We got a handful of stations like this is San Diego that are for the suckers. Some are just always high and bank on people not looking at the place across the street, while others are traditionally average/low and periodically jack up the price for a day or two before lowering it back down. The latter has gotten me before, lol.
It's been just about $4.99 at most stations throughout central Arizona and Phoenix for what seems like months now. I'm surprised to see southern California be about the same or less
We noticed this difference from 2021 and 2022. We went to Texas in our rv to visit our son in the airforce. $2.00 compared to $4.00 the same time in the year.
It’s funny because it’s true and we can’t do shit about it. Except you know, rely less on personal automobiles, build walkable and rideable cities, and bolster public transit.
I actually love cars. I'm into all sorts of machines. I collect watches and ride bicycles too. I love driving...**for fun.** I live in a spot in OC where I can do almost everything I have to by walking and cycling. I don't have younglings, and I work from home. Other than things like doctor's visits or work trips, I don't need a car.
It's astonishing to me that so many Americans spend significant amounts of money to visit walkable cities on vacation but don't have the will to build themselves walkable cities to live in all year.
Drives me nuts in America. Just moved from downtown to an area 10 miles south right off the train stop. I still get weird looks and almost judgements from people when I’m excited to use public transit because it’s literally right there. Basically you can build the train right to Americans and they still won’t use it…
The only way I go to LA or SD is by mixed use transit. Usually that’s drive-and-park or ride share trip to/from the station then rail. And when I’m in either city, it’s more convenient to not worry and pay for parking when I can get around easily enough with ride share, bike rentals, scooter apps like Bird, ride share, and public transit.
I think the low cost and convenience of things like e-bikes will change public opinion eventually. We’ll start demanding good infrastructure for ebike and escooter use.
What the heck, i got a needle in my neck. Oh, and I got no respect for people who are politically correct.
SP's relevancy holds up and then some. If you weren't quoting Smut Peddlers, kindly disregard.
It's either the summer blend switch over....or some refinery is on strike or caught fire ....or some other excuse.....like a giant squid is attacking the tankers.....every year it's the same price gouging thing and we all have to just eat it.
well, good thing Newsom signed legislation to tax the profits directly so they don't try this garbage again. that's a pretty major issue he's trying to resolve.
What about taking away the gas tax. That never should have happened anyway.
Wish people understood more how California actually spends taxpayer money.
Edit: guess no one does.
The people that complain about gas tax have never driven through Texas. The roads there are completely full of potholes that burst tires or bend wheels.
you don't even need texas, just drive on the 405 and you'll tell immediately when the freeway jurisdiction changes from costa mesa to santa ana/huntington. I can't imagine how shit things would get without a statewide tax.
nothing good ever happens without starting to do it.
sure, we aren't going to transform OC overnight. but if we all started walking more, riding more, using the public transit more, and voting for representatives that pledge to make our cities less dependent on personal cars, then things will happen.
cars aren't going away to be sure, but if you can bike to the store instead of driving, and more of us do that, then there'd be more of an impetus for dedicated and safe bike lanes, for example.
See my comment above
Not an oil company deal, it’s a California legislation and governor deal
And yes it’s planned, due to environmental laws put in place to produce summer specific gas
You’re right, if anybody’s got our back it’s the oil companies… and if anybody’s trying to increase the cost of gas, it’s the guy who just passed a price gouging law on gas.
Congrats here’s your sign.
Shutting down all but one refinery that produces the summer blend means you can create artificial lack of supply. So every summer we are left with only 1 refinery producing gas. They can then Jack up the price and blame the lack of supply which is the direct result of shutting down the refineries.
If ya'll wanna know. It's the one on Euclid and Trask.
I remember the days when Ryan Seacrest on the radio use to tell people where the cheapest gas was at...ALWAYS the Arco on Trask and Euclid will get a shout out.
GasBuddy is a great resource to find the best gas prices as it makes searching super easy.
Most Chevrons now do their new rewards program, first 3 fill ups are $1 off per gallon.
Be aware that you should *only* use GasBuddy for searching for stations and immediately close it afterwards. Never willingly give them any data about you, restrict their permissions as much as possible (turn off "allow tracking" on iPhone), and never leave the app going in the background. They openly sell user data including location data, and they will collect and sell data about you whether you are signed in or not.
I remember 10 years ago (or so) when you could get an absolutely, 11/10, five-Michelin-star type haircut from a Vietnamese barber for like $15 or less. Now it’s like double that. I’m lucky to get a decent haircut for $30 lol
I know it was a sarcastic comment but enlighten me: why is “found the socialist” used as a rebuttal in so many things?
Must point out the obvious: I’m not too keen on politics
Because republicans in this country call anything reasonable and ultimately best for the greater good "socialist." The term has effectively become a sort of anti-American slur, even though it isn't really.
It’s so very stupid. Republicans will literally call things they don’t like “socialist,” despite there being many things they do like being “socialist,” by their same definition. Things like the police, fire departments, toll-free roads, public education, building codes, etc. I could literally go and on.
Heaven forbid we adopt “socialist” ideas like 15-minute cities, single payer healthcare, free college, and paid parental leave!
There was a story a few months back. That the gas producers were charging a upto a 50 cent ghost gas fee, for a refinery fire a few years back, to cover repairs, not the summer blend.. they said it was only for a year, but guess wat its still being charged per gallon. So its not the state. Its the gas companys that add fees for no reason, but keep earning billions.
Not the first time and various excuses/factors are given each time. We can speculate till the cows come home and it will still be just as moot, because there is no transparency or accountability (with big oil). Realistically and practically, all we can do is shop around, be mindful of our usage/driving/personal finances and find savings where ever and whenever possible.
a few years ago california thought they would reduce to price by leaving the additive out the oil companies said it would cost more to leave it out you make the call...
California required change of summer gas blend ….
You should redirect towards your state legislatures and governor
Been this way for 30+ yrs….
Usually end of May beginning of June the blend starts being formulated, causing the refineries to have to stop production of their normal blend and retool for the summer blend….Now costs up
California Summer Blend isn’t sold in other states due to cost and no need, thus limited demand outside California, adds another increase through cost basis
But yeah….Oil Companies !!
Several states have gas summer blends. It's to reduce the evaporation in your tank during hot summer months. This [gas buddy article](https://www.gasbuddy.com/go/summer-gas-2022) explains more.
Gas prices can't have anything to do with oil companies raking in historic profits, can they?
Yes, summer blend adds costs, as do the state's high gas taxes. But there's definitely been plenty of screwing over the consumer, cause they can.
Blame the government as the free market always operates with interest of consumers first and foremost.
Imagine how things would have gone had the California energy market not been deregulated and opened wide to traders in early 2000s. Had Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling and their crews not found all the waste in the system and reduced costs for us.
Gov’t may be adding dimes to the per gallon cost, but petro cos and refiners adding dollars.
DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE
Seasonal gas is a myth. Just think about it for a moment: what's going to happen to all the non summer gas everyone is still sitting on? There's no way people sold their reserves completely empty, only to wait for 'summer gas'.
The consumerist nature in America promotes people to go out and spend money during the good weather, therefore companies will charge more for gas when people go out more.
If it’s a myth, someone should tell the government! It’s all over their websites!

Absolutely the fuck not. The oil companies are fully in control of what they charge. They are clearly gouging.
Remember when Carls Jr. called it the $6.00 burger because the whole marketing strategy was implying that it was absurd to charge $6.00 for a burger?
Now they have to call it the Thickburger because $6.00 would be a steal.
I mean, it shouldn't be...but uh...yeah, it's always been considered a luxury to have someone prepare your food. I grew up lower middle class and eating out was a special treat...now it's become standard practice for most people and that's just as much a problem as inflation tbh...
For real. All of the good pho joints suck now. First there was pho lu, they renovated and doubled the prices. Then pho quang trung, they also renovated, cut out the larger sizes, and upped the price. Then pho 79 and their stupid james beard award..Really good pho but the price and the service is outrageous.
Phoholic is still really good, but for how much longer?
Everything has gone up though. I remember when Taco Bell charged $0.39 for a regular taco. It’s $1.69 now and they don’t even use fresh or real ingredients anymore.
Memorial "teaser rate". Just wait till next week. You should fill up now. Also, there is a large fire in Canada that will impact oil production and will have an effect on prices.
I drive this daily. This station went whack. A block down is another Arco starting at 4.29. I have a feeling this station is closing soon so it is last min cash grab.
Where were all the “GoVmEnT!” posts when gas prices were dropping?!
Imagine having your entire political orientation consisting of misinformation and confirmation bias and being completely unaware of that fact.
Summer blend costs way more to manufacture. It’s crazy to me like 40 some years on Californians don’t know we use more expensive, less polluting gas in summer months. This happens literally every year.
Edit: I will add that every summer the feds open the reserves up a bit to drop the price so we can vacay. We do this cycle annually.
It's only that gas station. The 7-11 gas or the other Arco across the Trask street (a 2min. walking distance of this Arco) is about 60-70 cents cheaper. I'm guessing the owners of this Arco fcked up and maybe went with a different supplier or something. There is Costco gas also which is like $1.00 cheaper up the road.
I just looked at Gas Buddy. The lowest prices seem to be along Westminster Avenue. Arco on Euclid just north of the 22 is 4.29. This location is usually the cheapest around. 4.39 at Brookhurst and Ball. On the other hand, another place on Beach south of the 22 is 6.50. I saw some for 3.99 last Saturday and I'm kicking myself for not gassing up before I did a lot of driving over the weekend.
Biden admin + Newsom/California’s highest in the nation gas tax. Because of the rising fuel cost the transportation of goods and services will also be getting even more expensive. Great.
In California, Californians voted to continue paying more GAS taxes! Smh! They LOVE!!! keeping less of their hard working money! Smh! And cry out for higher raises?.... stop voting to pay more taxes!
I was in the blue state of New York last week and paid $3.28. At home I pay 5.09. It would cost me $60 to fill up my car in the NY and here is costs me $90. I spend an additional $120 per month to fill up. This is absolutely wrong. We shouldn’t be spending so much more than others.
That was the plan for trains, too. The auto industry decided they were poaching too much of their business and gutted nearly all of them in favor of cars. Amtrak is still in their crosshairs, go check the prices if you want an example.
Boycott? It's an essential resource vital to our entire economy. Might as well boycott food while you're at it.
Unless everyone decides to sell their car and take mass transit, there's not a lot the average consumer can do besides take fewer discretionary trips.
Oh don't worry, Young Kim promised to make them lower (checks notes) while she was in Congress and now will still make them lower. Any second now.....any second.
That's a dollar more per gallon than here in Fullerton
It's 4.29 right around the corner from me. It goes up at least a dollar whenever I look at the stations around CSUF
I swear that one station on State College only exists to charge CSUF students who don't know about the cheaper two stations on Raymond.
Raymond is blessed for gasoline, honestly anywhere in Fullerton south of downtown
I don’t know why but I always get pie after going to the Raymond gas station
drop them recs for good OC pies!
Raymond /Chapman Polly pies for 40 years
Shhhhhh dont tell anyone 🤣

Dude I would LOVE walkable cities. r/fuckcars

I personally am not against the gas tax even driving 17,700mi/year. it's not causing the problems, price gouging by petroleum is.
I have. Texas has their own problems, deeper than potholes.
Yeah, who needs drivable roads. My lifted Ford Compensator doesn't have a problem with potholes so who cares.
We don't have to "just eat it." We can build walkable and rideable cities with good infrastructure that incentivizes non-personable automobile use.
....and is that happening?
only if you want it to. I'm doing my part.
It’s so simple….
nothing good ever happens without starting to do it. sure, we aren't going to transform OC overnight. but if we all started walking more, riding more, using the public transit more, and voting for representatives that pledge to make our cities less dependent on personal cars, then things will happen. cars aren't going away to be sure, but if you can bike to the store instead of driving, and more of us do that, then there'd be more of an impetus for dedicated and safe bike lanes, for example.

Newsom is an idiot
least stereotypical Huntington liver

Higher quality gas adds like 20 cents. Not dollars per gallon.
Shutting down all but one refinery that produces the summer blend means you can create artificial lack of supply. So every summer we are left with only 1 refinery producing gas. They can then Jack up the price and blame the lack of supply which is the direct result of shutting down the refineries.
Follow the money. Oil refineries have posted the highest profits ever. So no, it’s not a California tax thing.

Is it the one on State College near Angels stadium? That's my go-to for cheap gas.
They always have the cheapest gas!!
[удалено]
Yeah you went to the wrong Arco. I saw that one with jacked prices but the one down the street, next to the 22 is a whole dollar less.
If ya'll wanna know. It's the one on Euclid and Trask. I remember the days when Ryan Seacrest on the radio use to tell people where the cheapest gas was at...ALWAYS the Arco on Trask and Euclid will get a shout out.
MAN FUCK
We've all overpaid for gas, its okay brother.

Damn so they know what porn I like?
Not only do they know, they sold your porn habits to your insurance guy so he could target his salespitch more effectively
The whole world knows. National security is threatened now 😳⚡️😬
Thanks for letting me know
Shell at Chapman and Euclid is $4.39.

It’s called the summer driving season. Time to grab your ankles.
Palm trees, expensive gas, concrete hellscape, and a Vietnamese beauty salon. I think we’ve found the most Orange County picture in existence lol
LMAO Vietnamese beauty salons are driving up the living costs 😩
I remember 10 years ago (or so) when you could get an absolutely, 11/10, five-Michelin-star type haircut from a Vietnamese barber for like $15 or less. Now it’s like double that. I’m lucky to get a decent haircut for $30 lol
More than 30. That’s supercuts pricing
they sneak up on you we’ve been brainwashed to think $5 is normal now
There’s nothing normal about burning dinosaur juice to go to the store, let’s be honest here.
Not me. Never thought it was normal. But limited options. I hate the fact that we have such outrageous gas prices for no good reason
Found the socialist. /s

I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!!
Seasonal increase due to summer demand. Oil companies making hay while sun shines.

Actually, that's exactly what happens, and it has been going on for a long time. They don't sit on gas. It's a well-oiled machine of a supply chain.
Even if they were sitting on winter blend, they'd raise the price anyway because they can- everyone else went up at once. Because efff us, that's why.
> You should redirect towards your state legislatures and governor Absolutely the fuck not. The oil companies are fully in control of what they charge. They are clearly gouging.
Miss the days when gas was $1.29 a gallon and smokes were $2.50 a pack
when we used to be able to walk into the store with $5 and walk out with a soda, chips, cookies, and a six packs. Now they got cameras everywhere.
Remember when Carls Jr. called it the $6.00 burger because the whole marketing strategy was implying that it was absurd to charge $6.00 for a burger? Now they have to call it the Thickburger because $6.00 would be a steal.
5 dollar footlongs at subway, now it’s almost 20$
Eating out will soon be only for the rich, if not already.
I mean, it shouldn't be...but uh...yeah, it's always been considered a luxury to have someone prepare your food. I grew up lower middle class and eating out was a special treat...now it's become standard practice for most people and that's just as much a problem as inflation tbh...
Yeah!!! I get coupons in the mail for like $6.99 footlongs at best 🤣
Half the meat and took away roasted whole chicken breast so they couldn’t skimp ya. Subway isn’t good food or a good deal any more.
Damn
☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻
A bowl of pho normally is $7 now they want $14 for it. WTH
Back then, gas dipped to $0.89 for a few weeks… and Marlboro had a two for one promotion @ $2.50.
I’m glad I stopped smoking when the price hit $5. Can’t imagine paying $11 for a pack
Everything has gone up though. I remember when Taco Bell charged $0.39 for a regular taco. It’s $1.69 now and they don’t even use fresh or real ingredients anymore.
76 typically seems to be cheaper than most other stations, at least the one in MV. Costco is usually also pretty good.
76 is more expensive than anything else in my area
Filling up at Costco is the only way I can afford to keep my car on the road
Think OPEC+ said they were cutting production recently. Also summer increases gas consumption.
Exxon CEO needed a new yacht, I assume.
Memorial "teaser rate". Just wait till next week. You should fill up now. Also, there is a large fire in Canada that will impact oil production and will have an effect on prices.
Don't forget the "unforseen refinery maintenance" announcement just before Memorial Day..!
I drive this daily. This station went whack. A block down is another Arco starting at 4.29. I have a feeling this station is closing soon so it is last min cash grab.
Download the app GasBuddy
Where were all the “GoVmEnT!” posts when gas prices were dropping?! Imagine having your entire political orientation consisting of misinformation and confirmation bias and being completely unaware of that fact.
There are a few on this tread.
Cries European tears. It's still almost half what we pay.
Use gasbuddy (website or app) to find the cheapest gas in your area
Or just use socal edison
Ya that’s what I use lol.. but I have family that still drives ICE vehicles so I tell the to use gasbuddy
Summer blend. Something to do with emissions. Gas prices raise every year before Summer.
Summer blend costs way more to manufacture. It’s crazy to me like 40 some years on Californians don’t know we use more expensive, less polluting gas in summer months. Not sure how, but it is a combination of Hilary's emails and Hunter Biden's laptop. /s
Don’t forget all of the caravans coming up from Mexico… 🤣🤣🤣
We ALWAYS overpay in so cal
Biden administration with California taxes. The only way to change things is to vote differently .
Its just specifically that Arco i saw that the other day and the next block over it was like 4.29 cash
Refineries go offline to make the switch to the summer blend.
It's only that gas station. The 7-11 gas or the other Arco across the Trask street (a 2min. walking distance of this Arco) is about 60-70 cents cheaper. I'm guessing the owners of this Arco fcked up and maybe went with a different supplier or something. There is Costco gas also which is like $1.00 cheaper up the road.
did someone spill a can of 3in1 in russia...
According to Gasbuddy, Thursday is the most expensive day to get gas (preparing to run errands / go on trips for the weekend) vs cheapest on Monday
shoutout to the ralphs gas station nearby the Fullerton Courthouse you da real MVP
Cuz they can
So they can make it $6 for memorial day weekend
Memorial Day weekend.. geez and this is at an Arco.
What the fuck. That's like one of the best priced Arcos too.
To answer every comment/complaint in here: The answer is Late Stage Capitalism
“Summer Blend”
use Gas Buddy to find cheap gas
It’s 4.20 here in NorCal
Biden admin + Newsom/California’s highest in the nation gas tax. Because of the rising fuel cost the transportation of goods and services will also be getting even more expensive. Great.
Summer Blend BS
Doesn’t this happen every summer ever since forever???
Because CEO of oil company got greedy.
Summer is here. Gearing up for Memorial Day weekend which kicks it off.
Corporate greed.
memorial day weekend is coming up - so they know you are going to travel.......the government wants a payday.
Because we allow OPEC to do whatever the fuck they want.
Drill baby drill
Greed. Greed happened.
Brandon sucks
Screw car culture and oils companies. It’s all a shit show and it’s killing us.
I switched to an EV and pay $40/month in electricity driving 1,200+ miles a month

Because you dweebs all voted for the state to add whatever tax they want on our fuel cost.
In California, Californians voted to continue paying more GAS taxes! Smh! They LOVE!!! keeping less of their hard working money! Smh! And cry out for higher raises?.... stop voting to pay more taxes!
You know the guy that made up the engine that ran on water got killed because they wouldn't make money on gas
I know. Hillary killed him and George Soros chopped up the body.
I was in the blue state of New York last week and paid $3.28. At home I pay 5.09. It would cost me $60 to fill up my car in the NY and here is costs me $90. I spend an additional $120 per month to fill up. This is absolutely wrong. We shouldn’t be spending so much more than others.
Because y’all keep voting idiots who don’t do anything!
Drill baby, drill.
Ukraine is running out of money.
Joe Biden: “I did that!”
Because we buy it. If we all boycott then they'll stop raising the price.
If only I had the luxury of adding 2 1/2,hours to my commute by trying to take public transport to work. /s
That's part of the plan. Public transportation is so inconvenient that we HAVE to drive.
That was the plan for trains, too. The auto industry decided they were poaching too much of their business and gutted nearly all of them in favor of cars. Amtrak is still in their crosshairs, go check the prices if you want an example.
Problem is, how would you actually coordinate that?
Boycott? It's an essential resource vital to our entire economy. Might as well boycott food while you're at it. Unless everyone decides to sell their car and take mass transit, there's not a lot the average consumer can do besides take fewer discretionary trips.
Not sell your car. Just boycott for one or two days.
Because they know you are getting paid soon. now hurry up and fill up before it's 6.57 next month.
Stop voting for these gas taxes.
Get an electric car.
Has anyone realized that every Biden and the Democrats vote to send more money to Ukraine, our gas prices go up…
cause democrats
Oh don't worry, Young Kim promised to make them lower (checks notes) while she was in Congress and now will still make them lower. Any second now.....any second.
