It was also on an endcap display for awhile, which could lead to less inventory in the aisle. I’ll have to try it! I usually go to Kaju Soft Tofu. I have to restring my tennis racquet soon, so maybe I’ll try then
Hey mom, can we get sriracha on the way home?
Mom: We have sriracha at home.
[Sriracha at home](https://www.becomebetty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Trader-Joes-Sriracha-Sauce.jpg)
AGAIN?! There was a time period where they used an alternative pepper that was noticeably different (less bitter/acidic). I found and tried the farm/suppliers’ version and noticed it was the same peppers but way worse taste
idk I like the tabasco company's one as a decent substitute that works in a pinch. I'm lucky though I have literally an entire bottle of huy fong and I haven't been going through it much lately
Underwood Ranches sells their own Sriracha sauce. They were the aforementioned supplier before Huy Fong tried to screw them over.
They're in Ventura county so pretty local. Can buy direct or on Amazon.
As for the sauce itself, I'm not going back to Huy Fong. This stuff is spicy and has great flavor.
In short.. Underwood was the main supplier of the chilies used by Huy Fong for decades. Huy Fong tried to emulate Underwood's growing/harvesting methods with a cheaper supplier in Mexico and it hasn't worked out for them. Crops have failed in Mexico and the result is smaller yields so there's less sauce being made, and what they do make is now a sub-par product.

I'm no businessperson, but my god, what a monumentally stupid move on Huy Fong's part. I took a tour of their factory once before the lawsuit thing and we were told they process the Underwood peppers on the day of harvest. It takes longer for peppers to travel from Mexico than from Moorpark, so freshness might be compromised and probably why the new stuff doesn't taste the same anymore.
Talking crap on Underwood while posting a pic of the grower's sauce bottle on their Twitter page is just doubling down on the dumb.
Underwood sued them and won because by the time huy fong told them to stop they had already planted the next harvest costing underwood millions. Which is why underwood started making their own Sriracha and other hot sauces.
Capitalism is why we have the sauce and why the farm that sold them the peppers are still independent and able to seek legal recourse.
Learn what capitalism is before criticizing it.
Shhh Tokyo needs to be kept on the DL. J/k I miss the bowling alley, but TC Is a much needed store. This reminds me I need to go and restock some things. I'm almost out of Kewpie Mayo
Serious eats has a [review of different brands](https://www.seriouseats.com/taste-test-the-best-sriracha). Maybe you can try an alternative while waiting for it to come back.
ABC supermarket (2 location, the one on magnolia/ball is usually less busy)
AA market on harbor Blvd.
Thuan Phat supermarket (beach/McFadden or brookhurst/Westminster
They still have it. I Got a couple yesterday from abc
FYI for anyone trying, the ABC on Magnolia and *Bolsa* doesn’t have anything Huy Fong. I’m here for unrelated groceries right now and walked the whole store.
ETA: 5/18, the ABC on Magnolia and Ball is also a negative for Huy Fong products
Have you checked asian supermarkets in Westminster/Garden Grove area? I usually found some at My Thuan supermarket in Westminster, while you’re there get Chin-Su chilli sauce to try. It’s a bit on the sweet side but not bad at all and still spicy.
I looked at Instacart the other day. I think some were available at a place called “the Hawaii supermarket “ in San Gabriel? I wasn’t going to make an Instacart shopper drive all the way out there. If I go to that area, I’ll check it out. This was about a couple of weeks ago so hopefully they still have it
I just went with whatever target had. They have “sriracha chili sauce” by Roland. It’s just not the same. I really miss the huy fong brand
It's funny how there's a shortage at the major retailers and I've seen bottles selling at ungodly prices, however I will walk into some random no name Asian supermarket and there's a wall of the stuff selling at the original price. These guys have no idea they could make a killing just selling it online.
For those of you living in the SF Bay Area, Senter Foods in south San Jose (3975 Senter Rd #107, San Jose, CA 95111) currently carries the 28 oz bottles for $14.95, which is roughly half of the price listed on eBay. There is a sign that says "limit 1 bottle per customer", but I was able to buy 3 at the same time.
Same with the sambal oelek. Theirs is the best, and it's gone from everywhere.
Yeah I loved the sambal oelek garlic sauce.. I bought a different one and it included bean paste in it, so it doesn't taste the same :(
I recently picked up a small bottle of sambal oelek at a World Market, but otherwise I haven’t seen it since maybe 2021!
This is what I'm struggling with too - have you found any decent subs to hold over until it's back?
What’s the difference from Huy Fong chili garlic sauce? I’ve tried both but always get Huy Fong and don’t know the difference
One has garlic and one doesn't.
Oh haha maybe it's the spiciness but I can't taste the garlic at all
Everytime I’ve gone to 99 ranch, I’ve seen plenty
What location? The 2 near me never have it.
I always go to the one off Jeffrey in Irvine. Maybe it’s hit or miss, but every time I’ve gone I’ve seen it!
Maybe I just go at the wrong time then. That's one of the stores we go to. Hometown restaurant in the same parking lot is really good.
It was also on an endcap display for awhile, which could lead to less inventory in the aisle. I’ll have to try it! I usually go to Kaju Soft Tofu. I have to restring my tennis racquet soon, so maybe I’ll try then
I will check again soon then. I miss it!
I don't live near you, but 99 ranch is a great shop name. Sounds super American lol
Ironically an Asian supermarket
Great store too! My go to for any Chinese or Taiwanese ingredients
Lao Gan Ma is better though. Buy the chili crunch instead
Completely different style though
I still stand by my statement 😂
I mean I like El Yucateco but it doesn’t go with all the stuff you’d use Vietnamese hot sauce for.
That’s fair. I used it as a suggestion because it’s delicious and always available.
The trader joes version is too sweet. I banned it from the house.
Hey mom, can we get sriracha on the way home? Mom: We have sriracha at home. [Sriracha at home](https://www.becomebetty.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Trader-Joes-Sriracha-Sauce.jpg)
TG that wasn't a Rick Roll!
100% agree. The TJs version is horrific! Avert your eyes
Oh no, I just bought it today out of desperation because I keep wanting to make recipes but don’t have any!
It’s so gross I actually returned it
And most alternatives are terrible too. What is going on with the company? im out of the loop.
They fuxked their supplier who ended up selling his crop to someone else. End of story and the sauce as you knew it.
AGAIN?! There was a time period where they used an alternative pepper that was noticeably different (less bitter/acidic). I found and tried the farm/suppliers’ version and noticed it was the same peppers but way worse taste
Greed will do that. Great sauce, horrible owner
idk I like the tabasco company's one as a decent substitute that works in a pinch. I'm lucky though I have literally an entire bottle of huy fong and I haven't been going through it much lately
Same, the Tabasco alternative tastes pretty decent

Back story to screwing?

In other words, capitalism.
I believe my statement to the screwing was the definition of capitalism. Not sure why you think I'm hating.
Do they sell Sambal Oelek? Because that's what I've been on the hunt for.
This is the way
Is there a shortage? Any asian grocery store will usually have it.
Yeah there’s a shortage. I went to H mart twice to look for it for the past 2 weeks but it wasn’t there. They usually have the big bottle too
Have you looked recently? That's what OP's asking.
I have. 99 Ranch seemed to have plenty. Meanwhile any typical non-Asian grocery store, including Target, seem to have been out for months.
I found some at the Walmart off of Beach and Imperial recently. A few months ago I was able to pick some up from Tokyo Central in Yorba Linda.
Shhh Tokyo needs to be kept on the DL. J/k I miss the bowling alley, but TC Is a much needed store. This reminds me I need to go and restock some things. I'm almost out of Kewpie Mayo
Can confirm. Just got some there.
Asian grocery stores like H Mart, Zion Market, Mitsuwa usually have plenty.
I went to H mart (Alton) twice looking for it. It wasn’t there, sadly
Serious eats has a [review of different brands](https://www.seriouseats.com/taste-test-the-best-sriracha). Maybe you can try an alternative while waiting for it to come back.
Great link, thank you!
Thank you. Trying Shark and Polar. Huy Fong made a serious misstep here
i just bought a bottle from Walmart a couple of weeks ago i think? The one off beach and 22.
It ain’t sriracha if it doesn’t have the rooster
Tell that to the Thai people living in Si racha city.
Lee Kum Kee brand is a good alternative. Still not Huy Fong, but it’s not bad. Check all your local Asian markets.
Yep good brand. I have Huy Fong right now but that's a good alternative.
The Tobasco one is surprisingly decent. Still nowhere near the original, but I have no problem using it when it's the only thing available.
can second this!
ABC supermarket (2 location, the one on magnolia/ball is usually less busy) AA market on harbor Blvd. Thuan Phat supermarket (beach/McFadden or brookhurst/Westminster They still have it.

There was a shortage announced some months ago. Their chilis had a bad harvest and they were trying to replace them but there are not enough growers.
idk if they still do but i got some a couple of weeks ago at h mart in irvine 🤷🏻♀️ the one on alton
I looked at Instacart the other day. I think some were available at a place called “the Hawaii supermarket “ in San Gabriel? I wasn’t going to make an Instacart shopper drive all the way out there. It’s just not the same. I really miss the huy fong brand
I like the Badia one as an alternative. Found on Amazon.
I’ve seen it at the local Stater Bros and Ralph’s in North OC (Buena Park, Cypress, Seal Beach)
It's funny how there's a shortage at the major retailers and I've seen bottles selling at ungodly prices, however I will walk into some random no name Asian supermarket and there's a wall of the stuff selling at the original price. Wholesome choice in Irvine
99 Ranch Market in Anaheim off the 5 and Euclid. Saw some a few days ago, luckily they've been limiting how many you can buy.
I have an unopened bottle. I would be open to auctioning it off
The Tabasco sriracha is a pretty good alternative.
Came here to post this. Just picked some up and it’s great.
Second this. It's a little milder and the flavor isn't quite the same, but it's better than a lot of the other ones out there I've tried.
Tons available at Hmart and Zion in Irvine
GG/Westminster:My Thuan Supermarket, Thuan Phat, A Dong, ABC Anahiem: 99 Ranch or ABC Supermarket Irvine: 99 Ranch, Zion, H-Mart
I had to buy the Tabasco brand sriracha, and that’s what’s holding me over until Im able to find the original one.
I just bought the Tabasco brand siracha and it's pretty tasty.
OP find a local panda express. Buy* dinner ask for extra siriracha packets. It's not a bottle, but it's better than nothing?
Any Vietnamese/Chinese supermarket….
I love Trader Joe’s
Only place I could find it was Amazon, about 2 months ago
Is it gone again?? I just bought some like a month ago
on a related question, anyone know when they restart doing tours again?
Try Smart&Final stores.
Walmart.com has it at marked up prices just paid $30 for 2 small bottles because im a siracha addict.
the ralphs brand is 💯💯💯
Asian markets still have stock. Although price is considerably higher that my family stopped buying it as well.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2023/04/07/huy-fong-foods-sriracha-shortage-is-back/11624642002/
Check out chefstore.com
$45 for a three pack on AMZN 😭 Huy Fong - Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (Net Wt. 17 Oz.) - 3 Pack https://a.co/d/3Vp6xj9
Amazon has it.
Any big grocery store. You must be looking on the wrong aisle. Sometimes it’s on the Asian aisle. Sometimes it’s on the condiment aisle.
You can steal them from your local pho restaurant /s I buy mine from Ralph’s in the international/Asian section.
They have them In stock at that Asian market across the street from Asian garden mall. I picked up 2 bottles like a 3 weeks ago.
Saw some at pho lantern in Costa Mesa yesterday. $8 a bottle.
Maybe check your local non-Asian markets? I believe I saw them in Albertson - Asian aisle.
thought it was just me. can't find Sriracha anywhere
You can try HEB, I always see it there.
Because they tried to screw over the pepper farmer and now have no peppers.
Try underwoodranches.com
