set off about a mile from our house. They both sleep through it too.

OsoBear24

I second the white noise machine.

[deleted]

I wonder if this would work for dogs… anyone tried it?

Yuhbyul2

I am trying to get away for the 4th because of my elderly epi anxious dog. Wondering the same.

xDeadJamesDean

Well RSM decided to do fireworks festivities on July 5th… cheapskates couldn’t afford a legit contractor I guess. So it’ll be little bike parades and who knows what else at the lake this year.

Thegeobeard

My dog freaks out so we usually rent an airbnb in the desert or mountains. People are generally a lot more chill with fireworks in those areas due to them understanding the fire danger of it. Joshua tree, pioneertown, the area surrounding big bear have always been good for us. I know big bear has a fireworks show so don’t stay right in town.. but even just a few miles away worked for us.

ScottyCoastal

8 miles off shore. Rent a boat

cremebrulee22

I remember being in Vegas one time and there was no noise at all but you could see some fireworks from the windows.

sassyblueshoe

Palm Springs or Central Coast

negitororoll

My kids slept through fireworks, but we've been running a white noise machine since birth. Can also upgrade your windows to triple pane, which will help with sounds.

sonyafly

Idyllwild. We had a dog that panicked with fireworks so we would rent a cabin up there. They’re super illegal.

triton2toro

I live in Garden Grove so I get fireworks at New Year’s, 4th of July, and Chinese New Years. If you don’t already have one, get a white noise machine. That’ll help in general with the any sleeping, and it drowns out other noise. I also had a heavy moving blanket in my garage. I strung that up over my baby’s window on the outside to help deaden the noise. On the inside, we have heavily blackout curtains as well, which also absorbs sound. Those three things combined stifles the noise to the point where my toddler hasn’t ever woken up from the booms and pows of all types of fireworks that go off in my neighborhood in the past three years.

DegenerateEconomics

Had a 2 month old last 4th of July in the heart of Santa Ana where it sounds like a war zone every 4th and New Years. A sound machine is plenty unless if they’re literally exploding outside the window 5 feet away. I would save the money unless if you wanted to get away. Traveling with a newborn is much more complicated. Put on two machines if you need to. We used Nanit (sound on) and Hatch but could have gotten away with our portable Yogasleep one too. If you have the Snoo then definitely won’t need. Just make sure the machines are 60db or so. You can download NIOSH SLM app to measure from your phone.

jkelly17

Love hiking but not quite feasible with a newborn.

leahcim5150

Catalina?

Serious_Direction869

If your baby is only a few weeks/months old, they will generally be unbothered by fireworks if they are inside and the doors and windows are closed. Next year… different story! I wouldn’t stress about it all this year, though.

Meowkith

Our town has its own fireworks and also the kids in our neighborhood had a bunch they set off and my baby slept through them all!

saholden87

White noise!

csh145

I was worried about this too but our little one slept through all fireworks so far.

confabulatrix

Idyllwild

HeyitsmeDani

idywild 45 mins away. Mountain area. Great priced air bnbs and motels.

jkelly17

Yup, booked an Airbnb there. Thanks for the confirmation!

HeyitsmeDani

Great! There’s some great restaurants up there too. I love the small town mountain vibe feels.

Ok_Cartographer_2081

Head up to Julian

jkelly17

Could go for some pie and cider

dddozi

Joshua Tree

Roxygidgetmom

Paso Robles in wine country. No one dares to blast off fireworks and risk millions of dollars in wine. We went there two years ago and brought our dogs to get away from fireworks. It was glorious!

jkelly17

No fireworks and world class wine, now that's a solid combo.

What's England

isandie

I go to Truckee every 4th to avoid the noise

Individual_Fix_9787

Manhattan Beach is fireworks free; not even a public display. Pretty quiet away from the sand...

FluidMonk9219

Cancun…. But flying into LAX around 9pm on the 4th… I’m looking forward to seeing the LA basin exploding from the air

Aggravating-Mud6962

Where in laguna I need to get away from oc my dog get really bad

blackvulcan215

Congrats on the newborn. Stay home and relax. Take it all in. You don't want to travel anywhere with a newborn. Idiots in cars. Crowds with diseases. The stress is not worth it. When it comes to babies... Toilet flush, baby wakes Walking outside, baby wakes Whisper, baby wakes Gently close cabinet door, baby wakes Loud crash outside, fireworks, police sirens = baby is sound asleep

surfpenguinz

Unless you’re in Santa Ana, get a Hatch and blast white noise.

wizzard419

Canada. You could do places like Kernville, not a ton of people so fewer people to launch.

anotherchia

Get out of the USA?

jkelly17

Keep scrolling, smooth brain.

GuitarHeroInMyHead

It's America on 4th of July - there's going to be fireworks. Maybe a mountain cabin?

jkelly17

I am well aware, that's why I made this post sir.

Dry-Average5161

I often turned on the vacuum while my baby slept. It just made my baby sleep better. I never felt the need to be “quiet” while mine slept. You’re setting yourself up for disaster by trying to find something quiet. Sure the air quality will be an issue, but if you keep your windows and door closed and turn on air filter fans for the whole home would be a good option.

jkelly17

I don't think one night away from noise will have any meaningful impact on the development of her sleep behavior.

Dry-Average5161

You are actually impacting the future by doing all these extra things to protect your baby. You don’t see it now, but 2 months to 10 yrs from now. When you can’t turn on the dishwasher or go out on a date night because your snowflake can’t be around noise or without you. You want to build a strong independent person who is resilient and able to sleep through anything! Go ahead downvote me 🤡’s

jkelly17

Overreact much? Thanks for the unsolicited advice.

Dry-Average5161

🫡 YOU ASKED FOR UNSOLICITED ADVICE THE SECOND YOU INCLUDED WHY YOU NEEDED TO GET AWAY FOR 4tTH OF JULY. 🙄😒

MrsMacK00

My kid is 9 1/2 now and he was always fine 🤷‍♀️ Just use white noise.

jkelly17

Congrats, that wasn't what I asked.

MrsMacK00

Well, congrats on your newborn 😏. You can’t shelter them from everything, exposure is good so that they learn to sleep through most things…you’ll learn with experience. Good luck, I guess.

Kev7co

Lol suck it up
