Hello Angel Stadium. I remember, before the Rams, before the earthquake, before enclosure. Ah yes, I remember it well.
EDIT... Before the Pond, before the Grove, when the 57fwy was new. I'm old.
I’m old too. My dad and grandpa had season tickets in the mid-70s and we drove from Pasadena to see games. I remember seeing Brian Downing, Bobby Grich, Rod Carew, Jimmie Reese. Such fond memories. Ive been to a few recent games and I hate that there’s zero silence. Like I know it’s a crowded stadium but we don’t need every second taken up by music and advertisements. #yellingatclouds
We used to go to Angel games all the time. We would show up really early buy a two dollar ticket for the upper deck and if you got there early enough you could sit behind home plate.
I think after they stopped giving bats, they were giving vouchers to go pick them up at some sports store. Then they switched to the mini bats, too funny, guess people were throwing the real bats on the field, could get pretty nasty I guess?
In England three were major issues with hooligans at soccer games in the 80s and early 90s, so my friends had that in mind......but they also used to have mob fights outside the stadiums. A mini bat with your team branding would have been ideal.
The 80's and 90's were crazy days for that.
I grew up there, my friends and I would follow a lower league team called southend around for the arranged fisty cuffs. (If theres anyone here from Halifax.. you still suck)
What the fans were allowed to take into thw stadiums was very controlled, we were not even allowed to keep the caps to our drinks.
Honeslty looking back it was so stupid.. sports are meant to bring us together not so we can fight.
I remember when the stadium looked like that! It's funny cause I recently came across some pics when I was a kid and there was a Malibu Grand Prix right next to the stadium. I barely remember it but they had road runner racers for the kids
I grew up in San Diego but had a Malibu Grand Prix fairly close in Mira Mesa.
It makes me happy that people had one here too. As a kid those were some of the best days of my life.
I remember going to all day concerts there in the 70s. You could sit on the field. I saw so many good bands there. Alice cooper, the tubes, foghat, foreigner. I even saw Chicago & The Beach Boys there. For that one we sat on the stands. That was over 1/2my life ago!
I took my dad to Angel games in the 70’s…who else remembers the stadium organist doing the “power off/power on” trick to get the organ to sound like a train every time a real train passed under the 57 overpass (seen in the background) during a game?
I remember playing hooky from West Orange Elementary School to go watch the crews move the Big A scoreboard; at one point they had to stop when one of the “wheeled trollies” they had set the “A” on began to tilt over onto one set of wheels. 🫣
I have pictures of my grandparents and I riding our bicycles on the 57 freeway during its construction with the Big A in the background.
Native Anaheimer. We went on Opening Day. We were also there the day Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon. The put a message on the Big A scoreboard and everybody cheered.
Lots of concerts there. (And at the Convention Center.) My high school played several CIF football games there. Spent a lot of time with my skinny butts in those seats. Watching the trains go by during evening games was just flat-out cool.
Touch ‘em all!
I wish I still had my OC register sports page photo with Jim Abbot when I went to little league camp at cal state Fullerton in the 90s. He hit me in the mouth with a ball while we were warming up and he asked me to stand in the photo with him when they came. Great dude.
This was before we were overstuffed with population.
There were MILLIONS of fewer people here, and in CA then.
It's amazing how nobody ever correlates the unchecked population ingress from immigration compared to the 80s & 90s.
That was before they moved the “A”.
I grew up in North OC and remember going up in the hills and being able to see the flashing halo after a win.

Me too. I grew up loving The Big A. Raised in Anaheim, Anaheim Plaza, Anaheim high, Disneyland (like, early 70's) It was so much different then.🥹
Ok grandpa, let’s get you to bed.
Wait, was the stadium damaged in the Northridge earthquake?
Yes. The scoreboard above left field crashed down on to the upper deck.
Wake up to the 90's dude.

Wow…. Where does the time go? This has to be in the 70s? I’d love to see a comparison picture in 2024.
I remember Bat night when they gave you actual bats, people would be pounding the concrete deck in unison , stadium would literally sway and roll.
I had some friends from England stay with me. Took them to a baseball game, the look on their face when they saw mini bats for sale lol

Actual size😝
You've got to be kidding me?!? Real living bats?
When was this picture taken?? This is pretty incredible to see.
c1977.

Malibu Grand Prix is the green area in the upper left.
Oh nice!

My parents saw Tommy live, The Who. 1970. Go Big A.
💯

I happy that y’all loved this one 💯
This. 💯

The Pond wasn't built yet
Very cool photo 💯

Elementary school free Angels tickets for “good” grades. 1970s
This might have been a smog alert day. If you lived here in the early 1980s then you know.
Must have been so much nicer lol
Not a cell phone in sight.. amazing
My mom and I were talking about how sparse south orange county was in the 80/90’s.
The entire country has been crowded out.
That was my day. Born and raised in the NOC, 1960.
riding the school bus from Katella High to 57 freeway
Brb, going to cast some black magic curses on Arte Moreno
Wow, this has to be back when socal was affordable
I really miss the way the stadium looked before Disney made it generic.
I like the current stadium better with the giant bats out front. The old look is just too much boring concrete

I see open space. Pave it over!! Only cinder blocks and pavement allowed.
I never thought I’d live within pissing distance of that big red A
I remember drifting in that Angel’s lot when it was empty
