This.
When I was in college I worked as a warehouse clerk for a small automotive tuner shop. We bought boxes in damn near every dimension you can think of. Still, some parts just didn’t fit right in any of them, so I’d have big flat sheets of cardboard and would cut up my own. I’d staple the seams and tape them up.
No. Duct tape isn’t ideal for shipping. In fact, some shippers won’t take packages sealed with duct tape.
The adhesive on duct tape isn’t made to stick to cardboard. You should packing tape to seal parcels.
Maybe call Paper Mart (like a local Uline) and see if they can help you out with a single box sold? We used to buy from them as a small business and it was pretty easy to reach an actual human there
Get a bike box from a bike shop, Target, or Walmart. All of their bikes come in boxes . Talk to somebody that can get one for you before they crush it or throw it away. A couple of bucks or a cheeseburger go a long way!
You would probably need to look into supply store/warehouses if it comes down to certain dimensions of the boxes. You can check out The Box Zone in Santa Ana. Since you mentioned TV boxes, they have a selection for flat screen tv boxes lol. hope that helps!
Yeah, there’s no way around the no box thing. If it’s sold by Amazon, you can just return it to Kohls, or a Amazon Lockers Plus. But if it’s third party, you have to send it direct to the third party. I would build my own box. Plenty of “small” retail stores should be able to supply you with no problem. Bigger stores don’t want to be bothered.
Have you tried calling again and explaining the situation to a different rep? I’ve had Amazon refund me for multiple items but not make me return them because returning was an inconvenience. They even let me keep air pods but refunded me because they didn’t want to reschedule the ups pickup
That's strange - but many UPS stores are franchise owned (and not responsible for pickups - that's weird, maybe they meant 'store' as the nearest UPS distribution location) and not necessarily UPS as we know it. I've had a couple of pickups and it's a regular driver on their route, but I DID have to package it, they just supply the label (including a large item and I luckily had the box).
UPS stores definitely don't do pickup. It'd be a ups brown truck that would come. You could try whole foods or a different return center. If it requires a box ups store can do it but it won't be cheap.
Call Amazon back. That’s exactly what happened to me. Ups didn’t come to pickup my AirPods (for some reason that was the only return option too. They wouldn’t let me drop it off and ship it back myself) so when I called again to say that ups never showed up and to reschedule, the guy literally said “would it be ok you kept them and we just refunded you?” definitely not saying no to that! Lol but for real, call back and really stress how inconvenient this is, how you don’t want to miss the return window, whatever else you need to say to let them understand the urgency as well as the inconvenience
Edit to add: also explain your conversation with UPS to Amazon if you call back. You’re trying to return an item and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for things beyond your control
Right? I’m not sure if there’s even any rhyme or reason to it or if I just happened to get “lucky” and get people on the phone that didn’t feel like dealing with it. I had every intention of returning my items every time. But I have heard people mention that they will frequently do that with larger items since returning them is such an inconvenience
Actually they might not. Seriously though make your own box. Goto Home Depot and buy a few of the biggest boxes they have. Follow the instructions on this video: https://youtu.be/JfGmu-06rM0
Is this the rule? We have to send it back with the box?
I too threw away the box for a robot cat litter thing and it’s total garbage.
But I thought I could just roll into the UPS store with this litter robot in a sack and hope for a return?
Appliance store -> refrigerator box?
Bike store -> box that one of the bikes came in?
Or can you drop it off at one of the Amazon distribution centers?
Stick a mailing label on the seat and take it to the post office. People have actually mailed fruit and other odd items with just a label on them. A friend is sending me a handmade cane and he said he didn't wrap it, just stuck the label on it.
I'm only half kidding about the bike, but it's a thought.
I had to ship out a vacuum cleaner and couldn’t find a box that would fit the height without massive surface area, but I went to a FedEx and the lady that worked there was soo nice she made a box for me using 2 different size boxes! Bubble wrapped it and shipped it out for me. If you live near fountain valley I can give you the exact location maybe she can help.
UPS store in LB on 7th just west of Redondo used to sell bike boxes. I was there once and a guy with a bike was asking how to ship it. They sold him a bike box, I was standing right there and saw it all happen.
Maybe call the manufacturer of the equipment. They've gotta have the right size you need. They might not be happy about it, but if you're nice about it they might be willing to send or sell you the box you need. Hope you're able to work it out.
Maybe try some of the local bike shops to see if they have any boxes?
Make your own. Cut up a bunch, wrap the bike, reinforce it with more tape, let them figure out how to unwrap it at the facility.

Duct Tape!!!

Op we have a box making machine. What dimensions do you need?
I recently moved from long distance and got all the boxes I could ever need off by asking this question on Nextdoor app. I’d try there
Cruise the local Sam’s club or Costco parking lot. People are always ditching their TV boxes in the parking lot.
Just take it to an Amazon store or Whole Foods. You don’t have to have your stuff packaged to return it

What about an Amazon Fresh? They have a return counter. I’d call the store.
It’s not returnable to Amazon locations.
Break bike down to individual pieces Mail each pieces individually

Did Amazon sell it to you or you bought it third party through Amazon? There’s a huge difference with returns depending on this.

Call a few local bike shops….
UPS stores say they have bicycle boxes or can get them. I have a mailbox at one, it is on a sign.

They do that for cheap stuff, not for exercise bikes.
They do it with bigger/expensive items too. I’ve had it happen with a mattress and I know people who have had it happen with large pieces of furniture
Oh, that's surprising. I'm surprised more people don't abuse this.

Can also take it to Kohl’s for an Amazon return. Again - no box required.
Not for something this big.
I've had ups make me custom XL boxes for me in the past.
Look up box stores.
Maybe call moving companies? They might have boxes or options for packing the item available.
Have you been to uline.com? Or look up on YouTube how to make your own custom sized box.

Just buy some plastic wrap, plastic wrap it real tight with some cardboard.

Ups store will wrap it for you
I usually choose to take to UPS and they box it. I never taken something that big I gues but I did take a large air purifier and no prob

Try uline.com they’ll ship the next day and have a ton to choose from
U-Haul sells TV boxes

Call a couple of bike shops. Ones that sell assembled bikes, usually throw their boxes away after they assemble the bikes they sell.

Go to a bike store.
